Personally I think Snowden should receive the judgement of his peers on American soil by a (PUBLIC) American court. .
Unless of course he arrives on American soil and ends up mysteriously dead/disappeared/lobotomized. I don't think the smart move is returning to the US at this point.

Personally I think Snowden should receive the judgement of his peers on American soil by a (PUBLIC) American court. He has undeniably committed a crime and needs to task for that. But living for 15 years in habitual paranoia in exile in some shithole third world country seems entirely out of proportion as well. He did break his bond -- and if the cause was truly just then he should be content with the responsibility of his action. THAT would serve to make the man himself more heroic.
My only problem with this is there is no way in hell he would ever get a fair trial here.

My guess is that he's leaking it piecemeal to get coverage going longer than 24-72 hours.

He basically ruined his entire life over this, might as well to get the maximum effect from it
He is stringing it out to maximize his popularity. It's bullshit and anyone who isn't enamored with him knows it.

Lol at him taking the Booz job just to get closer to the NSA.

Look dude, I'm saying it takes more than "broke an unjust law" to become an Real American Hero. You can say that what Snowden did is justifiable and make that argument -- it's a very good argument to have. You can't make the argument that the oath-breaking by itself is right. Hell, Weaver is more of a "True American Hero" than Snowden is. You don't even give a fuck about Snowden yourself, you give a fuck about the ideal of transparency that he has temporarily become associated with. Stop conflating the man and the ideal if you want him to be more than a Folk Hero.

The law he broke isn't unjust, though. Disclosure of classified material by cleared personnel is a serious crime. And believe that they will hammer him to drive home the point to everyone else who has a clearance that just because you don't agree with the law doesn't mean you can abandon the commitments you have made.

And lawl at these motherfuckers talking about secret criminal courts and being tortured with rats and lobotomized and shit. There isn't an eye-rolling smiley ironic enough to truly symbolize how dumb that shit is. If they get him, he goes to court then he goes to jail. Just like people before him.

When they're talking about charging him with espionage, man... it's not so unreal. That rhetoric is completely the fuck out of control.

That's a heavy charge that still carries the death penalty. They haven't seriously charged a man with that since the damn 50's. Not even that guy in Los Alamos.

Edit: I do agree, I think in a sane world he gets extradited he goes into custody for a year or two while the case is prepared in federal court, he gets a trial if he insists on one but most likely two huge teams of lawyers haggle over exactly how long he should spend in jail and it winds up being 2-3 years past how long he's already been in custody. But dude, you've got John Kerry making direct public statements about this telling Russia to "do the right thing" and you've got Senators (and I'm sure generals) going absolutely apeshit. It's already not sane.

Dude, they've charged literally dozens of people with espionage since the 50s. If you look at the wikipedia entry for the law it lists many of them. It is just another crime. If they didn't send Aldrich Ames off to MINILOV to have his face eaten by rats then I doubt they will do it with Snowden.

He has admitted that he took the job JUST to get information to steal ... if that isn't espionage I don't know man.

espionage is exactly what the government does to every person in America.

"Espionage or spying involves a government or individual obtaining information considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information."

I hope they execute him for espionage. If what was said is true in that Hong Kong newspaper he is a piece of fucking shit and it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't cross his mind to sell out to another nation.

Hopefully from all of this companies and the government will stop giving so much preference to people with clearances. No fucking reason in hell a high school and army dropout security guard should have ever been put into a position like that.

I just saw that Snowden reached out to a film company in January. That seems somewhat strange.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...blower-profile

This article says the film maker put him in touch with Glenn Greenwald. Personally I couldn't care less what his motivations were. If he wanted to be fucking famous, now he's got it. At least he's done something to actually deserve fame good or bad, unlike half the fucktards weighing in on Snowden on the news.Because we really needed to know Donald Trump's thoughts on this.

You just reminded me of that John Oliver segment last night on the Daily Show making fun of the media speculating where Snowden is lol

Since he couldn't have known exactly what information he was going to steal before he worked there, I think the answer to that question is kind of obvious.

swim in his information like scrooge mcduck swimming through a pile of gold coins? cause he really financially benefitted from all this you know what I mean. Maybe snowden is trying to trade it for putins superbowl ring.

what was the "grave damage" snowden caused? the existance of a program will cause grave damage? is that because when rats know they are being watched rats behave differently?

You have no idea what deals he is making, who he is talking to, or what he is planning. We know he made some really good money while he was planning all of this, and he apparently isn't homeless and starving so he is getting some support somewhere.
