I didn't hate Captain Marvel other than Brie being by far the weakest part of the movie. TLJ though? I walked out of that one going "what the fuck was that shit?" and I've NEVER done that before with a movie.
Captain Marvel added literally nothing to the Marvel Universe. If it never existed there would be no change to any other movie and everything would still make perfect sense. Additionally, it was boring and lacked a decent story. That makes it a trash movie all the way around.

The captain marvel movie wasn't actively bad to me, just incredibly boring.

I didn't leave the movie early, I just thought it was dogshit after it was over. I'm generally pretty picky about what I see in theaters. I did lie though, I thought Alexander was god awful too. Even Rosario Dawson's sweet sweet half-n-half titties couldn't save that one.
i saw Waterworld on cable, it was a lot of fun. it didnt flop either. people are told that this movie was bad and thats the memory they have. its fault is that it was way too long so there were some lulls in the movie. it could have been edited snappier and there would be no complaints. its not meant to be a thought provoking drama, its supposed to be a big dumb action movie and it delivered.

I mean waterworld gets shit on more than it probably actually deserves but it was definitely a box office flop. It had a 172 million dollar budget and made 88M domestically, and 176M internationally so it definitely lost money.

Waterworld (1995) is 12th when adjusted for inflation. For unadjusted Titanic is the only movie tied at the $200m range before 2004.

Other pre-2000 from inflation adjusted:
27th: Wild Wild West (1999) - $170m budget
29th: Cleopatra (1963) - $31.1m budget
63rd: Armageddon (1998) - $140m budget

Last Jedi didn't flop but it took a hell of a hit from the previous and they will NEVER clarify how bad the merchandise drop was.

Waterworld - Even 18 years after its release on the very same weekend as Wolverine, Waterworld is still held up as the king of the bombs, which wasn't true then nor is it true now. At a then-record cost of $175 million, the Kevin Reynolds-directed and Kevin Costner-starring 'Mad Max on water' adventure picture was tagged as a flop before it even opened. Dubbed 'Kevin's Gate' and 'Fishtar', the film battled rounds and rounds of bad press concerning cost overruns due to the difficulties of filming on water, as well as the behind the scenes squabbling between Reynolds and Costner. The film debuted to mixed reviews and a good-but-not great $22 million opening.

While the film suffered from bleh word of mouth (it was basically a character-driven sci-fi downer with two massive bookend action scenes) and eventually cashed out at $88 million in the US, overseas grosses saved the day. Amassing $175 million in international dollars, the picture limped out of the red with a respectable $266 million in global box office. It was no mega smash, but the film eventually broke even thanks to home video and cable sales. It's no masterpiece, but it's no mega-flop either. It's a generally satisfying action film that made its money back the hard way. You want to knock an over budget Kevin Costner epic? Pick on The Postman, but leave Waterworld alone.

that 266 million is gross, and doesn't take into account how much of that goes to the theaters and the budget of the film doesn't take into account the marketing budget either. not saying it was a megaflop, but it certainly didn't make money. Doesn't make it necessarily a bad movie, just one that didn't financially do very well.

the article says it broke even on video and cable.

Waterworld was fun for what it was - post-apocalyptic adventure. Hell, even Postman was fairly entertaining.

And I do agree Captain Marvel was dull. Brie's character was just so bland and even the bad guys were bland. Only part that was cool was when she went Super Saiyan mode and fucks up the Kree vessels in Earth's orbit and they run away. It was also fun seeing Coleson and Fury and the Skrull stuff, but that was about it.

All that aside, the trailer looks good. I was skeptical that this L-tier comic character whose whole schtick was 'does kung fu' would be anything compelling, but I like what I'm seeing.

This was the marvel movie I was most excited for when it was announced for this reason. I was hoping marvel would go full wuxia martial arts movie with their budget. First trailer did not disappoint

The fact that you think hating Last Jedi and Captain Marvel relies on politics rather than that they are both fucking garbage from start to finish is what makes you a stupid cunt.

There've been thousands of shit movies before those. And thousands of shit movies afterward.

Watching a disappointing movie is one thing. Probably happens fairly regularly if you're watching movies regularly.

Trying to desperately to stir up some kind of fake outrage over some alleged SJW conspiracies or fake narratives about how they allegedly failed commercially because some actor/director/gaffer/whatever dared to criticise the president are just laughable, kindergarden attempts at Breitbart-style fake-politics.

I enjoyed the Postman. I have always felt it was a very underrated movie.

That said, zero interest in seeing this in theaters. That's not a movie I feel requires the theater experience. I'll wait for it on Disney+.

thats where i'm at too, i'd like to see this movie but not in any real rush to see it in theaters. Should be interesting to see how it does, Black Widow will allow people to buy it for $30 at home which means within the first weekend a ton of comic nerds (like me) will just pirate it. Shang-Chi will have no such option, it'll be 3+ months before its on VOD.

Here are the current scheduled movies for Aug/Sept 2021

8/6 - Suicide Squad reboot (ALSO ON HBO MAX)
8/13 - Free Guy (Ryan Reynolds GTA game)
8/27 - Candyman
9/3 - Shang Chi, Reminiscence (Hugh Jackson, scifi, also on HBO Max)
9/10 - Malignant (horror, Conjuring creator, also on HBO Max)
9/17 - Venom 2, Boss Baby 2
9/24 - Many Saints of Newark - Sopranos prequel starring his son, also on HBO Max
10/1 - Dune (also on HBO Max?)

its honestly not a good 2 months for theaters

Captain Marvel was boring and bland, and Brie has the charisma of a potato.

But the biggest reason the movie was shit was the character's arc and the central message. "When men try to get you to control your emotions, they're making you weaker. Let your emotions flare up out of control and you'll be all powerful!"

I know, I know, silly comic book movie, but these things have themes rooted in the actual human experience. This movie explored the eternal difference between men and women and came to the most retarded conclusion possible.
