The Kinsey scale actually makes reasonable sense. The work he did was ground breaking and I have nothing but admiration for it. The primary issue with his numbers is selection bias and that is hardly his fault, the people most willing to talk to him were also the people who felt they were far outside the "norm."

Back to the original topic of this thread. I started using datehookup after seeing it mentioned on the okcupid blog, seems like a slightly better version of tinder.
But I've actually had the most luck lately meeting women from craigslist believe it or not (for dating, not just casual sex). I think it's mostly that the men posting on craigslist are SOOO much worse than your average guy with a dating profile on okcupid... makes me look like a 9/10

I met my current husband through OkCupid. The trick with online dating is always be truthful; I had put in my profile: love video games, computer geek. My husband also plays MMOs and shit so we were a match made in heaven.
I know a friend who's really overweight use pictures when he was younger and skinnier, and saying things like 'I go to the gym regularly'; bitch please.

Also, to clarify, I put there what a lot of people consider 'uncool' which is playing MMOs and stuff (they think you're the typical fat guy with pimples living in your mom's basement). I did put other things that I like.
My point is, be straightforward and honest, even with what you're most ashamed/embarrassed of; you like talking dirty, kinky stuff? Make sure she/he knows early on; don't use fake old pics, be sure about what you like and what not, putting something like 'long walks on the beach' when you haven't been to one in 5 years is fucking dumb. You're supposed to say what you like and do on a regular basis, you want a match to have a relationship with and possibly spend the rest of your life.
In the case of my friend, he hasn't set foot on a gym in over 2 years, yet puts 'working out' as one of hobbies (he's overweight, doesn't go out and never really works out), why? because he wants a beefy dude to either fix him or hook up and love him how he is; fucking idiot trying to pull a King of Queens.
So far, okcupid in my area is rough. Almost no cute girls, and the ones there are are fickle as hell. Even the PhD/MD and students.I'm working under the hypothesis now that my online/text game is off a bit, but it's certainly not all me. Are the pay sites better for girls who are more committed since it takes some buy in?

No they are not. Regardless of what people say they are all the same. People are just a bit less honest on the pay sites I've found. Probably because they want to get the most "bang for their buck" so to speak.
Match over Plenty of Fish is HUGE but maybe it is just PoF and not the fact that Match is pay and PoF is free.
There are always regional differences. Some areas OKC is huge. Some areas PoF. Some areas there honestly isn't much of anything regardless of the site you use. It just varies.

About to go back to work soon, which necessitates moving (at least part time) back to the city. I have been on paid leave much of the year.
Anyway I'm 43 and have dated the same woman for 19 years. Name a site that caters to mostly professionals and not a quick hook up site if you can. Everyone I work with is older than I am. I'm the youngest at work which would naturlally be the easiest place to network.

There isn't really a difference. You define what you're looking for when you use a dating website, but it isn't like there is one site for professionals, one site for recently back on the market, one site for etc. Just go on OKC. By far the best designed one and overall the most popular.

In my area, DFW, there is a HUGE difference between the quality of POF and OKC. If you wanna harpoon a white trash whale with minimal effort, POF is where it's at. If you want to date someone that's educated, has a career, and looks decent, then stick with OkCupid, at least around Dallas/Fort Worth.
I can't stress enough how much a couple of good profile pics will do. I did a lot of mountain climbing this summer and got a few nice shots of me at 14,000' and as soon as I got back home and turned my profile on, my inbox consistently had new messages from some quality tail. I even went so far as to turn it back off last week because it was too much of a distraction and I had the #'s for 3 or 4 decent broads anyway. Will probably turn it back on in a week or so though since they turned out to be mostly duds or too far away. Still got anal on the first date with one though!
