Isn't there a story about some Christian priest abusing underage boys, like every week?

Basically, 12 year old boys are to Christians what goats are to Muslims at this point.

Yeah Portman is right around a year older than me so I had a bit of a crush on her after The Professional, which is kind of gross to think about these days knowing what we do about Luc Besson.

Yeh, the director of that movie had a thing with a 13 year old apparently and the movie was sorta based on the thing. And by thing I mean he was after a 13 year old, I don't know if it was requited or not.

The influence religion has on politics right now is probably the lowest it has been in US history.

Depends on how you classify that. I would agree that in a general sense, if you looked at the overall % of population where that was a strong influence, then that would be more the case in the past when the country was more religious as a whole. JFK had the whole issue where people thought that because he was Catholic, he would be taking orders from the Pope or some shit. But even now, it would still be unusual if a presidential candidate was an open atheist or some other non-christian religion.

But ever since the successful Southern Push strategy of the late 70s/early 80s that began to work hard to entice the much more conservative and religious voters of that region, politics on the right has become so intertwined with that region and religion that it is harder to tell where one stops and the other begins. A lot of the Evangelical elements that push things also do so much more subtlety now - the whole Mastercard anti-porn stance is pretty much influenced by that, for example.

Anyways, getting back on track since this started with Pratt, I do wonder how much GoTG will actually be in this. The trailer gives me the feeling that it will probably be like the first 10 minutes, then Thor goes off on his own/with Korgg

his RL jailbait wife was in the movie playing a hooker

Oh, is that what it was. Jebus.

Also apparently the age of consent in France is 15, which seems a bit on the low side but isn't too surprising.

Dr. Strange comes out in a few weeks in May and Thor 4 comes out in July so in theory they should flow together but I dunno, all these new MCU movies (outside Spidey) feel utterly disconnected from each other with zero build up towards anything.

Yeah, the new Marvel movies feel like DC movies. They're all just sorta doing their own thing and there's no overarching story going on. This is probably DC's time to strike, honestly, but first they have to get their heads out of their asses. Supposedly DC is looking for a universe-runner to retool the DCCU and give it a vision/timeline, AKA what they should have done seven years ago. So I'm cautiously optimistic that DC will get their act together and present Marvel with a real competition over this next decade, especially considering how weak Phase 4 is (or is it Phase 5 now? Hell if I know).

Natalie looks surprisingly toned up.

She's pretty fucking hot in this shot. I'm not even attracted to modern Portman either under normal circumstances either.

Not sure how keen I am on Jane "inexplicably" being able to wield the hammer, which strikes me as "we don't know why this is happening so just roll with it". I also hope this doesn't mean they're phasing out regular Thor.

I expect this movie to be full of Female Thor doing everything Thor does, only better, while being way smarter and more competent.

Chris Pratt really did long enough to become the villain after everyone loved him. I can’t even think of anything offensive he said. Or does everyone just hate him for divorcing Anna Faris?

He literally said nothing. They hate him because he didn't participate in any of the woke liberal messaging that the other Marvel stars got together and did a couple years ago, so everyone assumed he's a republican (which I'm pretty sure he is, yes). Also he goes to a church that apparently had some issue with anti-gay pastors or something and never "spoke out" or "disavowed" his own church so he must support their worst person/aspect/whatever.

That's right, he's hated as if he said/did something, specifically for NOT actually saying/doing things.

It's total bullfuckery at its finest.

christians don't have priests. you're thinking catholics. and the catholic church has some serious issues, not to say that other denominations/religions don't, just that the catholic church probably has more of them. also, to be fair, i know plenty of catholics who are great people. don't conflate the people with the institution

that was the general consensus when jane was thor in the comics. people were worried it was going to be super girl power-y and thor would play second fiddle to her, but that's not really what happened.

my assumption on what's happening is that thor goes off exploring the galaxy as a pacifist, all the while Gorr is going around killing gods left and right. for some reason jane goes to visit new asgard and sees the remnants of mjolnir. i'm wondering if, even though it's been shattered people still can't pick it up without being worthy. mjolnir decides that jane is worthy and she's able to pick it up and become thor because the hammer knows there needs to be a thor to defend the 9 realms and the real thor is definitely not in the 9 realms, basically absconding his responsibilities.

in the comics, jane has cancer. when she's thor it makes her immune to cancer, but when she shifts back to jane she gets significantly worse so we all knew from the beginning that she had a shelf life. i'm assuming it'll be something similar, that she's no longer thor by the time the credits roll, but who knows

So Catholics aren't Christians? They are not doing the Jesus thing? Is that like the Sunni/Shia thing with Muslims, where they hate each other, despite having the same prophet?

Catholic beliefs and Protestant/Baptists beliefs are very very different and it's all down to interpretation of scripture. That's the TL;DR version. Talos is Catholic. I'm Evangelical. We agree on so much and yet are very different.

But Catholics are Christians and do the Jesus thing but you're right in that it's like Sunni/Shia. Only... we don't hate each other and commit violence like they do (anymore). I love Catholics and Catholics (I think) love us... but each side think the other is wrong on interpretation.

If you're genuinely interested in detail, the atheist/theist thread is the best place to discuss. :)

think of it this way. all catholics are christian. not all christians are catholics. they don't even have the same bible.

Soo.. What do yall think is the story of how Jane gets to become Thor?

I think she hasn't even been in the Thor story since Thor 2, Endgame was old footage right?

So that's a lot to cover, if it's our universe Jane that somehow gets the power, muscles, and learns to fight, lol. It has to be a multiverse jane right?

I only give a fuck when they try to force their millennia old doctrines on everyone through government and manipulation of business.

Yeah, we certainly wouldn't want things such as "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," "turn the other cheek," ""judge not lest ye be judged," and "forgive your brother his trespasses seventy times seven" seeping into our perfect culture.

It has to be a multiverse thing because the only other person worthy of the hammer was Cap and Jane's character has never focused on how upright and moral she is. That, or she scienced a way to reforge the hammer and pick it up.

Yeah, when I think of insidious doctrines being forced on everyone through government and manipulation of business, it's totally Christianity that comes to mind these days.

jane foster thor is a literal deux ex machina, there was absolutely no plausible reason to make her worthy, so she just is, thats it. she's not the greatest nurse in the world, mjolnir didn't feel sorry for her cuz she got cancer, worthiness didn't pass to her cuz she was the closest to thor.

nope, she's just worthy
