Not sure that I'd want to go much bigger than the Nexus 4 @ 4.7". With a couple pairs of my jeans that have shorter pockets it's damn near sticking out the top. But I guess 5" wouldn't make too much of a difference.
You would be surprised how much difference .3 inch can make. The One X is a bit taller than the N4 because of the buttons. It's only a couple mm difference at the most, but it went from not fitting in half my jeans (One X) to comfortably fitting in all my jeans (N4).

So that whole presentation was cheesy as fuck. Some really cool features though!

Not nearly as cool looking as the HTC One, but I'm sure it's a great phone. Some of the custom software is pretty silly but it sounds fun to play with. I would have to play with both to see how I felt about the software but I never had much of a problem with Sense on my old Droid Incredible.

It has an SD card slot which surprised me. I don't know whether the battery is removable but that would be nice as well since it's not on the HTC.

I'll stick with the HTC One. I much prefer a phone made of metal rather than plastic, and for me, the bigger screen is too big.

I see it still has the silly physical home button. A coworker just got a S3 a few weeks ago and asked me to help him setting some stuff up and that button pisses me off to no end. Having the software buttons has spoiled me I'm sure, but at least make the goddamn thing a capacitive button. A physical button is just another moving part waiting to fail.

Pretty much this. I've got the Epic 4G Touch GS2 with capacitive buttons in the screen glass. It's one big clean rectangle and looks classy as fuck. The GS3 and now GS4 physical home buttons totally turns me off from them, but I won't go the HTC route. FUCK HTC SENSE.

I don't mind the button because it's not something I can accidentally activate. On my Nexus 10 I accidentally hit the software buttons all the time. It's no big deal to me either way though.

Yeah, I just don't get why the need for the physical home button at all. I know I have said it several times, but the lack of a physical home button on the GNex is one of my favorite features. I think I will have to play with both the HTC One and the S4 before I decide. When is the HTC One come out?

After seeing the latest flagship phones from Samsung, Sony, and HTC, I'm happy that I decided to get a Nexus 4.

I think, going forwards, software is going to be the most important differentiator between phones. Since the Nexus 4 will likely get Key Lime Pie months before any of the other flagships, I think it'll end up being a better phone in the long run.

Certainly helps that it's half the price of the other flagship phones, too.

Yeah, I wouldn't want a physical home button either. I've grown so used to not having one on my Nexus 4 that when I use my Touch I find it fairly infuriating to hit the home button (which is also starting to shit out). microSD card slot and removable battery are two features that would be very nice to have on the Nexus 4, however.

I haven't really been keeping up on cell phone news/tech the last several months, but I'm trying to catch up as I'm purchasing a new phone soon.

Did anything ever come of the talk of the Nexus 4 actually having 4G built in but just disabled initially? I remember some articles hintng at it months ago, but I can't seem to find much follow up. Bascally, does the Nexus 4 run on 4G now, or is it still 3G like it was at launch?

Look around on Anandtech. I think it was possible initially for us Canucks to get it working because it worked on the bands that our providers have 4G on, but not in the US. And with an Android update later on they disabled it entirely. Something like that. I just did a Speedtest on mine, and it got 14mbps down and 2.5mbps up. I can't really see the need for much more than that, although it would be nice I guess.

The S3 has a microSD slot. 8 cores is kind of overkill.
The 8 cores are for their big.LITTLE fix for the power issues of ARM's cortex A15 design. Basically 4 of the cores are built using ARM's A7? architecture which is less powerful but much more efficient. Those 4 cores would be in use the majority of the time when performing less intensive tasks. The other 4 cores are built on the cortex A15 architecture. They are much more beastly but power draining as well, so theoretically would only kick in when more intensive processing tasks require it. The problem with this "solution" to power efficiency is that it eats up more space on the board and costs more to manufacture. Not ideal at all.
