Typical old CoC proc stuff was Cyclone, because it hits twice per attack and lets you move while attacking. I don't know about using a 2H, although it might be worth it, but generally a decent CoC setup in a 6L chest will work just fine too, and you can use a shield or dual wield for more speed for more procs(although at some point it probably becomes redundant with the cooldown on it, even if it's low) and daggers for actual global crit. There was also some builds using that helm that gives spell power for attack damage or whatever, so you could do both good attack damage and good spell damage with it. Getting crit pretty high isn't too hard either if you build for it, and unlike a traditional single cast build, you don't have to scale damage as hard because you get more casts than usual(it's unlikely to get .15s castspeed on anything really), and you still get a ton of crits regardless so that evens out a fair bit, especially lightning crits with shock.

Interesting they went with unnerfing CoC rather than nerfing PP though. Usually they balance by nerfs rather than the other way.

Wasnt on of those new impale skills a barrage like attack? that'd be ideal for buffed CoC.

Static strike is the only persistent ATTACK. which opens up interesting CoC stuff.

So help me out with evaluating items here. This thing seems good, but the only rings I can find on poe.trade that have both crit change and melee damage also have a ton of other mods and cost a shit ton, and this one doesn't look anywhere near as good as those?

There's an option called Advanced Item Info, you need to turn that on. Once that's on, you can hold alt while hovering on an item, and it will break down which mods you have, what tier they are, and if they're a prefix or suffix. Life/ES and resists are mods you want as close to T1 as possible, and typically drive the value of any given item.

I haven't played since Legacy League, feels like a good time to jump back in. I've never done an ice caster, any ideas on a good set up for a league starter?

Be advised, the Tier listing is global, even when a item slot can not get higher Tiers.

Example. +flat life on a ring. 70-79 aka Virile is highest possible on a ring. t6
while, +120-129 aka Prime is the highest life possible, on a chest. t1

So, it will call +79 life on a ring, t6. But it is actually the highest you can get.

Advanced mods, will show when two separate mods add the same stat, and are combined. That was an old problem.

Poe's crazy depth obviously makes it very very wiki dependent. you simply can not memorize all this stuff. Here is poe affix. Which catalogs all possible item mods, ranges, tiers, etc.

Most older cold skills are not high on the league starter list. A few are getting reworks, which might impact this. Icespear notably was talked about.

Winter orb is looking pretty amazing. Mechanically speaking.. it does fucking everything.
Cast once, and it persists, dealing damage as you run around.
It spams projectiles ala barrage. So it shotguns.
it does AOE damage on impact with those projectiles. Also making sure it shotguns.

We don't know the final stats, but man look at how easy this clears in the vid.

Worst case scenario, Winter orb should replace orb of storms for curse application. Again... persistent, aoe curse on hit.

Just watching this is making me reconsider to starting winters orb... I was planning an attack build, becuase I did two casters in a row last two leagues. BVdelve, and flamesurge/incursion.

Thx! I'll keep an eye on Winter's Orb and look at some Icespear vids. Shotgunning def feels like something I'd like to do this time.

The reason it's a cheapo PP is because you just stack global crit, get a fast attacking weapon, stack spell damage and attack speed, and go nuts. Can easily get the 65% crit chance and 10ish APS with just garbo attack abilities like barrage/power siphon/etc.

So basically rather than getting PP's and slotting them up, you just build up pure spell damage and use arc/coldsnap/lightning ball whatever connected to a faster attacks/multistrike whatever settup and blow shit up. With staffs/bows you can even roll inherent lvl 20 cast on crit shaper affix. So now you just get a bow with that in it, 20% double damage mod because it's GLOBAL damage, maybe +1 gem it, and put in whatever ability you want to use as a vector for your crits. Honestly a 2hand staff with +1 melee with elemental hit as the main ability and then a matching element proc might be good too. For instance:

Staff with cast on crit with +1 gems and 20% double damage:
Static Strike--Multistrike-- Arc-- Ele Focus -Controlled Destruction - Inc crit chance

Then you just stack +lightning damage in trees and jewels (actual jewels, not eyes) with crit multiplier and some desired attack speed stuff. Staffs can roll up to 1.5 APs so it's not too bad.

CoC was so much fun and probably the most fun I had in this game. You can use a Vagan weapon to never miss which is what 95% of us used for CoC back in the day. Lycosidae i bet is going to be heavily used by Discharge so they can also use Cospri's which is another version of CoC that was zoom zoom and super popular.

Newbies that want to make currency listen up: This is going to be my fourth league and last league was the first one that I never used the Chaos recipe to earn currency and I had it coming out of my earholes. The key is the Delve.

You are going to want to find a Delve path between level 50-70 that is long enough to have a few turns, more than 5 side areas, and at least one breakable wall. The key here is that you do NOT break any of the walls when you run the delve. Not breaking the wall with dynamite will force the area to respawn when you click on either of the endpoints and allow you to quickly run back through and collect the chests and fossils in the darkness. Your goal is to dive into the darkness and only pick up fossils, resonator stashes, and currency chests. Item, armor, and weapon chests aren't worth the time since this is about grinding it out. A currency chest averages 1C per chest and you can run these delves about 50 times an hour. When I needed currency I would grind the same delve path at depth 72 and make about 140C an hour. I am not a huge grinder so I would only do it when I needed upgrades.

If they don't change Delves not resetting if you don't break the wall then I am going to grind hardcore the first few days.

A Delve that looks like this is great, if each of the legs was longer it would be perfect.

Bounced all over the Atlas last night. Was doing T13 with minor difficulty. These are so fun, I just want the Stash Tabs on sale again so I can get enough space to really start banking and selling a reasonable stock of gear.

How is Winter Orb channeled if the guy is running in the video while the spell effect is still happening? You see him stop to cast it but then he is off to the races.

Definitely replaces Orb Of Storms easy peasy as it is mobile rather than fixed.

Edit - right I seem to remember that you charge it up to a power level............

Buying a map and fragment tab might be the thing I'm most stoked about. My OCD wasted so much time keeping those organized manually.

Channeling the spell powers up the orb and makes it shoot more projectiles. The longer you channel it the longer it lasts so you can channel to charge it up and then run around and let it shoot at things.
