Yeah saying they know Vader's "secret" is a stupid way to word it. Snoke and Kylo Ren were basically talking dark side philosophy as to why everything Palpatine had built ultimately failed; because Vader wanted to try and turn Luke rather than just kill him.
Palpatine and Vader both wanted to turn Luke. Palps wanted him to be his next apprentice and replace Vader. Vader wanted Luke as his dark side apprentice so he could replace Palps as the Master. The only reason to kill him was if he couldn't be turned

I think Palps wanted to turn Luke as well, because Vader was old hat and Luke was fresh blood.

He hoped to repeat this:

At Barnes & Nobles tonight and picked up the Visual Dictionary, and the art of Episode 7

The Dictionary has a shit ton of info in it including all planets, names of every ship etc

The art of The Force Awakens has a ton of ideas not in the movie. Their original plan was to have Luke very present in the first movie, and the other Sith Lord called "Jedi killer"

Since Kylo Ren isn't a Jedi, or Sith I wonder if we will see the second Sith Lord in the next movie. There is always two...

The other thing was their plan to make Luke battle his light and dark side constantly, but they pushed that off to Kylo it seems.

I always interpreted his reaction of "Yes ... yes" as being pleasantly surprised at the idea of turning him instead of just eliminating him.

Well, he says Young Skywalker must not become a Jedi. Then Vader says he could be turned. Mmmm, eliminating might not mean killing him. It's Vader who says He will join us or die, my master.

Qui-Gon Jinn, of all people i would have thought you would remember that guy!
Qui-Gon was the first to learn how to commune from the "netherrealm" of the Force, and taught Yoda how to go all ghosty, whom passed on that info to Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon's body did not vanish, but he also never appeared as a ghost.

Yeah it always felt to me like a back and forth between the two that settled on the mid-point of Luke will either turn to the dark side or be killed. And that was Palp's mistake. The one person left in the galaxy (still being ignorant of Leia at that point) who has the potential of creating a moral dilemma for your right hand man has got to go.

He actualy did apear as a FG in an episode of The Clone Wars which is one of the few things that is still Canon. His Ghost is everywhere if you count the EU, which we wont.

Anyways... I can't imagine they'd let Luke go that easily. He's the central hero of the first trilogy, even if he does fade-out in battle like Obiwan it would be have to be under much more meaningful circumstances or it would feel too cheap.

Yeah, shouldn't expect more from movies made three decades later with an unlimited budget and attempting top cater to ultra critical fans.

Yep.
The classic old SW argument. They are supposed to cater to the super geeks! Well, they disagree and are happy to cater to Joe six pack and more importantly, his kids. They will sell a lot of toys and general merchandise. Its everywhere. And now its even Disney, there's literally no reason left not to accept the fact of "who" these movies are made for. If its also enjoyable enough for the geeks to watch and talk about (see this thread, it is) then its a win-win.

All the talk about Kylo and I don't think anyone's mentioned that he looks nothing like Han OR Leia. How is Adam Driver supposed to be a believable casting choice???

Finished my viewing of eps 1-6, but was wondering how Luke suddenly became a Jedi between 5 and 6. It felt like there was no time skip between leaving Cloud City / getting a new arm at the end of 5 and then rescuing Han at Jabba's palace as the first act in 6. Luke just kinda shows up and is suddenly mind tricking everyone, deflecting blaster shots, etc. I know it's exaserbated by the fact that I watched them back to back, but it seemed off to me.

Also, Boba Fett sure dies like a bitch in RotJ. At least Jango Fett put up a fight against the Jedis / Obi Wan in 2.

All you guys talking about how bad Leia's face was in the film, led to me fixating on it during my second viewing. She has a huge fucking head on a tiny frame, almost midget status, especially in a couple of shots before they fly off to rescue Rey. The first couple of scenes I didn't notice her face freeze so bad, but then every scene after that was god awful. They deep six'd the wrong parent.

A better question is what reason would JJ Abrams/Disney have for making her do a different accent?
Well, they made Finn lose his accent, so somebody was thinking something. One of the theories is that Rey is a Kenobi since Obi-wan is the only other character that also had that accent.

I remember Jango getting rekt on the same level by Mace Dindu. He fucking decapitates him if I remember correctly. Something we won't be seeing in this new movies I'd wager because Disney.
