We went through the same shit revenly. Wife was upgrading from a car to SUV. Told her she could have whatever she wanted. Thankfully she's a little frugal. She settled on a very nice Jeep Grand Cherokee for $45-$47. It had basically all the technology, etc, as SUVs costing $20-30 more. The only tech she liked that it didn't have was the 360' cameras.

I'm frustrated by this too. I want a high end SUV but when you get the decent tech packages they are almost $90 (for example build out a nice Range Rover Sport HSE.) May as well get a fucking G wagon but out of principal its retarded to spend that on a vehicle. I'm about to say fuck it and get a Ford F-150 Platinum.
The new jeep grand Cherokees are nice - but you are paying some $$ for the actual capabilities of a jeep and the niceness of a "crossover" while still maintaining the actual abilities that most crossovers pass on. I loved my GC that I had, but I also loved my Murano - looking at 2 specced out GC vs Murano the GC gets quickly out of control on price once you start moving up in the packages while the Murano settles in at mid 30's fully loaded and nigh infinity levels of interior etc.

I've always been leery of Dyson vacuums, they seemed ridiculously overpriced.

Yeah, I read that last year. Bought a high rated Hoover at that dudes recommendation(and Amazon reviews), and both my wife and I hate it. Was going to just stick with it since I spend a good chunk of change on it (think it was around $250 at the time), but when I saw this Dyson for about 60% off, I decided to give it a chance, and it at the very least, WAY better than the Hoover upright so far.

The brands that guy actually recommends the most are RIDICULOUS.

Riccar($1500 upright vacuums)
Tandem Air Uprights - Uprights

Miele(all $600+)
Vacuum Cleaners

Sebo(all$700+)
Best Vacuum Cleaner | SEBO AUTOMATIC X, World's Best Vacuum Cleaner!

I'm just not willing to pay that much for a "good" vacuum. Something I use once or twice per week, for 15-20 minutes at a time. I'm not spending $1000+ on that. I also wasn't willing to spend $300-$500 on a Dyson, but it seems like a champ so far for $150.

Holy shit $700+ for a vacuum? I didn't even know that was a thing.

I'm clearly an uncouth savage: I use a $30 shopvac and finish the job with a $20 wetjet. Laminate flooring everywhere for the win.

Also don't forget the bagged upkeep, miele bags are around 4bucks each, if you own a pet it's stupid to go bagged. I've had my dyson dc07 probably 13years? recently i called in, and support said it was the first US model on the market, obviously she couldn't do shit for me.

Like many other ppl b4 my dyson i had the usual hoovers and shit, also back then 10 years ago bagless "Vortex" was pretty much a revolution. I've replaced various parts over the years, like 2 hoses (there is a mini hose on the bottom) and the hose wand, after years of use, it just gets worn down, plunk down 20bucks for a new hose. My motor was shot so i bought a used motor for 20bucks, i looked up a video on youtube, and within an hour i removed/installed the motor. It was either this or buy a new dyson, and yea i would have if the easy to change motor wasn't an option.

btw the first thing that will be clogged in your dyson will be the brush-head, my wife has long hair and it just wraps around the brush head like a spool of twine. i have a pair of scissors dedicated to just cutting up this hair. (cuz i don't want the scissors doing anything else, that'd be nasty)

I'm suprised these ultra high end vacuums really took off at a time when carpet usage in a house has got to be at all time low, well since the advent of carpet. Sure there always rainbow vacuums but I always assumed it was more pyramid scheme than vacuums. For $700 I would do with a regular vacuum and replace the carpet in X number of years.

Pretty excited about this thing. My second major in college was photography, but this was back in the film days. I'm looking forward to seeing how they look digitized.

Post how you like it. I have a lot of color slides from my astrophotography days. I actually liked it better than the digital stuff but you can only get slides developed in 1 or 2 places now and Fuji and Kodak stopped selling them.

I had my Dyson for like 10 yrs now. My wife got a deal on ours, it was like $500 or some shit. And they do get clogged. The little venturi things get clogged all to hell after a few years. I dont know if they corrected this problem on the newer models, but on mine I have to clean it every 2-3 yrs it seems. Its a bit of a pain in the ass to do because you feel like you are breaking it (There are videos on youtube on how to take it apart) and you need one of those #5 or #15 ( I forget, its pretty small torx head though) torx long screwdrivers.

Last time I took mine apart was this summer. I noticed it did not have the suction it usually does. So I took it apart and sure enough like four out of the six, eight? or however many venturi things were clogged with shit like hair, carpet fibers and then followed by a shit ton of dust. I get a 5 gal bucket, get some hot soapy water and soak all the parts after cleaning them out with a screwdriver. Then let them all air dry in the sun before putting it all back together again.

The first time I cleaned it though only one of the venturi things were open, the rest were all clogged. This was at a time we had our dog, so it really smelled like shit when I cleaned it.

And let me tell you, after doing this, its like a new vacuum again. It works so well, that its even hard to push because of all the suction you are again getting. One sign that your dyson is clogged will be a smell when you are vacuuming. It smells like smelly old socks.

Here is what it looks like...

I was skeptical of the Dyson as well but my wife really wanted one so I bought it. I tested it by vacuuming my house first with some cheapo vacuum, then some ancient Kirby or something that was like $1000 50 years ago that is supposed to be a badass vacuum but weighs nearly as much as I do, then finally the Dyson. Even after two vacuumings with the other vacuums the Dyson still picked up nearly 1/2 of a container worth of stuff in my average-sized living room. That was enough to sell me.

Now I wasn't about to go buy 16 vacuums and set up some sort of bracketed-vacuum-tourney-challenge or invite some shady door-to-door salesmen in to show me how their vacuum compares while simultaneously casing my house, so there may be better options out there that I'm not aware of, but our Dyson does a pretty good job of keeping up with two dogs, two long-haired cats, and a very liberal indoor footwear policy.

Yeah Dyson does a good job. It looks like it is expired now but I just bought a cordless hand-held version for my car and spot-vacuum jobs. Was only $85 (refurb.) If you get them on sale it is a good price and a nice discount they're good machines. But if you get it for full price maybe not. The build quality isn't the highest which I believe is the biggest gripe.

Shrug, after owning quite a few vacuums in my life I bought a Dyson about nine years ago and it's still going like a tank. Can't believe that vacuum repair dude recommended Hoover as every Hoover product I've owned since they were bought out by the Chinese has sucked ass.

Vacuum dude is just passionate about his stuff. I get it but that doesn't mean he's grounded in the real world. Like I wear my stupidly expensive jeans so if someone asked me about jeans you'd get a 10,000 word essay and I'd recommend a pair of $350 jeans. But in the real world no one gives a fuck. They'll buy their $40 Levi's and call it a day and that'll work for them and the vast majority of people. So you're getting a horribly biased opinion but the guy is so informed and smart about it that it makes the position difficult to argue other than "You're a delusional idiot I just want a fucking vacuum."
