We probably just like different things about Star Wars movies.

For example, you apparently like Gungans. Your ideal Star Wars movie is the only thing I can imagine that would be worse than all of Woolygimp's retarded theories coming true.

I'm perturbed by you ranking Phantom Menace above the other two prequels.

Yeah, I figured most people wouldn't agree there.

While I do find Jar Jar annoying, he doesn't totally detract from the overwhelming sense of adventure TPM created. I loved the Pod Racing stuff, and all the other things that added to the whimsical fantasy-like vibes Lucas was going for. That underwater fish escape scene, the court on Naboo, all super memorable and impactful for me. Loved Neeson & McGregor's Jedi performances too. Also Darth Maul was sick.

The only thing I didn't like about Gunguns was their linguistic pattern. The rest of it was pretty great conceptually. Loved their tech and look.

No it wasn't. That was the worst lightsaber fight out of all the movies. It was a bunch of over-choreographed dance fighting bullshit. I'd take Yoda's gummy bear fight with Dooku or the Ep 4 'sort of poking these things at each other' fight between Vader and Obi-Wan over the Obi-Wan/Maul fight.

You've gotta be smoking some serious shit to think the Ep4 old man fight was better than the Ep1 fight.

Come on.

Come on.

I hate excessively choreographed fight scenes that essentially amount to the characters dancing around and/or swinging their weapons at the other guy's weapons instead of trying to kill each other. That's why the Tower of Joy fight in the latest GoT season was so goddamn awful too. Herp derp, look at us using our superior numbers to surround you, then engaging you one at a time and swinging at your weapons so you can flail around with your vastly inferior fighting style and sort of look like a badass as we die like idiots. While the OT lightsaber fights may have essentially boiled down to two people using their mystical powers and laser swords as if they were armed with baseball bats trying to bludgeon each other to death, there was a great deal of emotion in the fights. You might almost say there was...poetry. The prequel fights were a bunch of mechanical martial arts, or Yoda's peerless Gummy Bear style.

The closest the prequels came to recreating the feel of the OT fights was the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight in Ep 3, and it was on track to being better than the Ep 6 Luke/Vader fight, until Anakin and Obi-Wan stepped back from each other to spend 10 seconds pointlessly spinning their lightsabers around themselves before stepping forward to fight again.

I loved them all, and even if TFA is last, it's still a very good Star Wars movie in my book. I suppose I put it last because it's only part of a story that's not finished yet, but the rating may change after the trilogy is complete.

Won't even bother ranking the prequels, those movies don't exist to me.

If Royal was going to come in here and give me an example of a Star Wars villain worse than Death Star Project Adminstrator who somehow found himself alone with a pea shooter at the top of a gi...err well lets just forget that part. As I was saying, if Royal was going to argue that point he'd probably come up with Darth Maul. Dude has like 3 boring lines in that movie then gets cut in half like a bitch.

There is almost none of the "menace" that Vader provided from the second he stepped onto the screen in ANH.

Shit, they made Maul a better character in the fucking Clone Wars.

People calling us trolls and we have retards in here saying Empire is below TFA or R1? I hope to fuck you people don't reproduce.

Earlier in the thread, someone pointed out that the character Jyn was the only one with an option for a second movie. They took that as evidence that they were considering letting her survive, but last night I heard she might show up in one of the other standalones. Anyone heard any credible rumors along those lines?

That would have been me, though someone else may have as well. I haven't heard any rumors about where she may show up at a later date. Now that we know she dies in R1 if I was a betting man I would put my money on the Boba Fett movie that I'm afraid they'll end up making. Him capturing her is how she ends up in the prison we find her in at the beginning of R1.

Yeah, I've heard people make the 'choreographed' observation before. I'm not sure I've ever bought that line of thought.

If a sword fight were going to be choreographed for lethal realism, it'd be over in seconds. Multi-minute, high tension duels just wouldn't be a thing. I do agree with you when you say the OT duels were much more successful at conveying raw emotion and revealing theme, but they were nowhere near as exciting or visually entertaining.

Man, different stroke for different folks and all I suppose. Kind of surprised, but maybe I shouldn't be, the same ppl blowing TFA give this movie a meh review.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie more than TFA. It wasn't perfect, but it just felt like star wars and gave me so much nostalgia with the original trilogy. Comparatively TFA may as well be an entirely different franchise to me, just did not have the same feel/continuity to me despite blatantly copying ANH. This movie didn't have any quite so glaring issues imo such as Finn not immediately getting mowed down by Kylo Ren or Rey using mind control with no force training whatsoever, sorry I just can't agree with those things with everything we know from Star Wars lore. I found TFA very meh, I've seen it just the one time in theaters and haven't seen it since. I could see myself watching this movie over and over finding things that I missed.

I loved how it felt like they were actually on alien planets. Aliens seemed missing to me in TFA. I felt like they could have used a little more variety in the bunch that decide to go, but then they did have, and showed on screen just as I was thinking that, an alien in the bunch. I loved all the easter eggs in this movie tying it in with the other movies. People talk about the flow of TFA and say it's amazing, but to me it just felt like a two hour action sequence. This movie had a much nicer flow, all the battles were really well done.

So yeah, seem to be in the minority here, but then again I seemed to be in the minority, at least on these boards, in thinking TFA was very meh.

Funny, the speech patterns are the only thing I even remotely liked about the gunguns.

Although for some reason I only just now realized their name is gun gun. Have no idea why I never noticed that before. I suspect we're spelling it wrong. But if that holds up it'll be the second of 2 things that I like about them.

No yoda vs dooku? How about all the jedis versus battle droids in ep2? Maybe that one doesn't count since it wasn't saber vs saber.
