There is no point during the roll during which you are immune to damage.

It shrinks your hitbox a lot and moves you a bit, so it *is* useful for dodging most things, but thinking of it like an actual souls roll is just going to get people frustrated.
If thats the case, how are people avoiding damage when they roll through the spear animations that come in a wave (unavoidable without rolling) and not taking any damage? The Viper fight*.

Incorrect, you can actually dodge roll through traps in sanctum and take no honor damage

Traps have their own unique mechanics that prevent them from damaging you during the roll yes, otherwise sanctum wouldn't function.

Go try and roll through a degen puddle or mobs fire wall etc.

You are just splitting hairs then. On the bosses that do some big telegraphed attack with an explosion or some other thing you can dodgeroll through it and take no damage when timed correctly. It would kill you otherwise.

It does not fill me with confidence to have a disagreement about the nature of a core mechanic and no easy way to look up the information.

I think it can get you through some things (attacks) and not others (AE). That's the best I've got.

I love how all this discussion about survivability is taking place and talking about the dodge roll iframes being your best defense.

Guys, the dodge roll has no iframes. 0. It never has. It's just a slight burst of faster movement, nothing else. All the people talking about it making attacks 'miss' are saying that like it's got iframes and it just doesn't, the only thing it does is help you move out of the way a bit faster.

Stop treating it like the dark souls roll and you'll have a better time of things.
It most definitely seems to have iframes. I've rolled right through wide blasts/cones and not taken damage before. That said, puddles of stuff definitely seem to affect you rolling or not.

There's a few specific boss attacks that this works on, but it only makes the problem worse - it trains you to think the dodge roll is a proper defense mechanic, and then you go in to your yellow map and try and dodge roll away from a rare and just fucking explode instantly.

Maybe it's 100% miss chance so not a true iframe in that it won't stop degen and other guaranteed effects

Yea, I'm not quite sure what the rule is. Some things hit you if you roll, some things wont. I wish it were just consistent.

A couple leveling uniques and the earned previous knowledge of the first play through and my second run is twice as fast. May finish in ~12 hours without really speed running.

Game is going to get easier and easier to get to maps imo.

Map one death with white mobs 1 shotting and crappy on death effects will always suck though.

You know how a boss with flash red when something unblockable is coming in? I want my character to flash during the frames in which they are benefiting from whatever dodge roll does. At the moment I genuinely have no idea the properties it possesses nor the time window when they are in effect. All I know is if I do it too early my character slows down for the last third of the animation and I get hit 100%.

I just finished the Cruel campaign and started mapping.

Fortunately, loot and currency seem to be far more prevalent in maps.

Dodge roll and this games hitboxes and hit mechanics are just not implemented all that well. You can dodge completely out of the way of a charge on your screen but then get pushed back by the thing charging you AND still take no damage from it....

Its just not coded well, and in a game where its supposed to be your biggest defense mechanic thats no bueno.

I'm almost positive it does, otherwise the viper boss makes no sense. I'm not able to perfect dodge roll through that shit every time. I'm not that good.

I think it depends really on how long acts 4,5, and 6 end up being.

Right now you just get through the first 3 acts and then repeat them again, but on please I believe it's supposed to be a true new act 4, 5, and 6.

If I remember correctly, didn't poe1 start out with 3 acts that you had to do 3 times similar to Diablo, then they expanded it to a 4th, a 5th, and eventually 10 acts to make it to end game?

Fuck the trials in the asshole.

Failed 4 Ultimatums at room 7 due to fuckery normal rares.

Failed 2 Sanctums because 3rd floor is not doable by me.

Fuck them to hell. If theres one thing I do not like its the trial system.
