It does look like an awesome phone. I love what they have done with the camera. Rather than playing into the more mega-pixels = better pictures myth they have actually decreased the mega-pixels and just said "trust us, this thing takes better pictures than just about any phone on the market". Also see that there is a Verizon version as well as an unlocked 'developers version.' No HSPA+ on the developers so no-good on any T-Mobile based pre-paid plans (at least not until they roll out LTE).I'm buying the HTC One as soon as it goes on sale. Looks like a sweet phone.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/12/h...iew/#continuedNow for the moment of truth: in our rundown endurance test, in which we play an HD video on endless loop, the One made it through six and a half hours before all of its juice was sucked dry -- an average result.
To be fair, HTC's build quality of their most recent round of devices is second only to Apple, and with the One... it may just surpass it. I'll leave that until I see one in person.I'm kind of surprised you are going with an HTC phone with all the concerns you have expressed about battery life. All the other bells-and-whistles outweigh that factor for you?
One of the biggest reasons I'm in love with my Note 2. Battery life is amazing, really amazing and getting that with a huge screen was nearly impossible prior to the GS3 and Note 2.The thing about cellphone batteries these days is that they either got to hold for 8-10 hours or 36 hours. Anything in between is pointless since you're charging it overnight. 6.5h of hd video playback is pretty decent since they're watching that at 1920x1080 and that's a shitload of pixels.
Is the HTC going to fly under the Big Red flag? Locked into VZW thanks to an employee discount (25%) for a job I haven't worked for in almost 4 years. The HTC One is coming out in early April and the Samsung Galaxy will be announced tomorrow (3/14). I would take a look at those before I pulled the trigger on anything right now.
The HTC One has a better screen than the droid DNA and slightly better battery life (although still not great) and also it is made of machined aluminum and kind of awesome looking.
The S4 should be really nice as well if it's a worthy successor to the S3.
The exact opposite thing has been happening with my Nexus 4. For some unknown reason, despite me not changing anything, a Google Talk partial wakelock is murdering my battery life. I haven't installed any new apps or changed anything and I uninstalled Google Talk months ago.Speaking of battery life, all of the sudden my Nexus 4's battery life has seemingly doubled for no reason that I can find. No it's not from the last Android update, it was still pretty mediocre immediately after. But since last week I've noticed that if it's fully charged at 6am when I unplug it in the morning, through an average day's worth of usage, it'll still be 60-70% by 10pm that night. If I'm hardly using it other than occasionally turning it on to check an email or text, it's only using 2-3% per hour now, whereas before it seemed like it was more like 4-5%. On a full charge with my usage it would appear that I can go a full day to day and a half without charging now.
I have literally made no changes to anything in the past couple weeks. Odd.
