I've gotten so lazy with raids. Mortar the fuck out of them. Whatever is leftover they can funnel into my uranium turrets. My colonists getting drunk in the party zone.

How do you stay supplied with reinforced barrels?

Bug infestations can be walled in and cooked to death by building some straw flooring and setting fire to it. They will try to break out but if the part where they try to break out is at least 2 thick they will usually collapse from the heat before they make it out.

Build the wall/floor while bugs sleep, if you don't get too close they wont wake up. Need 15-20ish tiles of straw depending on the size of the cave they are in. Wood fence works well too.

Unethical tip in spoiler

This works on prisoners too if you want to skill up your doctor, disassemble a wall to instantly vent the heat out of the prison once the prisoners collapse and have enough injuries to practice on

Even more unethical tip
As above, but just use your own colonists as practice subjects

Bought the Royalty DLC.

Right off the bat Consul Evantia shows up, rolling 11 deep and has a quest to eat all my food and start fights for 24 days. All their soldiers are hooking up and getting married too. I have to keep her happy and I get some honor. Only 6 more days to go.

Thanks to this quest I go another winter where everyone shows up to spring starving and all my animals are misscarrying.

Buy up barrels every chance you get. Just sell everything you got to get those barrels.

When I first get barrels I only use them to kill off psychic ships and that's it. Late game I've got a stack of 200 or so and stop giving a fuck.

Got a third mech cluster just a day after clearing the previous two. This time I used my Thrumbo cavalry to sit deep into their base, then used them as meat shields with my fighters in the EMP hit area (I only used two emps this time) while my royalty quest escorts plinked from afar. Worked OK. For whatever reason I don't like using mass HE mortars even though I have 9 mortars and made hundreds of HE shells. Maybe next time.

got a quest to protect a crashed shuttle from a raid; happened during the waiting period before a standard colony raid. Both factions are bow chumps. The quest raid spawned right on top of the other raid..

I started working on my throne room. Expanded to the west side of the area. I've got big plans!

Zoom in view of my throne room. I like the ritual animations they have.

Tuco must've missed the part where you roll with psychopath cannibals and start an organ harvesting Empire.

I would never. I'm more of a lawful neutral type. If the combat was more fun I'd also conquer the whole area like I do in Mount and Blade.

The area I planned is now basically complete.

My plan is terrible. This is my first playthrough and created my plan largely without knowing the game mechanics.

My plan was to create two independent colonies on the same map, one on the left and one on the right. They would have their own food, crafting, and power, but would cooperate in defense, research, birthing new colonists etc. I separated the colonists into different zones that shared the outdoor areas and central palace. This breaks down because of item counts on the map being connected between the two colonies. For commodities like food I could overcome this with having high priority chests that mechs would balance, but for low quantity items like implants, this isn't feasible.

Even if I could split item counts between left and right, the base is also terrible because being planted on the zone boundary is a liability.

I've got a new layout I'm planning to make. I thought about moving to a new site like I did previously, but decided against it.

Yep. And when you're feeling complete in the next round - you'll have learned more, and will restart again. Ultimately trying to perfect the base. lol
