Maybe Ben is a translation from the ching-chong obi-wan.

Obi-wan always seemed more like it was supposed to be a vague kind of shaolin title anyway, where Ben was actually his given name.

Anything originating in ANH is marked by the fact that no one was thinking ahead to six more movies plus cartoons, side films and countless novelizations over the next few decades. They shoehorned a ton of the original monikers and concepts into a larger story later, the Ben/Obi-Wan thing is just another example.

It's simple. He was most commonly called BEN in the OT... even while Luke was freezing to death on Hoth, he didn't call him Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, he called out "Ben!". It wasn't until the prequels that his formal "Obi-wan" became the more common reference.

So if you wanted to stay truer to the original trilogy and keep the prequel dick-cancer AIDS offstage as much as possible, you'll limit references to "Obi-wan" and just call him Ben.

Unless you like dick-cancer and AIDS.

What's worse is that "Ben" wasn't even his name. It was a cover. If you really wanted to pay homage to the dude, name your kid Obi-Wan. It was clearly just fan service.
Yes, it was fan service. By staying consistent with the movies people actually hold nostalgic attachment to, they are providing a "service" to the "fans".

Well...some people here like dick-cancer and AIDS.

- Threepio's awkward line "Maybe you don't remember me because of my red arm". That seemedreallyout of place, especially since they don't even explain the red arm (saving that for a sequel or spinoff, I guess).
Well apparently theyaremaking a comicto address the back story of Threepio's red arm.

Which almost makes his comment seem like an ad. I mean, I guess it's fine if it ends up being a good story (and it probably will be), but they've got a license to print "canon" and they're clearly gonna use it.

I don't even think it would have bugged me if not for the fact that I don't even remember actually noticing the red arm untilafterhe said that line. If any attention had been drawn to it earlier (even implicitly), then his comment could have been interpreted as acknowledging my own curiosity, which is kind of funny (if not a bit fourth wally). Instead, he introduced it before it even registered visually (I admit it might have been visible in previous scenes and I just might not have noticed) and there was no payoff for having introduced it. I know someone mentioned the donor was in the background of one of the scenes, but I guess I missed that too. If there are multiple visual cues that tell a story and only become apparent after multiple viewings, then that'sawesomemoviemaking. But if it's an otherwise awkward line delivered just to generate interest in a***canon***comic side-story, that kind of bugs me.

Although I am totally nitpicking at this point. I really did love the movie.

You don't get to sell Star Wars to Disney, make Strange Magic, and then complain about Disney, George.

He can't stand the thought of Star Wars being popular and successful again without him completely in the driver's seat, much less almost totally uninvolved the way he is now.

Having to endure the prequels then witnessing his sour grapes now it's ... like poetry.

Yeah, pretty much.

Dude surrounds himself with gopher yesmen, takes away all of the restrictions that made him improvise in the past, and suddenly his product becomes vastly inferior.

I always wonder what the deal with Spielberg is. He knows damn well that Lucas is a hack directory now, I wonder what their relationship is like.

The worth-a-fuckness of Last Crusade is debatable. Plus its a Spielberg movie essentially.

Well if you're only counting movies he directed, then you're looking at Episode 4 as the last good movie he made. I'm assuming as a producer that he had a lotof input on the creative process on Indy, otherwise how the fuck do you explain Crystal Skull?
