Escape from New York was filmed in East St Louis thou . . .

I watched Austin Powers last night, first time in a long time and the first time seeing it in HD.

Still pretty damned funny. Mike Myers makes both main characters work so well, Austin and Dr Evil.

Liz Hurley = Ron Simmons DAMN !!!

A bit of an unpleasant aspect was how they're talking about him having been frozen for 30 years and how he doesn't fit in / has trouble adapting etc. Then as I'm watching I do the math in my head that the movie came out in 1997. So we're at 24 years since it came out. Feel I'm getting old.

Also the HD version makes his bad teeth more obvious.

Also a spoiler as it kinda spoils the film a bit

I'd only learned a year or so about this:

The actor who played Dr Evil's main henchman 'Random Task' was later convicted of a violent crime involving a rape / repeated rapes done as a gun was held to the victim. Which he'd done before the filming of the AP movie. Also later after being put in jail, he'd gotten in to a major conflict with another inmate and ended up killing him, so is now also a murderer. It made all the scenes he's in hard to watch knowing what he truly is.

Watched Fatman, with Mel Gibson as Santa, and Walter Goggins as an assassin. It was decent, aimed more at adults than kids for sure. Thought it would be funnier than it was but still an ok filler movie. 7/10.

See I just watched The Little Things.

It starts off interesting, is really well acted, and then just never really tells a compelling story. It loses steam, has no suspense, wraps up abruptly and the "reveals" are not very impactful at all.

6/10

It has an old timey murder detective vibe to it and that's enough. Well it doesn't just have an old timey vibe to it, it IS old timey. It was written 25 years ago. DW is classic DW and Malik is good. Leto overdid it but in this case it worked.

It got Lisa Bonet tossed off of the Cosby Show by Bill for her toplessness. Bill Cosby's strong moral fiber cannot be doubted.

Breach - latest straight to video, low budget Bruce Willis movie. Its about alien horror on a spaceship. Its terrible but i guess in a funny MST3K kinda way.

I would probably opt to just watch the original if it hurts the film, because if I go into it with a fresh mind, and imagine this kind of dropping out of the blue (which it did rofl), I start to crack up just at the madness of the whole entire opening dance idea.

And the follow ups still can easily get me too.

I watched The Cell. That movie reminds you, J-Lo is an adrenochrome QUEEN, and that before he sunk his entire personality into playing "COPE DUDE!" on TV, Vincent D'Onofrio could have easily turned into a Christopher Plummer type character. A horror veteran type. Because his charatcer was evil as fuck.

But he did not. He "copped" out.

R.I.A - 4/10. Almost a poor full length Black Mirror sort of idea that just gets worse and worse. I stuck through but didn’t particularly enjoy it.

Monster Hunter - 2/10. Just terrible. Terrible.

Psycho Goreman - 8/10. Movie was just awesome. Great world building, practical effects / costumes, humor, violence. Docked a half a point because the little girl is somewhat annoying but it also works with her character. Was really surprised how much I ended up liking it.

Space Sweepers - 6/10? I really didn’t like this at all and after reading comments here that is surprising. Not sure why it didn’t click. Felt like it took over an hour to actually get moving. And for everything going on the world felt shallow? Jumbled? I kept thinking about 5th Element and how much character there was in the world and how interesting it was. This was just... stuff. Not sure, it just all seemed a mess to me.

Alita Battle Angel. Disney big-eyes on a terminator girl, with plotholes to match. Manga originally. Has Christoph Waltz. Speed Ball 2 Brutal Deluxe is the core entertainment. I wish I’d seen it in the cinema, cgi looks good. I’ll give it a solid 7-11, tasty snack when you’re hungover, no wish for a rewatch.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar - 2/10.

This movie was really weird and had some funny moments. But it was just really dumb. Im a fan of Kristen Wiig and the reviews were pretty positive but woof.

Fury with Brad Pitt

I love some WW2 movies, but I couldn't get into this one. I'll give it a 6/10 because Brad can act and the kitchen scene was pretty intense and was the most interesting scene of all.

This movie works if you imagine it as a live action spin off of Rick and Morty.

I don't really know. I understand that it's not a historical movie, so inacuracies like "this tank can't kill that tank" did not affect my judgement; I took this movie as a psychological drama of men at the end of a horrible war. To me, the weakest point of the movie was the totally forgettable cast. Didn't care when they got shot. The final battle was also over the top. As far as I understood the movie, during the kitchen scene Pitt realise that there will be no redemption for him and his crew, that he can barely control them, hence why he decide to do one last suicide mission (otherwise why survive for 6 years ?), but they did not need to make it heroic.

I didn't like Fury either, got real close to shutting it off too.

They were playing all the negative elements of war up to the maximum and the whole experience of watching it just felt bad. Bad as in feeling the experience, but also with a large amount of "the film maker is doing this so that I feel this way, and it's obvious manipulative choice"

the entire crew being cunts to the new guy was an early flag that they were going 100% into the 'war turns men into monsters' path. That was played with such a heavy hand too.
