Yeah, they got sold before the Jak and daxter games I think, seeing as those three games are the last ones Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin worked on.

They were bought in 2001 and Jak and Daxter is the first game they released after becoming part of the Sony corporation. Gavin and Rubin didn't leave until 2004, which is when Jak 3 was completed.

Also, motherfuckers, wtb new Jak and Daxter game. For seriously. Those are some of the best PlayStation Platformers ever made, if not the best.

^^^ Ding ding ding! Someone gets it. And guess why the above is?

Steam.
Actually, I'm going to say it's because MMO's are vastly popular for general gamers. MMO's keep people on computers, Steam is a neat toy, but it doesn't capture the hearts of millions.

Speaking of Rubins, here's an interview with Mark Rubin done by Metro:Call Of Duty: Ghosts Mark Rubin interview - 'there are things that we're not allowed to talk about' | Metro News

Unlike all the other so called "games journalists" that have been doing interviews, Metro doesn't pussy-foot around and actually fucking presses the guy instead of blowing PR fluff up his ass. Need to scroll down a bit for the good stuff though. Most of the gaming press have just been total pussies about pressing this shit due to fear of losing goodies from the big guys. But this is from an actual news outlet, so I guess the guy gets more leeway in what he's allowed to ask, even though Rubin can't actually answer any of it.

Cut to the good stuff:

GC:So, just finally, I have to ask: why does the PlayStation 4 version look so much better than the Xbox One? Is the resolution really the only difference?

MR:[laughs] Yep, it?s the only difference. The TVs are different on some of them, but? they both have their different rendering engines but they?re as close as possible. It really comes down to resolution. Xbox is upscaled 720, it?s outputting at 1080p but it?s upscaled from 720. Whereas PlayStation 4 is native 1080p. So that?s really the only graphical difference. But it is enough. Some people here are saying they don?t really notice a difference?

GC:Was that the guy with the white stick?

MR:[laugh] But yeah, the PS4 looks really good.

GC:Is the PC version still better?

MR:There?s actually some features that we?ve added to the PC that are definitively not on any other generation. We worked with Nvidia a lot with this, but we have a different form of anti-aliasing that?s really new and advanced ? that isn?t on current or next gen. We have a fur shader on the dog and on the wolves, they actually have a moving fur shader that works really well, for PC. And the third one, which I think is one of the coolest ones, is we?re using Nvidia?s APEX Turbulence tech to have smoke that actually wisps and waves and moves out of the way of objects.

GC:So is that something the new consoles can?t do or you just didn?t have time to implement it?

MR:No, it?s? well, you can do almost anything, almost. Tessellation can?t be done on current gen for the most part, because it?s a DirectX 11 feature, but we could still do it but you?d get a frame rate of 2. So that really becomes the reason we do everything: the reason the Xbox One is 720, the reason the PlayStation 4 is 1080 is we?re trying to make the game look as good as it possible can and making sure we maintain our 60 frames per second.

We maintain the latency and the speed and the things that people actually care about. Even if they won?t admit it, the thing that makes Call Of Duty popular is how it feels, because of those priorities.

GC:So the obvious assumption from all this is that the PlayStation 4 is definitely more powerful than the Xbox One, is that true?

MR:[acting very embarrassed] I can?t answer that.

GC:You can?t answer it on a technical level or because you?re being diplomatic?

MR:Can?t answer that.

GC:You can?t say whether you?re avoiding the question for diplomatic reasons?

MR:[embarrassed] I just can?t say anything?

[Even the attending PR guy is looking embarrassed by this point]

PR guy:It?s very hard for us to be?

GC:Are the console manufacturers leaning on you to avoid these sort of questions?

MR:[unsure - speaking to PR guy] I don?t know if that?

MR:[even more embarrassed to us] Yeah, there?s things that we? We sign NDAs with the first parties [i.e. Microsoft and Sony - GC] and there are things that we?re not allowed to talk about.

GC:So when John Carmack and Shinji Mikami say the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are almost identical, is that something you could agree with?

MR:Hmm? I would say that?s a bit inaccurate but I wouldn?t be able to tell you any detail of why that?s inaccurate.

GC:For diplomatic reasons?

MR:Yes.

GC:Okay, that?s fine. I think we can all read between those lines. But that?s absurd, how can they not except any journalist, any reasonable journalist, not to ask that question? It?s what everyone wants to know.

MR:[still feeling very awkward] The key thing is we try to focus people away from that sort of thing and try to focus them on the fact that the game is fun no matter what platform it?s on.

GC:Do you think with the next game you make there will there be such an obvious disparity between the two formats?

MR:Unknown? But over time? If you look at Call Of Duty 2 compared to COD 4 there?s a massive graphic difference, they look very different. So I think we?ll get better, yes.

GC:But will that same proportional gap always be there?

MR:Don?t know. Until we get there I honestly don?t know. To be not diplomatic or anything [laughs] we really don?t know. We?ve done as much as we can in the time we have to get where we?re at. Will they close the gap? Will they go off in the opposite direction? Who knows? But for this game it is what it is.

GC:Do you think everyone else will have these same problems? All these other cross-generational games that are out at launch?

MR:Well, I think they?ve already said they are haven?t they? Battlefield 4 is 720 on Xbox One and I think 900 on PS4? Titanfall has said they?re 720? So we?re not the first to say we?re 720 on the Xbox One.

GC:No, no. So they?re all obviously hitting the same wall.

MR:Yeah, so you?re reading that correctly in that it?s not specifically us doing something villainous. It?s a thing where all of us have to work at getting better at developing for both consoles. And that?s the fun part. I always use the analogy that the first game on a new console is always like an awkward first date, but once you know a lot more about each other it?s a lot better.

GC:Okay that?s great, thanks very much for your time.

MR:Not at all, that was interesting.

Agreed. Early adopting is part of the fun of being a tech-nerd. I don't feel sheepish in the least for buying a PS4 on release. What am I saving exactly by waiting 3 years? Maybe 100 bucks at the most? Ut is sounding so fucking salty. Relax, dude. I'll let you watch my live-stream.
I'm not really sure why it's such a big deal to people. I'm sure the games will be better in a couple years and there will be a price drop, but so what? For a lot of people it's worth the extra $100-$200 to play the games now instead of 3 years from now.

Yep, for me it's all about being in the moment and having a brand new toy. There's no benefit to waiting. Playing games on release and being part of the community that is playing them is huge. No one gives a fuck about playing games years later unless you're doing it for Nostalgia or it's something you happened to miss (or you're doing some Event thing).

Think I found what this is referring to

Sony to charge monthly fee for multiplayer games on PS4 - Nikkei - Yahoo Finance

Price of PS+ going up to 10 dollars a month. No idea on the yearly price if that will change or not.
Good find. I knew I posted that here for a reason

So I assume you need a memory card to take advantage of the ps+ games for the vita?
Yep, and what Soy said, you need one period really. It's a big tacked on extra cost and absolute bullshit due to what they charge for it.

I have an 8 GB one and if you use your Vita regularly with the PS+ stuff you have to super micromanage it. I'm definitely going to be shopping for a 32 GB one come Black Friday.

Speaking of the Vita:Frostegater Wololo.net

Hacked Custom Firmware released, only usable if you haven't updated your Vita to 3.00 as that update fixes the exploit that it takes advantage of. Euro version only atm, US version will be released soon.

Wouldn't use it and already updated mine to 3.00 anyways since I plan on using it with my PS4, but I'm sure some people might be interested.

Major German Retailer (Spielegrotte.de) claims they are getting450 times as many PS4sin a mail they sent out:German etailer complains about low Xbox One supply, Sony delivers 450x more PS4s - NeoGAF

Full translation of the mail (rough draft):NeoGAF - View Single Post - German etailer complains about low Xbox One supply, Sony delivers 450x more PS4s

Dear customers who preordered XBones,

MS has finally told us the amount [they'll be sending to us], and why they waited so long with that number is becoming clear, because it's an insult and slap in the face of any XBone fan. Not kidding, we'll be getting just enough consoles to cover the first 35 seconds (no joke!) of preorders.

We're crestfallen, we're used to MS's ignorance and lack of cooperation, but this is taking things to a whole new level. You can find information on how to cancelations and orders at the end of this mail.

Just a quick explanation, since we're not a big concern we usually communicate with resalers/distributors from which we get our Microsoft stock. We were aware of the demand quite early on, so we tried to get into contact with MS before gamescom, amounting to 5 mails (which definitely got delivered) - but there was no answer or reaction from MS. It's a major embarassment for a worldwide enterprise like MS. We also tried reaching them through our resalers, who repeatedly handed their MS contacts our detailed preorder lists, as early as one week after sales started. MS knew at all times that we had three digits worth of preorders within the first five minutes alone. Apparently they weren't interested. If it's not Amazon, it's not worth their time.

We're extremely sorry, but like we said we've tried to establish contact even before gamescom began, and we didn't even get a rejection or refusal, but were simply ignored. It's preposterous that they gave us these tiny amounts (which are completely negligible considering the bigger picture) only three weeks before release. It's cowardice, and an embarassment.

Oh, but it doesn't stop there. Not only will we only be able to cover the first 35 seconds of preorders, no, more than half of the consoles won't be the Day One Editions...

We've tried everything and were left out in the rain with zero information. Sony proved that it doesn't have to be this way, we told them our considerable preorder numbers, we were acknowledged and they told us our amount early on. We'll be getting roughly 450 times as many consoles as from MS, despite preorder numbers being roughly the same.

We're baffled, and helpless. Our entire team will of course be relinquishing their own preorders and will wait for now, otherwise we wouldn't even be able to cover 35 seconds. We can't stress enough how sorry we are, and we understand anyone that gets angry, but please direct your hatred towards the culprits, namely MS. Maybe we can show MS just how many people are affected and that not everyone buys from megacompanies, I can only suggest you call MS support and complain, citing where you want to buy and when you preordered. I just know they'll try to deflect the blame and tell you that we lied to you, please have them give you the name of the customer rep so we can take action. Other specialist dealers are getting the same disastrous amounts/numbers from MS, which is why I'm urging my competitors and their customers to do the same, to show that these mega companies do not own the world. We've seen that MS needs to be reminded that their vision does not necessarily overlap with the rest of humanity, as seen with Always Online.

(the rest deals with how the customers will be able to cancel their orders and stuff...)

I find that 450x number curious. either that's a complete mistranslation and it's supposed to be 45:1 or even 4.5:1, or they're literally getting single-digit Xboxes to thousands of PS4s(which is possible, but really bad for Microsoft if true)

Why do you find it difficult? Plug into your pc, copy the game/saves over. Delete it off the vita and download new stuff, etc.

A long time ago in the thread I think it was stated that you can't just have a subscription to PS+ to get the game, you actually have to have a Playstation and download them during the offering period. And then whether you play it or not you always have access to it? Or is it just always there once it is introduced? Just trying to find out if it is worth picking up the year of PS+ without actually purchasing the PS4 until say February / March.... eh, I'll go find a FAQ on the Sony site.
