I don't think the community would stand for that. I think that would hurt them more than anything.
Maybe a 10 dollar item that resurrects your dead hardcore character in default league or something. Give them some sort of colored nameplate that indicates how high lvl they were at time of the hardcore death.

The season 2 rewards are a lot more attractive to me than season 1. Last season I managed to get top 10 for class twice I think and still only made it to the 5 or 6 point range for levels. Unless it's more reasonable to actually reach the 6-10 point range from leveling I still can't imagine getting to the 120 point reward but who knows.
There do seem to be a lot more events this season. At least for the first 14 days of the season it seems the 3 hour races are a bit rarer. I like the idea of the 90 minute ones too, should be a nice sweet spot.

HC characters are already put into the default league when they die. Something to indicate what level they made it to on HC would be very cool though.

So, it seems like quite a few things changed after the patch last night that weren't mentioned in the patch notes(or maybe I just missed them).
Light radius is now a stat on items, I got a ring last night with +10% light radius, and a weapon with +5% light radius. Not quite sure if we needed that stat, it would probably only be useful for people using low HP builds, or with a ton of HP reserved from blood magic auras. I just hope that + light radius isn't one of your stat prefix/suffix slots, otherwise that's pretty useless to most of the population.
Also saw a few items last night that almost make me thing the 3 prefix & 3 suffix standard has been expanded? Saw a rare mace linked in chat last night that had 9 rows of stats listed on it(one of them being light radius though). It was actually a crap weapon, but it had a TON of modifiers on it, seemed like a lot more than 6.

"Added new Item Mods - "of Shining", "of Light" and "of Radiance": Increased accuracy and light radius."
Also items can have 6mods but more than 6 lines, since some mods add 2 stats. This is the case for stuff like accuracy, stun recover, I think stun treshold maybe too, int/mana and so on. Just look at the mods list and you'll see a bunch of mods that give 2 stats, but they still count for 1 affix.

Hopefully it replaced the pure accuracy mod that already existed. Adding more useless mods just makes it harder to get the ones you want. Accuracy/light radius, lowered stats all seem pretty weak to me.

It's crazy how fast people can level in this game. The 1-week group race started Saturday morning I think, and by late afternoon there were already people in the 70s and doing maps. I got on around 4pm central time, and a lot of the announcements for first people in a certain map were still popping up. Nuts.

Rerolled bros I'm in desperate need of scrolls of wisdom. I use around 80 per hour and at the 4 fusing per hour rate I am going, I will be doing this for quite a while to finally 5L my shit. Any help will be rewarded with uniques as I come by them ( average 1 every 1-2 hours)

Lost my first HC char last night at level 31. : ( Defeated Vaal Oversoul without any real issues, zoned into City of Sarn, died a minute later to Perpetus who bear trapped me. I died in the time it took to figure out what happened and didn't log out in time.
