There seems to be too much emphasis on making Caesar appear like a badass. I say appear because it does not seem remotely genuine or organic in a show that's already over-the-top. When the Romans breached the gate door with the ram, I half expected the "just deal with it" glasses to lower onto his face while he chided the former slaves to run. Here's hoping the spin-off is Crassus-heavy.
I was just assuming the next Starz series was going to "The Rise of Caesar", or something similar...With Crassus and Caesar vying against one another for Roman power.

I think they've nailed Caesar. They've made him badass without turning him into a super hero who can outsmart and outfight anyone. He almost failed in his attempt at taking the city, and he was outfought by Agron, who isn't even one of the greatest fighters of the slave army.

He isn't? Since when? Other than Spartacus, Gannicus and Crixus, who's left who could take Agron? Newvia? The blonde chic? His boyfriend? Come on.

I thought it was a stupid scene where they had Caesar dead to rights and then they heard the ram against the door and instead of cutting his throat and then high-tailing it like any reasonable person would have done, they just stand there and watch them beat the gate down and leave Caesar to do whatever he likes. Of course we know he's not going to die, but that was still lame.
Maybe they are just so sure of themselves. I mean they just killed dozens of Roman legionnaries without even one slave getting wounded.

He's not bad, but he's not one of the big ones. Spartacus, Gannicus, Crixus are the ones I'd consider "the best". Agron has always struck me as being second tier, with his Syrian boyfriend, the blonde German chick and some of the other named-but-no-one-really-knows-them slaves.

There hasn't been a Roman on the show yet who was even close to first tier combat ability. Spartacus, Gannicus, and Crixus really are practically "super men" when they fight. Remember the first episode with Spartacus charging into a horde of legionnaires? That's what I'm talking about. Considering Caesar is such a famous character I fully expected them to make him the Roman equivalent of Spartacus, Gannicus, and Crixus. The fact that he's more the Roman version of Agron is a lot more realistic and I like it.

Caesar was beaten in a 2v1 against agron and a dude who was slaughtering legionnaires. I thought Agron would die in that fight, but oh well.

Either way I've stopped caring about immersion. Every lead character should be a superhuman in spartacus, including the senators, bankers and generals.

Yeah I'm way past the point of caring about how realistic any of the relative things are in this show. I mean newvia is slaying professional soldiers that outweigh her by 50+ lbs and everyone seems to wade into 50 guys solo and come out with maybe 1 minor superficial wound. But it's glorious cheesy fun so it's fine.

I hope the backstabbing Spartacus got is superficial and he just walks it off.

I just watched this episode and holy fuck I want to watch mooooooore. I wish they hadn't said they would make the series historically accurate and retconned the entire idea, I want Spartacus to ruin Rome in its entirety. Fuaaaaaarck, I hope they make the spinoff as well, but it will be weird as you'll suddenly begin rooting for the bad guys

Second tier compared to three undefeated champions of the arena is still pretty damn good. Also need to consider that Caesar was just in a battle at the docks and then ran all the way from the docks to the gate, so was probably a bit winded. Historically, while Caesar was a great military leader and politician, I doubt he was all that great of a swordsman. But, I let that slide because that's how this show works. Gotta have those epic confrontations. Speaking of epic, awesome epic jumping in this episode. Way too many faceplants in the water though, ugh.

I rather wish Ceasar was super human Spartacus level. I'd have been happier if he had a real fight scene against the slave he was fooling and if it had taken those 3 to just fend him off. As it happens, I now hope Ceasar decides he needs to train so he can match the Spartacus crew and he sends to Rome for some gladiators to come train him so he can level up.

That is why you don't go full retard on good history: When writers are given free reign they more often than not, try to re-imagine/re-invent the story rather than retelling it. Spartacus' story is awesome without all the fanfare.

He killed the 3 free slaves pretty well.. I found it somewhat lamme cause the one that was (almost) beheaded was supposed to be a good fighter and got knocked over so...quickly.. But it would (or will) be a great fight: Spartacus Vs Caesar!
Finally Naevia got to her senses.. This whole season, her character is all about bitchin.. I love the scene where Crixus jumps to help Spartacus, once again they understand that they are brothers agains a common evil!
And that crassus is a clever one! He quickly connected the dots and got the trap!
Best ep of the season so far!

In history Sparatcus was thought to have died, but they never found his body.

So they could make ending that his Historcial but also leaves little room for some happy ending for all sides, as well as bloody, sorta like the Dark Knight rises, think that sparatcus is badly wounded about to die, but they sorta at end show maybe he comes full circle and some how the hot Rome Woman played by Anna from Cabin in the woods, maybe gets to him with bribes whatever they go to get his body he just is gone, none can find ala real life history as they never found his body.

best part of watching this series is waiting to hear the outcry regarding gay sex. not only in spartacus, but also in a game of thrones -- if s01 and s02 were an indicator, i cannot wait for s03's 1-gay-sex-scene-per-season. that should bring on the qq.
