My go-to sandwich at Subway used to be the Spicy Italian toasted. Then one day I saw how many calories that fucking thing has and my pant size started to make sense. I find their toasted sandwiches to be pretty good, you know, for 5 bucks.

Subways meat (especially their chicken) has got worse and worse over the years. I used to be a chicken breast or chicken bacon ranch guy but I don't even know if what they serve is actual chicken anymore.

I don't think I have ever gotten a sandwich toasted at Subway since they started doing it. Only thing I ever get from Subway now is the tuna, anything else I get at Capriotti's.
You are better off not getting anything toasted at Subway, their shit bread isn't made for it, it just burns and is garbage. Then again if you want a decent Sub hit up Publix they shit on Subway in both price and quality.

The vast majority of their meat is made from "turkey based meat"

The salami? turkey based meat
The ham? turkey based meat
The balogna? turkey based meat

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the chicken was turkey

Yeah, Publix is definitely one of the best things about living in FL. Now that you can order online and pick-up, it's even better.

Subway is fucking gross these days. The only time I ever eat it is when I'm in my wife's hometown which is 2 horse and the only options are Subway, Arbys and McD.

I believe the normal ham is turkey based but the black forest ham (although not from Black Forest Germany ... shocking I know) is actual ham. I don't know if they even offer that option anymore, though. The rule of thumb for Subway is to never go. Jimmy John's is like 1000x better and just as cheap.

I just go to D'angelo if I want a sub on the cheap and fast, that's really all we have around here. Subway is always nasty.

We had a couple D'angelo's open around town like 20 years ago, and then they all went out of business and closed up within a year or two. I always thought they were damn good. Back 20 years ago, the only other sub chain around was Subway, and they were a LOT better than Subway. I'm not sure how they would compare nowadays with Quiznos, Firehouse, and the dozens of other sandwich chains, but they were legit back in the day.

They're good, nothing incredible or anything - but if you want a steak and cheese sub and there's nothing else around it's pretty good. There are a few around here that are inside of a Papa Gino's, so you can usually gorge yourself on subs and pizza.

We just don't have any great sub shops in the area.

I haven't eaten at a Subway in probably 20 years. I've never been big on cold subs and theirs were always so sub-par that I instinctively took a pass on their hot subs when they started selling them. The only time I'd get a cold sub was if it was from some locally owned place or a Schlotsky's (god I miss their bread), but there hasn't been one of those around here for almost 10 years. When I do go to the local deli, ain't no cold sub gonna beat out a grilled Rueben for my money.

As far as cold cuts go (I agree with you warm is better) Jimmy John's does do a pretty good job for an inexpensive price. Possibly because a third of the sandwich is mayo.

I used to go to Subway from time to time but my last few visits I was very unsatisfied with both the sandwich I got and the price I paid. One thing I miss about California was going to Togo's for hot pastrami sandwiches so when Subway introduced the "big hot pastrami" I couldn't get there fast enough but then I paid $11 for a sandwich that looked like this:

and had about 5 paper-thin pieces of pastrami (which was probably turkey based) microwaved to the point that you couldn't bite through it anymore and I wanted to burn the place down.

Luckily for me we have enough delis around there's no point in ever going to Subway or Blimpie. My go to is a typically ham, salami, prosciuttini, capicola, provolone, oil, vinegar, oregano, l/t/s/p with some cherry peppers. Mortadella, sopressata, and prosciutto is another combo I like, usually with mozz instead of provolone tho.

Cherry peppers on a deli sammie is so damn good.

Then why don't you go to Arby's? Way better option.

I personally would rather go to Arby's but my wife tends to eat much healthier than I do so Subway is an easier choice for her. In general I try not to discourage her from eating healthy so I just suck it up and go to Subway with her.

The only thing I'll eat at Subway nowadays is the tuna on honey oat bread. If I want a cold sandwich I'd rather have Jimmy Johns. Since we've had a Firehouse though, I don't really go to other sub places.

So I'm chipotle superfan #1, but a burrito and chips and a drink for $6 Moe's? Thank you. Thank you very much.

The biggest thing I like about Subway is that they load it up with veggies. I can never get as many veggies at Potbelly, Firehouse, etc. as I get at Subway. Even asking for extra such-and-such veggies at other places results in barely a little more. I go to Subway if I want a low-ish calorie, filling meal because I can get a turkey sub and slam every god damn veggie they have on it. My subway subs are so loaded with veggies that when I unwrap them the bread folds out flat and I have to force it back into sandwich shape.
