I wonder if they will hit the ground running tmrw with an announcement of upcoming changes or are we going to have to wait another week.
Banking on a Chayula buff.

I've made the mana/energy sheild leech ascendancies work, but everything else has anti-synergy.

It's an energy sheild build so chaos resist is pointless because innoculation.

It's a physical damage build so everything else is weak because it gives chaos damage.

Then darkness is useless for everything because spirit gives so much offense and defense.

Don't know if anyone here has any ideas of how to use added chaos damage in a physical build. Best I can do is maybe use Chaos Damage to freeze/electrocute via the unique quiver, but buildup doesn't seem enough.

The chaos damage from Chayula is basically just a blanket more multiplier, so just pump your phys damage and the chaos will scale off of that. Don't bother with chaos damage stats or nodes.

Gain doesn't work like this in PoE2. You can hover over a gain tooltip in game.

Its simpler but also a bit more confusing.

Correct, and even though they no longer double dip, its still better just boosting your pure phys/ele which in turn increases how much the added extra chaos is. Still better then getting chaos nodes in most cases.

What you are describing would be how double dipping works. That's not what the tooltips are suggesting for gain. It's base damage that you gain, not damage after any/all scaling vectors are applied.

This is a pretty good topic to discuss I think and is probably even more confusing for poe1 vets than for people who've never played poe2 because we've been conditioned to the archaic systems in poe1.

This is the damage calculation formula from poe1. As far as I know its the same order in poe2

The basic damage calculation is:

Damage = (Base_Damage + Added_Damage) * Increased_Damage * More_Damage * Hit_Rate * (Critical_Strike_Damage * Critical_Strike_Chance)
  • Base_Damage: The primary damage of the skill. This is either specified in the skill itself (and increases with the level of the skill gem), or is determined by the damage of your weapon (in the case of most Attacks).
  • Added_Damage: Additional flat damage applied, modified by the skill's damage effectiveness value.
  • Increased_Damage: Additional percentage damage applied. All applicable sources of increased damage stack additively (e.g. two +10% increased damage modifiers add together to make 20% increased damage: 100% + 10% + 10% = 120%).
  • More_Damage: Additional percentage damage applied. All unique sources of more damage are multiplicative with each other (e.g. two +10% more damage modifiers will multiply on top of each other: 110% * 110% = 121%).
  • Hit_Rate: The rate at which the damage is applied, typically based on attack speed or cast speed.
  • Critical_Strike_Damage: See Critical Strike Multiplier.
  • Critical_Strike_Chance: See Critical Strike Chance.

So for gain it looks like this:

Damage = (Base_Damage + Added_Damage) ^THIS IS WHERE GAIN OCCURS^ * Increased_Damage * More_Damage * Hit_Rate * (Critical_Strike_Damage * Critical_Strike_Chance)

So if you had 1000 total base + added physical damage, and had 25% of phys gained as chaos. You would get 250 chaos damage.

Now if you had 100% increased physical damage, 100% more physical damage, 1 attack per second and 0 crit your final damage would be:

1000*2*2*1 for phys
and a flat 250 for chaos

This is how I read it and how I understand it to work in poe2.

I’m worried they are going to nerf energy shield instead of buffing evasion and armor.

Big energy shield nerf, small evasion nerf, no armour buffs, no life added to the tree, no resists added to the tree, MANY nerfs to skills, items and ascendancies, some bug fixes, no other buffs.

The first patch of the new year is going to brutal.

Not really atm, but you can recreate it here

Yeah, I feel like I'm the only Deadeye not using any Lightning.

Also, probably the only one using Jack of all Trades and the Herald skills with both Ash and Frost.

Everyone's sleeping on Ice Shot but it's actually so good.

I haven't even bothered to socket any of my skills to 5 or buy level 20 gems.

I haven't tried Ice Shot, what's good about it? It looks like another clear-based skill that needs a single target. I've been liking Shattering Concoction with Polcirkeln and Cast on Freeze - Freezing Mark. Don't gotta switch between skills, no combo shit, no mana problems.

So what you're saying is they didn't nerf armour stacking warrior. Awesome.
