Yeah, I think I'm going for a OnePlusOne for sure now. I was hesitant about a Phablet to begin with and the price tag is a finisher for me. Anyone have invites?
No one was buying any of the other Google Play versions of phones because the Nexus line was so cheap. When someone went to the Google Play store to buy a stock Android phone and their choices were an N5 for $349 or an S4 for $649, which do you think was selling better? Now that the Nexus phone will cost the same as the other manufacturers Play versions of their phones, they might sell more. How does this change in price help any of the manufacturers in the Google Play market? The customers will just buy a different phone similarly priced. I doubt there are many people hardup for Google Play editions of specific phones.
I've never understood the screen resolution and clarity wars at all phone levels. I get it for the highest level phones, but why not make a mid-level for those who want performance and battery life over screen resolution? I would seriously have to consider upgrading to a phone that had 3GB RAM, a huge battery, 32GB storage, and a 5.2" 720P screen that didn't suck up so much battery life. No one will make that fucking phone, though. They just want to have dick swinging contests with over-priced phones that are incremental upgrades. The other phones won't sell more, the Nexus 6 will just sell less(compared to the 5). All this does is give one more option to the incredibly tiny market segment that was already buying full price unlocked phones. Everyone else will just move on to the 1+1 or whatever Motorola's next mid-price offering is. I'll pay less for a lesser phone these days, cutting edge doesn't matter as much anymore, especially if they keep pressing ridiculous screen sizes.
Depends on the phone. N5 has a locked boot loader and they were able to unlock it.Depends on the carrier but most of the newer devices are getting locked down hard on the major carriers.
Root usually comes but if the boot loader is locked down no custom ROMs, custom kernels or recovery is possible. Everything is just a variant of stock which can suck.
Almost all phones come with a locked bootloader, except maybe the 1+1. Those can be as easy to unlock as using ADB to /fastboot oem unlock (Nexus devices), or something a bit more involved but doable. I think Kedwyn really means encrypted bootloaders that some manufacturers use, which are very difficult to bypass.Depends on the phone. N5 has a locked boot loader and they were able to unlock it.
I know you know that they aren't subsidizing it. You're paying for full price of that phone over 2 years, and then some. Some carriers are finally discounting their postpaid plans if you bring your own phone.I honestly don't mind any particular carriers BS proprietary apps if they are subsidizing the cost of my phone. Note 4 for $200? Put whatever ridiculous crap you want on it. But the trend now is everyone moving away from subsidies and if they think I'm going to pay full retail price for a phone AND let them put their bloatware on there, they are sorely mistaken. If I'm paying $700 for a damn phone, I want it to be a pure android experience
Encrypted, thanks, could not think of the word.Almost all phones come with a locked bootloader, except maybe the 1+1.
