We get way more basic currency much earlier and vendors sell much better stuff in this game than in PoE1 so Im fine with not having alts. Its not like you can spam them during your campaign playthrough in PoE1. You don't get nearly enough. And essences aren't as good either, though those are rare in both games.

Any suggestions on addressing mana issues as Merc / Witch Hunter? Like, are there better pieces of gear to focus on either raw +mana or leach/per kill? I only have 300 and at 52 gas grenades and explosive grenades are like 34 - 36 mana a shot plus explosive shot. Really hampers my DPS and end up hitting the bottle nonstop it feels like.

You can get the mana per kill on a ring. But there are better stats. The best change you can get, imo, is to have the charges gained per second on your mana flask. That way you dont sacrifice defensives, which you're going to need more as you level.

Last Epoch definitely got crafting right for the solo self founders. Exalt and pray for ssf is lol. At least you could get something relevant even if it was terrible and bricked quickly into the rolls in LE.

I feel like my build on my monk is really coming together as I'm blasting through packs of mobs like nothing with my lightning wave and my massive staff DPS. Then I get to the Act 2 boss and I feel like I'm barely putting a dent in this guy.

Grabbing a bow and quiver off trade has made a massive difference. The stuff in the guild tab was great and all, but this shit is legit. I basically don't even stop moving, just run through packs shooting. Made some nice flasks, too.

Also, Act 3 started off nuts. Had a greater jeweler, lesser jeweler, unique, and just tons of currency in that first jungle map (and 2 maps dropped).

Buy a pair a gloves with mana leech on em. On kill sucks end game and against bosses

Also, is playing on PS5 dur-mode? Can't figure out how to access some menus via controller (like minion gems with 4 sub-tabs), nor find any info online.

Act 2 about 3 quests in, btw. How the fuck are you supposed to deal with this at lvl 22 as a melee character?

There are some near impossible (depending on build) yellows that can spawn. In act 3 on my sorc, I got a yellow that was hasted, drained mana and did some other thing (fire?). It was impossible to get away from it, and the mana was drained so fast I couldn't get any spells off. Tried kiting it around trees, but it was faster than me and if I tried to stop to cast a spell, it was on me and mana went poof. It drained mana quicker than the mana flask could give it. I restarted the entire instance and it was gone, at least I didn't find it again. Assume yellow mobs and their abilities are RNG?

Did encounter similar mobs on my infernalist, but they were trivial as you can cast flame wall while moving for the raging spirits, and the arsonists didn't seem to care much about the aura.

Solves for that issue with skills. Takes a bit to get up and going but it's been great in maps so far.

This is what I’ve mostly been following, but I guess I’m not understanding what in there makes up for the mana? Maybe I’m missing a support gem. Will revisit it tonight and double check.

There’s a lot, and it’s not intuitive at all.

What are you all doing with all these extra charms, rings, and amulets? I've got almost an entire tab full of them now.

With the charms, I can't even tell what makes them good. They all seem identical.

if they're decent level you can trade in 3 for a rando ring. maybe swing for some resist attempts.

IRL friends of friends who have been playing POE1 for years have been arguing that currency/item drop rates are fine, because of their experience and the trade forums are working so well for them. That there are even such a thing as out-of-game trade forums shows that the drop rates are insufficient and GGG is using the crutch of "emergent interaction" or some such bullshit to avoid fixing it. Any time you have to leave the game to get items that make or break gameplay that players rely upon, its bad design in one or more, probably multiple places in your game economy/crafting systems. I was thinking that they were trying to test the white item->magic->rare item-> add affixes path for crafting but the drop rates in the campaign without increased rarity are so parsimonious that its just mind boggling. You are just effectively relying on the power of people who have made it to maps who have what seem like much better or at least adequate currency drop rates to add liquidity and set prices for the whole market. I have had a number of these arguments thrown my way: "I completed the campaign with a mediocre load out, why can't everyone else?" : Any system designed so a top 1% non melee player who knew how to use the trading system but didn't have top level gear because there was no one finished with the campaign yet is anecdata and again poor design. Folks making it work based on the few rares that drop and 10 years playing POE1 is not an example of a working system, quite the contrary. And how does that help SSF folks? What kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape must that be, trying to get through Cruel with just what you find on Merchants and drops.

Game is good to great, and when its done may even best in genre; gameplay is fun and animations are stunning. I still feel like Blizzard/Diablo has the slight edge here but its really an apple and oranges comparison on that front. Blizzard isn't trying to have a Souls-like Diablo game but it just feels a scintilla more responsive to me, engine wise. I replaced my mouse and my keyboard (Razor and Roccat, respectively) just to be sure they weren't getting old.

Now I have concerns that GGG has holes in their design philosophy that they are content to leave broken and do not intend to fix. The more I play, the more I find things with the UI, storage/stash space/inventory that are industry standard but missing in POE2, and when I ask my resident POE1 veterans about it, they can't seem to grok why its even an issue
-no way to tell item rarity without mousing over,
-Items should have level of transparency when placing in stash,
-no auto optimize/empty space removal in stash tabs,
-can't organize tabs via vertical menu on right in stash, among others;

at least I finally found option to always show sockets, which was a maddening search before I discovered it while looking through the options for something else.

TLDR: Game is super good, I hope GGG is fully intent on improving it more still, and resolving/addressing crafting/itemization issues before full launch.
Trading is pretty well integrated into the game, even if it does use a website for interaction.

Started a warrior yesterday to see what the buzz was about. I'm severely disappointed it doesn't really feel terribly hard. Took out act 2 boss on second try. Haven't bothered setting up any support gems.

Rolling slam first hit->dodge roll cancel->boneshatter annihilates trash. For bosses I cheese the fight start with earthshatter->infernal cry to open, but after that I pretty much just melee and boneshatter when I get a proc, another cry if I have to run around a lot, but I rarely do that. I have 800 DPS, I'm sure some support gems could help with that. I just don't bother to use any other skills so far. Leap slam in particular just feels stupid.

A lot of my best gear upgrades have come from checking vendors.
