I can't wrap my head around the longevity of the PoE2 numbers. Who are these people still putting effort into playing this barebones endgame yet have avoided playing PoE1? You can't say it takes effort to get into PoE1 when you put non-insignificant effort into playing PoE2 for months.

I think PoE 1 is bloated to such a point that it does not attract any new players, much less retain them. I think quite a few people that missed the ship when PoE 1 released or played within a few years of its release, have moved on and are waiting for the next " great thing "

I'm sure are a lot are people who were casuals and never played PoE, therefore they aren't the type that were hitting maps on day one so they're probably still struggling with pinnacle bosses etc.

Not everyone plays for the "endgame". Some just reroll alts and try different shit. Goof around, you know playing for fun instead of min maxing endgame.

I'm no PoE authist and I usally lose 90% of the fun when I hit the "run the same maps for weeks part", does not matter what game it is. So I usally start a new character and go again.

I played PoE2 way longer than I do other games, I found it fun. But since no new updates I have not been on for a month or so.

Also I think some players started very late and are still going.

I guess my point is why PoE2 specifically? Not just the endgame, almost every aspect of PoE2 is incomplete and lacking. If months were put into PoE2, why not a more fully featured competitor?

Yea I have no idea.

D4 is bad, LE got potential but I feel the lack of new stuff put it off the market a little bit. PoE scares normal people away.

Maybe.

LE is about to release a major patch after all this time. So LE might be back on the menu for a while. It will be nice to try out the revamped endgame system. Maybe GGG can take some notes since apparently they are not allowed to use the success of PoE to design PoE2.

Wish they could add in some brand new activities that aren't just repurposed from the first game, but also ones that are actually fun and have ways to make them harder + more rewarding.

The main atlas needs a ton of adjustments as well, as it stands the 30 points we have are pretty boring for the most part.

This game has turned into one of my biggest disappointments in gaming. If it was just shit then I would have been able to ignore it like most AAA releases. They can still fix it long term, but I won't ever care about it as much as I did at launch when I didn't mind learning everything and it was all still new. Shame they squandered it so quickly. Also on one hand I understand releasing it when they did for people to play, but man if they knew EA was that rough they should have waited until after the holidays so they could respond to everything if they were that resource constrained.

Number one rule of sales is expectations are everything. If they didn't set them so high then break them, it would be fine. But they did. Oh well.

A lot of stuff seemed to take them by surprise. I don't know if it was because they had a shake up at GGG or with Tencent. But everythuing was this and that and then at the last minute a complete turn around. Even the roll out of the early acess was oh yeah we will have two games at once with leagues and such. Then oh yeah we have to delay at the last minute because of a database issue with MTX and oh yeah we're not going to do have a lot of patches in 2 because the staff is working hard on 1, but that league is entering 7 months. Just doesn't instill confidence until they get it straightened out. Not a dev in the least but I think a lot of people thought that a lot of mistakes in 2 would have been avoided from their experiene with 1, guess not.

Never thought I would ever say it, but I miss the really long manifestos that Chris Wilson would release about how they learned their lesson and wouldn't do it again, until next time.

It's a bunch of career game devs in charge of a massive project, none of these outcomes are surprising to me at all.

Infinite scope/feature creep, wildly unrealistic promises and expectations, constantly changing targets/goals, no direction to any of it.

All perfectly par for the source in the software/games world when there's no one heading a project that actually knows how to ship a product and hold devs to some actual sane delivery timelines and goals.

I've played PoE 1 on and off since beta and the bloat ruins it for me.

PoE 2 maps are really enjoyable and you shove your exalted and regal orbs in your stash at the end of each one, maybe something from a league mechanic.

PoE 1 I've got half an inventory full of fragments of shit I'll never use, makes maps not be fun because it's work tidying up after. Just gave up on Phrecia because of it. Idols putting time consuming shit like Expedition or Blight everywhere didn't help.

Poe2 suffers from the exact same problem that poe1 did. It's not the bloat although that doesn't help, it's their explanation to the systems. GGG doesn't offer any guardrails or any type of semi guided progression to their game. The most you might get is a shitty pop-up if you have tutorials enabled that explains maybe half of the system if you're lucky. Go play LE or TLI, they are much friendlier with their systems and don't hold them hostage behind some wiki article you need to research before you can start enjoying the system to its fullest.

Different games for different people. Everyone who "missed the boat" on PoE1 has PoE2 to catch up and everyone from PoE1 wants PoE2's most advanced systems ported over which would ruin life for the former.

They may have, hilariously, captured both sides of the player base on accident.
