Lol. We used to call Ezri Dax, "The round and pleasant Dax". It's completely the right word. She is justadorable.

Not even the symbiote would be safe, nawmea.

Was just reading over some of the Enterprise season 2 bluray bonus interviews and roundtable discussions. Pretty fascinating to hear them talk about all the influences that went into the show and how that turned it into crap. Was clear that Paramount executives really had no idea what they were doing** and furthermore did not want to have a prequel Star Trek at all.

While I personally detested the nature of the Xindi plotline because it felt like a massively important part of the founding of the Federation was something we just now were hearing about, I do admit that having a fully serialized season helped immensely with the show. The final season of the series, which at the time I myself barely watched, had some damn nice mult-episode arcs that felt much more like the series that everyone had been promised from the start. Especially the plans for Jeffrey Coombs character Shran to have become a series regular in the unproduced season 5 as an Andorian crewmember which naturally leads to their role as founding members of the Federation.

Im not saying the show was good by any means. Half the characters were just plain terrible, but by the end it did have some promise.

Nah, the show was good, it just lacked direction until s3. Had it been given the "full" 7 season run, I think people would be much happier with it than they are as it stands now, as they were finally finding their feet. All Star Trek series take time to get going, this one just took a little longer.

damn some old timey video, promos for babylon 5 a week before it started airing

Its okay in my book to pop in b5 every now and then on the ST thread... all B5 only threads divulge into pineing and the gnashing of theeth... I love me some B5 and I miss it so. Just like Fraiser the entire series always finds itself being rewatched in my household every few years.

I have only seen a few episodes of Enterprise, and that was mostly for the Vulcan chick to go through the sterilization process, like both dax's - could always use more of dat!

Yeah, that's about what you have to say. It varied a lot. S2 was generally awful. But it even varied episode to episode. The episodes where they didn't focus on the blindly stupid time travel bullshit were much better episodes than the ones where they did.

Enterprise didn't have quite enough time to finally get good. I think it was heading there. There were episodes here and there though where it showed that the writers DID understand Star Trek... just someone somewhere told them, "Time travel arc. Write that! It's what made Voyager GREAT!!!"

And yeah, they had bad characters. Malcom was kinda wtf. Whatever her name was, the asian on coms was sorta wtf. But they did have a good Captain / Tucker / Vulcan triangle going to echo the Kirk / Bones / Spock triangle in the original.

Yeah, the whole time traveler angle really fucked their early story lines up. Malcolm did indeed suck, terrible writing and sub par actor. We really got screwed out of more hot vulcan/human sex.

I wish they had just jumped straight into the mirror universe and done a whole season of that, that one episode right before the end was some badass shit. Was it DS9 or Enterprise where Worf was the goddamn Klingon Emperor?

The worst part about Enterprise was the title song. What the heck was that crap?
Then they tried to fix it in the final season by speeding it up, which although it made it go away quicker, also made it must worse!

I just finished rewatching it all also, and agree with what everyone says. Definitely had promise but the time travel shit screwed it up. I really like the 3 ep arcs they did in S4 that felt like mini movies.

I think they were pretty doomed from the start though. One of the core tenants of Star Trek is to boldly go where no one has gone before, and doing a prequel goes completely against that imo. Sure, it was all new stuff, but when you know where it all leads to and how it ends (time travel machinations apart which we all knew wouldn't have lasting changes), takes away any pretense of mystery or discovery.

That said, as a science fiction show, it's definitely enjoyable and worth a watch. Certainly no worse than Voyager.

Now to start on rewatching B5...
