Watched The Monster (2016) - IMDb last night, was better than I expected it to be. It's a monster suspense movie on the surface, but it is really a mother/daughter relationship movie. It kind of worked for me and I liked it. I'm not going to say it was great, but I'd give it 6/10, which on my scale indicates that I'm not sorry I watched it. The acting was surprisingly decent too, given that 99% of it was the mother and 12'ish? year old daughter.

sausage party - 7/10. as expected, stupid as FUCK but man i laughed my ass off at the juvenile jokes and the sophomoric religious philosophy ideas in it. if you like stupid shit, you'll like this movie but you should probably be high or drunk when watching it

Jesus. It's like I'm talking to Drax the Destroyer.

Nah, some people just like horseshit movies that cater to their beta male power fantasy. The movie is, was and will always been a steaming pile of shit enjoyed by these guys who also for some reason fucking love Pixar movies.

Swiss Army Man - 6.5/10. Some funny moments but kind of a wtf movie.

Found it very disappointing. I'm sure with some of the twists at the end there's some deeper meanings, but I just didn't care for it enough to spend time thinking about it

Nice Guys: 8.5/10

Late to the party, but very happy I finally got around to watching it. Crowe and Gosling killed it.
So you're telling me you made a porno where the plot is the point?

I saw "Office Christmas Party" today. It was decent. It was in the same vein as horrible bosses. Then again, it also felt like that movie, Project X. Pretty similar. I liked it.

Just watched Star Trek Beyond. Was pretty good. Maybe the worst of the reboots but still better Generations, Nemesis, and Insurrection. Overall happy with it.

SuperBob. I enjoyed it quite a bit more than I expected to. Fairly obvious and no surprises, but I found it to be heartwarming and I liked it. The guy they got to play Bob was a perfect choice I felt.

Due to that new jason game all over twitch, I was reminded that Jason X was one of my favorite Jason movies. Just re-watched it. Solid 7/10 for what it is. Nice throwback.

Watched A Christmas Horror Story last night. I found it surprisingly enjoyable. 4 mostly well done stories centered around people from the same town. I really liked Santa vs the zombie elves.

Watched Mike Birbiglia's newest movie Don't Think Twice - 7/10 pretty much on par with SleepWalk With Me, kind of a slow burn into a really melancholy ending. It honestly felt like the end of No Country for Old Men a bit

Rainbow Time - 9/10 I watched this because it was a Duplass Bros production and I , apparently, am a movie masochist since they've got a less than stellar catalouge but I tend to like their movies anyways. This wasn't directed by either of the brothers and just barely has one of them in it. It's a really odd story about a guy who has some intimiacy issues who ends up having to spend a lot of time with his mentally disabled brother who likes making movies and doing a lot of perverted things but it ties everything up nicely and has a tight script. It does some SJW takedown stuff in a really strange way.

Deadgirl - 8/10 I watched this a few months ago and have been kind of rolling it over in my head so had to re-watch it this week. It's a really strange horror movie and it took some serious balls to make this. It's about two high school kids who ditch class to hang out in an old mental institution and they find a naked girl tied up in the basement while exploring. One of the guys convinces the other not to call the cops and ends up going down into the basement and fucking this girl then beats her to death when she wakes up and tries to get away. But she doesn't stay dead so they've got a tied up zombie sex slave. I think that it's basically a high budget Troma movie due to the people involved but it's got a completely different tone, really disturbing but there's nothing really like this.

Now You See Me 2 - 4/10. I thought the first one was a 7/10, this one was worse in pretty much every way and must have been financed by China or something cuz half the movie took place in china and the message of the movie was "work together for prosperity for all, rich people are evil". I still don't really understand how or why this movie got made. Everyone is back except Isla Fischer, who got replaced by Lizzy Kaplain. No nudity sadly.

Was a decent date night movie though, wife sorta liked it and there is nothing offensive and the magic special effects are kinda cool I guess. I have no idea why chicks like magicians, they all seem creepy to me. The other option was the rom com Mothers Day so I feel I still dodged a bullet.

accountant - 5/10. Ben Affleck is autistic Jason Bourne, part time assassin full time accountant. The only movie of 2016 that features an accounting math montage. The entire idea is stupid as fuck, but Affleck is charismatic enough that its a mostly ok. A really, really weird heavy focus on autism in the entire movie plus Hideo Kojima levels of story telling. I just can't imagine how they got actors like JK Simmons, Kendrick, John Lithgow, or Jeffrey Tambor to do the movie. Musta been accounting.

Just saw two movies very difficult to rate: The first one was The Neon Demon that takes a cliché story (new girl in LA has the special something thats makes her a star - here in modeling) and twist it by bringing it to its (il)logical extreme. The end result is somehow something even more stupid than the cliché it twists BUT Winding Refn cinematic flair provides some fascinating sequences. The second one was Paterson, Jarmusch's latest. The film (which covers a not very eventful week in the life of a poet/bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey) is very well done, but as fragile as the imagist poetry that inspires it (free verses and direct language about everyday life). There is a lightness in tone, a willingness to not let itself shackled by the imperatives of fiction, a simplicity in the movie that are the signs of a mature director confident in his craft, but at the same time, the film is not obviously great or impressive. The real test, I guess, is how enduring an impression it will leave in spite (or because) of its simple elegance.

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates - 6/10

Retarded fun; neither deep or inspiring. Typical destination vacation hijinks. It got some belly laughs out of me, especially the ATV scene and the E Horse freedom scene. Efron continues to be one of the most underrated comedic actors around.

Rogue One - 8/10

Best SW movie since the original 3. Gritty with an insanely good final battle scene. First 30 minutes are really iffy but it hits a good stride about halfway through. A few missteps keep it from all-time greatness.

The Nice Guys - 7/10

I enjoyed how this movie embraced its absurdity. It turned into an over-the-top cartoon by the end, which was fine by me. Crowe and Gosling crushed it -- their banter was so smooth and understated yet hilarious. Kid on the bike by the burned down house had me rolling.

I always loved the part where the two girls are in the sleeping bag and he bashes it against a tree.

Office Christmas Party

Dumb movie but has some decent funnies. First 15 minuets is funnier than all of Keanu.
