They are pushing the Kinect because with it being optional nobody will buy it and therefore the games made for it will get very little funding because it's a small portion of that market exclusive to one console only so no multi platform either. The only chance they have of good games coming out for the Kinect is making it mandatory on every console made. The only way you get "innovation" is by forcing it.
I'm going to disagree with this statement and use a current gen device as an example of such.

The Wii had an optional accessory, the Wii Fit Balance Board. They released this as well as a few games for it, but it wasn't supported by the masses. Most people just got a Wii for Wii Sports and other worthless free games. That didn't stop them from making games for the Fit Board, though.

We had to wait like 6 months to even find one, they were leaving stores before they could put them on shelves. We even bought one (no fucking idea why).

It stopped them from making good games and lots of them. You are only proving my point. If it was something mandatory you might see a bunch of Fit Board games.

I think we can all agree that the history of video game consoles shows that add-on devices just simply don't get much support. If it's not packed in with the system, people don't bother making software for it. Everything from Turbografx CD, to Sega CD, Sega 32X, the XBOX 360 HD-CDROM, even to smaller accessories like Nintendo Power Pad, Sega Genesis Activator(floor sensor), and light guns for damn near every system post-NES. 3rd party software companies will rarely make a game that immediately excludes 90% or more of the user-base that doesn't own the addon.

I can see what Microsoft is trying to do with the Kinect. Their theory was that if EVERYONE has one, lots of companies will make games for it. And this may have been true had the Kinect been bundled in with every 360, but as of right now it's looking like the ol XBone is going to have the minority share of the market compared to the PS4, so once again 3rd party companies won't be producing software that cuts out the majority of the market being able to use it(PS4 owners).

In hindsight, every 360 owner owning a Kinect probably would have spurred some unique creations since they were the dominant system in the US for the entire last generation, but Microsoft has missed(or self-destructed) their window of opportunity with the Kinect now.

Good god.

When your family member accesses any of your games, they're placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour.
Oh, a timed demo? Where have I seen this before? On PSN? Why the hell couldn't you still do this? And why would you have to be related to anyone to get a fucking demo?

Another feature that we didn't speak out about was the fact we were building a natural social network with Xbox One in itself that didn't require gamers to open their laptops/tablets to post to their other friends nor did they need to wrestle with keyboard add-ons. Each Xbox Live account would have a full "home space" in which they could post their highest scores, show off their best Game DVR moments, what they've watched via Xbox TV and leave messages for others to read and respond to. Kinect 2.0 and Xbox One work together and has robust voice to text capabilities. The entire notion of communicating with friends you met online would have been natural and seamless. No reliance on Facebook, or Twitter (though those are optional for those who want them).
So you can't do this now?

I am glad that person (at least) still cant figure out that used games are only a problem if your game is a steaming pile of shit. I know I won't be turning in my copies of Last of Us or Bio Shock Infinite because they are a) great games b) something I would replay and c) worth rewarding the developer in $$$. Maybe I am a minority I have no idea.

I know my friend had his copy of Call of Duty Black Ops for over a year and played it all the time multi player because he found it fun and had no intention of turning it in. Its amazing what happens when a game is good. Not to mention Nintendo who hardly has any third party dev's at all has been doing fine for years even though you can get a used copy of Mario or Zelda they are typically still just as much because people do not turn those in very often.

Fairly late to the party but didn't see this shown anywhere:http://pastebin.com/TE1MWES2
Man, this is a hilarious bullshit cry fest. Fuck whoever this is for crying about used games. If your game is not a pile of shit it will sell well enough that used games do not hurt you. You have absolutely no right to fuck with our Right of First Sale just because your shit sucks and you can't make a profit off of it with your current shitty business practices. Stop spending more on marketing than you do on actually making the games to start with, asshole.

Make better games, stop crying, seriously:http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/13/442...e-better-games

Sounds like the "Family Plan" was actually a gigantic pile of dogshit. Limited used, timed-demos? That's not a family game share at all. That's a load of horse shit.

And yeah, PSN already does this limited demo.

You'd think this would be a time we'd be hearing the good things they're doing going forward. What kind of fucking sense does it make to cry about this shit after you've finally made everyone happy?

You think the train wreck has come to a stop but somehow they figure out ways to keep it going. It's actually starting to become impressive how disconnected some people are from reality.

The only part of that rant/confession that sounded good at all was the confirmation that the shared library would be available to any 10 people you wanted, no strings attached or family plans needed.

Too bad the "Family Plan" was a total farce. Why do we need a Family Plan for time-locked, limited use demos? Those are easily doable without one and people already do them.

Maybe 32X would've been better if they included all of the pieces you needed to install it on a Sega Genesis classic size model in the fucking box. Piece of shit goddamn company. It's ok, I didn't buy those extra pieces that you had to order through the mail (and take 6 weeks), I just molded some fucking clay underneath the 32x to cradle that shit in my Genesis. Fucking worthless goddamn system.

Once things get closer I can't wait to see how true it is that they are having to under clock the Xbox 180 due to an engineering issue and how much they'll have to under clock it to get things stable. Much less the general cluster fuck shape this software might be in given the rumors that things were a good 6 months behind.

Imagine another RROD or significant crashing issue because they were forced to rush to match sony? After all this it would be a nightmare.

Well, from what's been said, they basically have two options.

1) Lower the clocks to get more yield, making it even more underpowered than it is.

2) Just eat the cost on having a shitload of bad yields.

Manufacturing *should* already be in full swing and they're probably just going with option 2 and they probably won't have anywhere near the number of consoles available for sale that Sony will.
