Anno 2070 is fucking hard.
It takes a totally different mindset from most building games, I'm finding. Never played any other Annos, but it -really- forces you to think about effective zoning right out the gate, as you can hamstring the fuck out of yourself via materials and general placement if you do stuff "wrong." I'm working through the main campaign now and basically sort of fucked myself on the second chapter, second mission. Because of all the shit you have to build in the first chapter, even spamming the shit out of the residences I am pulling in like -500 cashflow, right out the gate. Absolutely decimates my available cash in no time flat, and every time you pop up another depot, it goes further in the red, when you need like 4-5 on the island to actually get at materials to complete the main questline. Definitely not something you can rush, from what I can feel.

Anno 2070: Make sure you turn off auto-leveling for houses and only level up those you want to level up and once you are meeting their needs. You should be able to support even an inefficient supply chain so long as you are meeting the needs of the people. When houses level up they need more of their basic resources and if you aren't producing enough you will quickly find yourself losing money. Remember warehouses shouldn't be empty or full but somewhere in the middle.

Make sure you stack those 25%production modifiers on one island. 3 %25 fish production plus 10 fisheries means you don't need to fish anywhere else. Same with tea, etc.

Trade what you have excess of but not all of it. Set a limit. Building more basic homes should alway be more income as long as you have the excess production and don't let them upgrade. Set your houses in the yellow tax bracket when you arent trying to level them and in the green when you are. In the yellow they won't auto/upgrade (you should have turned this off anyway) but will still be happy. In the green they will be available for upgrade.

Since this is now about Anno 2070, I started the campaign and have only played a little way through it so far, but my main question is, did it explain somewhere what sort of things I want to look out for as far as placing houses and other junk? Or did I just miss it? What I mean is, you start on that single island, and it immediately says you need more houses, so plop that shit down yo. Thinking this is just a basic tutorial-type level, I plop those fuckers down sort of haphazardly, with roads all over the place. The next mission my shitty housing is all still in place, and the next, etc. so it seems I'll be keeping this crap setup for awhile. But I never saw anywhere that it gave suggestions about what to put where, or if putting a mine next to a smelter (probably getting names all fucked up) helps or hinders, or if having houses blocking off terrain (like ore deposits for example) is a bad idea, or if the fucking trees on the island will ever matter or are decoration...etc.

I haven't played further than like the 3rd or 4th mission and I had just assumed that would all be explained in due time, but if what Rezz is saying is true and Chapter 2 will keep my same setup, I'm probably fucked and I don't really want to play all those missions again just to configure shit properly. So did I miss something that explained all that to me, or at least gave me some hints?

It appears to only carry over within the chapter, thus far. Ie, chapter 1 buildings and layout don't carry over to chapter 2. And I completely agree: If there's a tutorial or something mission that I missed that explains how the game works in better detail, I would love to watch/play it. This game has RTS style objectives but SimCity style pacing, which throws me off. I build thinking "This is how I complete this objective!" when it immediately fucks me for doing other objectives right out the gate.

Started playing Tropico4. I don't know what I'm doing but on the first map it's literally impossible for me to fail. Game got boring when I realized I had no money concerns. I can only assume the first map gives you gratuitous amounts of ez-mode gameplay. Also having to use keytweak to remap my buttons so I can use wasd for map controls sucks

I'm not sure what the overall point of the game is, but already I'm far more interested than I am in SimCity. Hell, there really isn't a point to SimCity either, so if all this game wants me to do is increase my population, I guess it is basically the same thing.

I wish someone would incorporate that type of UI and graphics with a Dwarf Fortress/Gnomoria game. Gnomoria is light years ahead of DF in terms of graphics, but it still isn't anything spectacular. This game has a perfect look as far as I'm concerned.

some challenges do get difficult in modern DLC and you do lose because of five event limitation in some cases...

p.s. I am just gonna gloat and say that I got "Expert" achievement (max all trait).

Tropico4 seems to have the same issue that simcity does. All my cities are just big factories importing basic materials and exporting produced goods. I generally make weapons.

Logged into the game (sigh) today to give it another go after a week's break. First commercial property I click on has "Lots of customers!" as it's likes, and "Not enough customers!" as its dislike. Then I look at the traffic and watch an endless stream of magically created vehicles not actually belonging to any residents endlessly flood my streets in the most retarded paths possible. Then residents start bitching about the lack of shopping, despite living across the street from the commercial hub of the city, full of businesses that complain about the lack of shoppers. Then I closed the game.

It's like the Whose Line is it Anyway? of video games. Welcome to Sim City! Where the simulation is made up, and your efforts don't matter!

I just don't understand, were they lying the whole time saying that the simulations were now more realistic with actual agents representing each person and making decisions? I know its been harped on over and over but how did they possibly think they improved the simulation of this game over its predecessors?
