Watched a few more movies this weekend.

Porkies - First time I actually ever watched this but it was hilarious. Was this the start of the teen sex comedy? Holds up well, but obviously would never be made today with how sensitive people are. Interesting was the social messages in it. Not okay to say American Inventor, not okay to make fun of jews, domestic violence is not okay.

Porkies 2 - Not hilarious. While the first one was seemingly joke > sexy scene > joke, this one was not. It hits you over the head with the social message right off the bat and does not let up. I turned it off maybe 1/3 of the way through it.

Weekend At Bernies - Havent watched this in ages so it was basically a new movie to me. Holds up but man are the two main characters walking tropes.

Me Myself and Irene - Holds up but good god Jim Carry is horrible at physical comedy. Movie dragged every time it went to Hank being a retard.

HBO Max - Fresh Prince of Bel Air Reunion

Honestly, fucking fantastic. I loved the show as a kid. This was just great. Will of course leads the discussion, they all get to share some favorite memories, a lot of emotions are shared. They really keep hammering the point they truly felt like a family, and how they learned so much from each other. Ie, Tatyana Ali's first kiss was on the show. When they covered James Avery (Uncle Phil, died in 2013 from heart surgery complications), there was some hardcore emotions. Literally, the entire cast was bawling in tears, and looked completely devastated as if he died yesterday. They were in true pain.

They covered a lot of the most famous scenes from the show, for example when Carlton freaks out one episode and runs through all the sets screaming, probably the funniest scene on TV, and the show when Will's dad comes back, but then leaves without him. I literally taped that on a VHS and labeled it "best episode of Fresh Prince ever" back in the day. And the scene where Hilary is being proposed and her husband is bungie jumping.. and dies mid proposal - LOL.

It got a little awkward at the end when they had the original Aunt Viv on, there apparently was some beef with her and Will Smith. But they seemed to resolve it. Will Smith seemed absolutely genuine. Tears all around for everyone, including myself.

So, for any fan of the show, I recommend watching the reunion. It was just great.

(Carlon on his knees, fucking LOL)

(The whole scene.. oh my god. In the reunion, they reveal when Will and Uncle Phil embrace, Phil whispered "now thats how you act.")

Mr.Jones

Hey I’m watching Mr. Jones. Check it out now on Prime Video!
Watch Mr. Jones | Prime Video

The movie is about the Holodomor which was the Ukrainian famine which took place in the early 1930’s caused by Stalin’s policies which many believe was to exterminate the Ukrainians.

Great movie about a brave journalist that rings true today more than ever before.

Rental on Amazon is only 99 cents right now. I went ahead and bought it.

9/10

Happiest Season - 9/10. I thought this movie was hilarious. A lot of these forums will probably hate it because its about lesbians but I thought the writing was excellent and a pretty great cast. Its a Hulu original Christmas-esque movie.

Didn’t get around to the Blumhouse movies on Amazon from Halloween. Finally watched Black Box tonight and hated it. Felt like a 15 minute short story stretched out to an hour and a half. Hoping the other two are at least a little better!

Just watched "Anything for Jackson" on shudder. It was VERY good. Good acting, very original. Reminded me most of "A dark song" , but different in enough ways.

Yeah I expected worse but it was pretty good. Wish they would have made it like a week with the body swap and not 24 hours, ust like an extra 15 minutes of weird shit they both do. As soon as they got into the back seat i just said YESS make it weird.

I watched "Killing of a Sacred Deer" tonight. It is, as far as my memory goes, the worst film I've ever watched. It is a cold, empty piece of nihilistic allegory. There is no humanity in it at all. It's like an AI's attempt at making a film based on a Greek tragedy (though I'm sure actual AI could do better). Or maybe a film made by an autistic person at the very end of the spectrum. The stilted, flat, empty way the director has the characters talk only detracts, never adds. And the interactions are fully unbelievable but without an end goal. It's absurdity without a point -- total nihilism. I've read some of the reviews and how people interpreted this and the larger meaning of the film and it all feels fully unsatisfying and pointless.

I honestly feel trolled having watched it.

Watched "Darkest Hour" last night and I was surprised at how amazing I thought it was. I am not much into the dramatic or human stories of late, but I am always into WWII pieces, and this was, of course, tangentially that via Churchill. Now, will say I am a little gay for Gary Oldman and will watch pretty much anything he is in, but I thought he was fucking amazing. Highly recommend but I am sure results will vary.

I also, on a bit of a tangent (to over use a word), found an amazing youtube channel that looks into the philosophy of movies and video games, called "Like Stories of Old". I have watched about 8 of his movie discussions and, I kid you not, was moved to tears in 2 of them. He did an expose on "Tree of Life" (I was in thee "I despised it" group), and now I actually want to watch it again after watching the youtube video interpreting the actual jumble that was the movie. Anyway, I would recommend taking a look if you have any interest at all in philosophy (especially Greek) and like movies and video games. He did a decently good video on the Last of Us 2 focusing on the empathy elements.

This wasn't bad at all, not sure I'd say 9/10 but watchable for sure. Not sure there's anything specific I'd change or complaints. Pretty cool flick. Haven't seen/heard of "A Dark Song" so may check it out too.

“The 9th company” on Amazon prime is good. It’s about Russians defending a outpost against Afghans while being outnumbered. Good flick if you do not mind subtitles. Similar to the Vietnam movie Hamburger Hill.

The Night Comes for Us.

I'm sure some of you have already seen it, but I had no idea it even existed. And from the title, I would have assumed it was a horror movie. It's not, it is in the same vein as The Raid, up to having the main dude from The Raid in it. And maybe others, but except for him the rest of the cast was Chinese? Korean? I am terrible with differentiating, but he even makes the comment that in this country, he's the foreigner.

Anyway, it is exactly what you'd expect: brutal as fuck fight scenes, culminating in a 15+ min epic battle at the end where the two guys beat the shit out of each other yet somehow keep fighting. It was glorious.

One standout for me was a chick fight, one very attractive girl (who is from The Raid 2, btw) vs. two weird but kinda attractive girls. Also brutal as fuck, particularly the deaths. Another mid-movie epic battle was pretty well done too.

Currently on Netflix, highly recommend, 9.5/10. The .5 is for a couple scenes where the "about to have their asses kicked" extras were sorta standing around waving weapons instead of rushing in to not let the main hero fight only 1-2 at a time. Or the hero getting kicked in the back by a guy with a machete, instead of, you know, being stabbed through the heart. But that's martial arts movies for you, so only half a point deduction!

I highly recommend A Dark Song.

I watched the Bannana Splits Movie. 7.5/10. Really enjoyable slasher with some comedy.

Boss Level - 8/10 which is way higher than it should be (so realistically it is like a 7/10?) but it was great. What is very violent and over the top manages to shoe horn in some heart strings, not take itself seriously, but still hit that level of seriousness that is just right. I saw it pop up a few times here and for whatever reason just ignore it but am glad to have watched it. Really cheesy yet cool flick.

Expulsion - So this is a very gracious 6.5/10. If you are at all turned off by budget films you'd hate it. Overlooking the bad audio mixing, lighting, make up, and whatever else comes with budget (acting?) there's a really cool movie here. Sort of a multi-verse end of the world type thing. It really kept me watching and didn't go super crazy and try to outdo itself. Some tighter production would have helped immensely here. But if you like indie Sci Fi I'd definitely suggest. It isn't Primer, so don't go in thinking that level of indie greatness.

Wonder Woman 1984 - HBO Max - Good. Leagues better than the previous movie, did some never before seen stuff. Gets worse the more you think about it, but the good stuff is good regardless. I'd like to see Pedro and Malcolm Reynolds in something together.

Alien - HBO Max - Classic. Felt like watching a piece of history. Alien costume was Godzilla bad by today's standards tho. A remaster would be awesome.

Soul - Disney Plus - Good, not great but good. I got lost a few times by its logic, but overall good and certainly watchable.

Manhunter - Netflix - Very Good. Series - Binged until 3 a.m., look forward to finishing it.

Ava - Netflix - Good. Black Widow basically.

Klaus - Netflix - Good. Probably locked in as seasonal classic.

Hillbilly Elegy - Netflix - Great. I couldn't finish it due to triggers, but was excellent from what I saw.
