They posted the actual numbers for the 1.0 unique chance orb change, seems Soultaker is not on that list so I guess you can chance it off anything, weird that I haven't seen one.

Kaom's Heart: 78
Shavronne's Wrappings: 78
Voltaxic Rift: 78
Void Battery: 77
Thunderfist: 76
Mon'tregul's Grasp: 75
Rathpith Globe: 74
Devoto's Devotion: 74
Lioneye's Remorse: 73
Ming's Heart: 73
Auxium: 72
Andvarius: 71
Lioneye's Glare: 71
Divinarius: 71

I guess that unique challenge is quite a ton harder than it looked like with 3 items(I think all 3 are on the list at least) that drop only with ilvl 78.

If anyone needs a hand in nemesis I currently have a 74 there that can solo everything up to merc piety. If you need a hand message/add me.

So does this mean these same uniques can only drop from those ilevel items and above? Ie andvarius can only drop on a lvl 70 and up map? If so I have a crapload of uniques that are going to be a lot harder to obtain now

Don't believe so unless it changed recently. I had a Andvarius on hardcore for a while(until I died with it) and I've never done a map on hardcore. Can't remember where it dropped, but it was definitely a lower level zone(fairly sure I got it during Cruel somewhere)

It changed. Pyros' spoiler text is GGG's exact clarification on what uniques come from what ilvl base items. They posted it as part of the patch notes this morning.

Right, but does that mean that those uniques can only drop from zones/maps that drop that level of loot, or just that if you want to try to chance one with an orb, you need that level of base loot?

I have to think that Kaom's Heart is available as a drop before lvl 76 maps

Yes, those uniques are now map-only. What they did in 1.0 was increase boss drop rate of uniques, but at the same time they took a lot of the really good ones out of the boss loot tables completely. Yay?

As for Kaom's Heart, right now it is map-only, but both it and Shavronne's Wrappings will be reverted in 1.0.0g, along with the change to allow people to roll map-only uniques with Orbs of Chance (yeah, have fun with that). I assume it will be out in a couple days, since 1.0.1 is due next week.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Just got back into playing after taking a few months off and hadn't kept up with all the patch changes in the meantime.

Can anyone give me a quick rundown on this game? I noticed it's on steam now, as well as it's free to play. Now, is it actually free to play or.....? I've read it's very similar to Diablo2 for combat and then uses a type of grid + crystals to learn abilities (people mentioned it close to ff10 sphere grid and like ff7 materia system?) Is it fun single player or would that just get boring after awhile? I also assume you can do co-op through the story, that is if the story is even any good.

It's very free, cash only buys cosmetics or convenience like bigger inventory (the default is just fine though). As people have said, it's an improved diablo 2 basically, with a lot more depth. The story is kinda whatever, gameplay is the focus here. It's more fun with friends, and solo I would probably get bored after 1-2 playthroughs, but there are people who grind to the 90s and beyond solo.

Decided to give this a try and while I have watched streams of it and liked what I saw this has to be the single most frustrating game to start as a fresh new player that I have played in a looooooong time. Yes I chose Nemesis which might have been a bit of a mistake but I like hardcore rules and its where the cool kids seem to be.

I don't think it's frustrating? First playthrough is just, pick whatever, fuck around, get raped by act3 probably, restart and do it better, look up some stuff, use spare gear you stashed, maybe get to cruel act3 then wipe again, rinse repeat. If you put more effort right away you can generally make a viable character for cruel or merciless from the start. Wealth difference isn't big on the new league(I mean comparatively to old leagues, it's still very big between people who've been playing for 2weeks 8+hours a day vs a new player).

Anyway for the list I mentionned for uniques, they did come with a 2nd announcement they made later where they were going to reduce the list of map only uniques(khaom and shavronne are the 2 examples given of stuff that'll drop outside), and that chance orbs will not follow ilvl restrictions anymore so you could still chance map only uniques using any ilvl white drop. Unsure if that means for all uniques or only these ones though, since there are currently non map uniques that require a certain ilvl to be chanced.

We have received extensive feedback on the changes in 1.0.0 related to Unique items that could only drop from Maps. This change was made at the same time as massively increasing the rate of uniques found when farming bosses in higher difficulties. The motivation was that boss runs would be best for finding lots of uniques, but maps were best for finding certain powerful uniques. Feedback on the change to boss drops has been overwhelmingly positive, but many non-map players felt that restricting some of the best unique items in this way was unfair. While many of the best uniques could still drop in non-map areas, we completely agree that you should always have the feeling that an amazing unique could drop at any moment. We will be changing the system in two ways: Firstly, the list of map-only uniques will be reduced (Kaom's Heart and Shavronne's Wrappings will drop in non-map areas, for example). Secondly, you will be able to roll map-only uniques using Orbs of Chance. These changes will be made in 1.0.0g. We will continue to review is so that map and non-map players both have appropriate rewards for the risk and item/time investment that they undertake. Thanks for your continued feedback.

My recommendation (and this is purely my opinion) is that for a first character, you want to go with a spell casting build. In general, spellcasters are easier to do high dps with garbage gear. Melee tend to die easily in the later part of the game without proper equipment. On the flip side, at end game, my experience has been that my melee characters always pull far ahead in both dps and survival once they've obtained the proper gear, while my casters have seemed to peak then kinda stagnate in power in the 50s.

I agree Sinzar, early on, spellcasters really only have to worry about leveling their spell gem, and getting as much + spell damage on their wand as they can find, and they do great damage. The rest of the gear can all focus on survivability(hp/resists/movement)

Melee have it rough early on, the natural leveling of their ability gems doesn't do jack, you have to actively improve your weapon and gear to increase your DPS significantly.

I always find that I can end up with max resists on a caster character by the middle of Act 2 on normal difficulty, whereas I almost never max my resists on a melee character before Cruel difficuly, since a certain amount of gear(weapon, rings, etc) needs to be tailored at least a little towards DPS, or it's going to take FOREVER to kill anything, especially bosses.

Anyone have suggestions for a fairly cheap to run build that's still powerful, preferably for shadow/templar/marauder/ranger? My friend wants something for one of his existing mid/high level characters, but he lacks the uniques for any of the gimmick builds and doesn't have a huge amount of currency to go nuts with gear. I've ruled out totem builds; I've played totems+spectres+curses in the past and I doubt he'd like it much. Sounds like it got nerfed anyway, and neither of us have the gear to do it right (meaning triple totem and massive amounts of IIQ/IIR). I'm playing spectral throw+discharge--grudgingly, I much prefer cyclone but that skill is basically unplayable now with the desync bullshit--so preferably something not terribly similar.

Well a really strong build that doesn't require much gear atm is Traps. You can use a Sunblast Belt to make traps quite a lot stronger, and a Searing Touch for fire traps, but neither is necessary(and you can replace Searing Touch with a +2fire +30-40% spell dmg wand/dagger and be fine too and that shit would probably only go for 2-3chaos). I haven't actually played it but seen it played, it does ridiculous damage. Assuming no traps, Discharge build are fairly common too, however the better one requires a Searing Touch for burning and shit, see Kripp's build, kills everything on the screen instantly. In a similar but less expensive way, Explosive Arrow works too, it burns as hard as Discharge but from range, only takes a bit longer to setup, and the only item you need for it is a Quill Rain, which a 4L of isn't worth much, like 3chaos or so, probably less on domination/old servers. Then you have the good ole Freezing Pulse, need to tank up hard and freeze shit, 15+% FP is recommended so that's some expenses but rest is cheap shit. Similarily, good ole EK build, basically most of the usual caster builds.

Searing Touch is super super super expensive thanks to Kripp and a good Sunblast is an exalt too.
Isn't Searing Touch pretty common though? I have three of them banked, and pretty sure I sold a couple. None of them are 6s or anything but still.
