I see Vanquish on that list, how was it? I played the demo but never followed through with release so was curious. That aside, their is some serious value there on that list for how much you pay monthly.
Fairly good, I think. I only put a little time into it and got side tracked by something I bought that came out. It reviewed fairly high and it's from Platinum Games, who have a track record that I love.

What's funny is that just running stuff on the PS4 (without huge optimizations) should be better than the Xbone due to the extra work they need to do to even get shit going on the Xbone's eSRAM while they can just run everything full throttle through the memory on the PS4 (the PS4's GDDR5 having latency to work around was debunked, due to how the hardware is setup and not having to deal with an extra memory controller). There's some great explanations on this in Cerny's videos. Sony considered the other way with hardwarefarsuperior to the Xbone's setup with1 TB/seDRAM (most recent Xbone numbers are 133 GB/s real world performance on their eDRAM, 196 GB/s "theoretical") and decided that even though youmightbe able do some cool shit down the road with optimizing for it, overall the very straight forward memory they went with would be better.

Really, some stuff should just run better without doing much, if any, extra work like loading, smoothness of animations, and you'll probably see shit where Xbone versions are running at 900p to the PS4's 1080p. Coupled with the upwards of 50% more powerful GPU there's potentially the ability to just turn on extra stuff in the engines or move sliders up like you would on a PC game for better hardware. None of that requires some significant amount of time and effort to make happen.

The "real" optimizations further down the line for the PS4 come from the custom work they did on the bus and GPU that lets you offload a ton of shit to the GPU's compute units. Cerny talked about how that's where people will be really pushing the PS4's extra power from a couple years down the line.
We'll see, it all depends on the developers. One could hope that the PS4 is so much more popular than the xbone that devs optimize for the PS4 and just cut corners to get it to run on the xbone.

You mean like the first couple years of this generation (but reversed for MS/Sony)? Yeah, that's probably what will happen. It's hilarious howbadthe memories of people in this thread are.

The lowest common denominator thing is a load of bunk and has not once been true in the history of console gaming. Also, no one seems to remembers how bad Wii versions of multiplatform games are.

Copy Pasting my post from the FC3 thread into here, because I think it's relevant to the next generation of game development.

Blood Dragon has sold over 500k, fuck yeah:http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...-in-sales.aspx

Let's hope Ubisoft does more shit like this and lets these guys make more crazy stand alone 15 dollar games. This game was clearly made by children of the 80s, for children of the 80s and it was awesome.

Also, I think it's a pretty good way to make money. Make your big games and then basically release $10-20 dollar mods of them done by a small team as little cool stand alone games. Profit. This also boosted their sales of Far Cry 3 itself. This is potentially amuchbetter model than DLC (though I love good DLC). I imagine it also gives your developers something to do in between big projects as well and you can get a lot more mileage out of all the money you dumped into a game's engine. It seems to me like it could be good way to boost revenue for AAA teams while curbing costs.

For reference, Far Cry 3 sold 4.5 million units as of February.
I think we will look back on Blood Dragon as one of the best ideas in gaming... Ever. Reusing an existing investment in a game, and turning it loose with a small team and tight time frame with some totally wacky ideas. Excellent!!!

By our math, the Instant Game Collection over the last year has provided subscribers with $1,043 in free games, more than 20 times the cost of a subscription for that year. Pretty impressive.
I've been using my PS3/PSN exclusively for the past few weeks, I figured I better get more comfortable with it in perpetration for next gen. While I LOVE the value of PS+, I really do find myself missing XBL for any type of multiplayer game. I just hope the PS4 OS is a vast improvement over the current XMB. I assume it will be.

Blood Dragon, of all games, being apotentialimportant stepping stone for gaming history isabsurdly hilarious. Hell, people thought the game was an April Fools joke. I truly do hope this model can spur some much needed relief and life into to the AAA revenue model to help cut down on costs without them having to find ways to dick over consumers. It could definitely be significant boon in conjunction with this next generation's games being far easier to develop for due to everyone being on similar architecture and Time to Triangle being massively cut down.

AAA devs need to adapt insome wayor budgets are just going to kill some of these studios who don't sell enough. Would also probably help if they found a way to not spend 50+ million just on marketing.

kudos

I don't understand how people can like the 360 dashboard better than XMB on PS3. It's so much cleaner and easier on PS3.

If you're in Vegas or going to be in Vegas on August 28th:http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...stop-expo.aspx

Video game retailer GameStop runs a yearly video game conference where game publishers from around the globe come and show off their games. Once a conference designed to educated GameStop employees, last year the company opened the show up to the public. This year's show will offer gamers even more incentive to come as it will be the first time that the public will be able to get their hands on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One before they go on sale this holiday.

This year's show will take place at The Sands Expo in Las Vegas, NV, and general admission tickets are $35

That used to easily be the best part of being in Gamestop management. Got to meet so many cool people in the industry. I still remember some dude named Brad McQuaid sitting at a little booth by himself trying desperately to give away beta test disks for some game named Everquest that no one had ever heard of in 1998. Sat around and talked with him for a good 30 minutes(I was a big UO player, so he told me all about how EQ was different/better, and just talked about RPGs in general) and took a couple of his disks home to try out and give to friends. Lot of cool chats with people in the industry like that over the years. FYI, Todd McFarlane is a prick(he was there as part of the Ultima Online 2 promotion one year, which never ended up seeing the light of day)

I was at all the conferences from 98-03, they were all in either Dallas or Nashville back then. They hadn't started going to Vegas yet like they do now...too bad :/ My favorite conference memory was going up to the free bar after dinner and grabbing like 4 beers for everyone at my table, I turn around and right behind me in line are the CEO and CFO at the time, Dick Fontaine and Dan DeMatteo...they looked at me, looked at all my beers, then looked at my nametag and just said "Hope you're having a good time". lol, I thought I was boned, they were kind of intimidating when you're just starting out your career at the age of 21.

DMK: Yeah, wish I had gotten in on it earlier than I did. There's a few on there that I'd love to have gotten in on that I wouldn't have bought otherwise or hand't bought yet (mostly PSN stuff). I can't wait to see what Sony does with it on the PS4. Also, the Euro list is even better.

Fucking Euros.
I'm really excited because I think they will take it too the next level. I think the crazy thing is. Sony is actually more keen to go the Digital route then MS they are just going about it the right way. I guarantee they have studied steam inside out and we will see PSN being very similar to Steam.

My biggest issue with the ps3 ui is when you are shopping on the store and you move from the left side to the game list and the header area suddenly takes a bunch of real estate.

Otherwise at first glance the metro looks better but I always had issues finding stuff there. Never on ps3 even after just buying it. They could pretty it up some maybe but it'd leave the fundamental design unchanged.

I got used to the xbox360 dashboard because of the infared port and infared remote. I tried using the ps3 media remote but the bluetooth "wow it's the future!" bullshit eats through batteries so fucking fast. Most of the gamers i know still watch netflix and hulu more than actually playing games on their console, the infared port sold the hell outta that shit. Change batteries once every 2 years, use it whenever you need the fucker, no bullshit charger or anything, that's just some convenient shit that sony didn't think about.
