Gotta admit, as gripping as the first episode of season 1 was, I was disappointed with this season's first episode. The haunting dialogue that made the first season so god damn awesome is nowhere to be found. It's like the show went from Shakespeare to Chris Morgan.
Some people don't want something they can sip and savor, they just want to pound it down without thought.

After reading the response to the first episode maybe a_skeleton_03 was right about needing two threads. Except we'd have:
1. Discussion without comparisons to the first season.
2. The shit thread.

I really hope this community doesn't try to compare everything to the very excellent first season throughout this entire season.

My guess for the posts is that they are markers for soil samples in a polluted area. It looked like a big square of posts, so does not really fit for railroad markings.

"The Bohemian club! Did you say Bohemian club? That's where all those rich Republicans go up and stand naked against redwood trees, right? I've never been to the Bohemian club but you oughta go. It'd be good for you. You'd get some fresh air." -President Bill Clinton to a heckler

It's north of San Francisco, in Monte Rio, so not close at all.

There are lumpers and splitters, and you, sir, are a splitter.

I don't think you need to worry too much about comparisons to the first season. If the show doesn't redeem itself this week, there won't be an audience paying attention.

I kind of think another organization killed Casper in a power play to squeeze VV out . That or VV found out Casper was going to back out or is working for someone else too.

The only thing I want to compare to the first season is the quality of tits and ass. Daddario is very tough to top, and that young girl that wanted to get fucked in the ass was pretty nice as well.

If season 2 can deliver on an equal or greater quality then that's all that matters to me.

Why? Honest question. I don't understand how many people rupture their anal fissure because people will compare two things the creators of a show obvious expect and on some level must want compared otherwise they wouldn't have made a second season, but a different show.

Is it because comparing the objective quality of the first season makes this season opener look like a mess? That's understandable, as it's hard to gain that personal validation from posting "I liked it" on the internet and having some other random nerd post "I liked it too" so you can both assume the show is great.

Or because people will go on all sorts of mystical tangents because of all the strange, seemingly random shit the show creators left around to lead us in that direction? Well, maybe they shouldn't put giant crow heads in the seat of someone we don't know driving a corpse of someone we don't know to some place we don't know for reasons we don't know so all we have to go on is a giant bird head, which naturally sends us in a mystical direction. Basically, it's not the fault of the viewer they put in so much conspiracy bait. Odds that giant bird head has shit-all to do with anything at all?

Really, why are people so rustled about comparisons to the first?

This forum goes full retard with stuff like this. Everything turns into Lost mysteries for some people.
The amount of posts for a single episode of this show is insane. I was amazed at just how many pages there had been since last weekend (didn't get a chance to watch this until last night). There's also a lot of shitposting. I feel like a lot of you "watch" the show while you're fucking off on the internet and so you have no clue what's going on.

I liked that the closing scene was at Point Mugu. Spent the last month there for work (which is why I didn't have a chance to watch until yesterday).

I don't really care that much, but I think simple people use the first season as a gold standard and any differences have to overcome some inertia before they can be looked upon positively. To me the two seasons stand alone and I think people look through S2 through the lens of S1 to their own disadvantage.

I get not picking up on a couple things the first viewing but it seems like people had the show playing in the backround or were talking the entire time

My cynical mind assumed they were marking a mass grave site...but it more likely is to do with the land on the rail project.

Probably posted but you could see contamination when it showed the posts
What do you think the odds are that the contamination is a scam? That VV's cartel gives some fake reports about the contamination, buys the land at bargain, "removes" the contamination (possibly with federal subsidy) which dramatically increases the price?

I thought it was Viagra, inferring that his character was gay maybe? What normal dude would take 1/2 hour to get it up for that sexy bitch?
I think it probably has more to due with some sort of PTSD from his service or however he got those scars. Same driving force behind his little bike ride at the end.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case at all, it makes sense.

I'm assuming they are talking about the mythical "high speed rail" the hippie fucks here in California have been pushing for years, and somehow got enough idiots to vote for a few years ago. It is literally something like a $100 billion + project which has almost zero chance of ever actually being completed, but everyone probably voted for it to assuage their carbon footprint guilt or something, since this would theoretically cut down the number of drivers, pollution, etc. If it ever does get completed, it is expected to cost many times the projected amount as well. Which is perfect for people looking to make money, legit businessmen or not. I have to imagine organized crime is all over this.

I realize most probably don't care, but I think it is pretty neat that they are using something that is quite possibly actually happening right this second, just with different players. And maybe fewer bird heads.

On a different note, it was clearly supposed to be Viagra (otherwise it wouldn't be bright fucking blue), and I assumed it was because he is fucked up in the head, along the lines of what Tantrik said, not because he's gay.

Yeah I think it's because their season 1 chemistry was kinda catchy and had a stellar development : MattMcC was on a highly redeemable path (Lincoln Lawyer, Killer Joe, et) after doing shitty romcoms, Woody Harrelson was also kind of back from the shitty acting stuff tier (besides Reddit fiasco, he was kinda great in Rampart) and Cary Fukunaga was a nobody. True Detective season 1 was great IMO because both McC and Harrelson characters and actors interacted nice, and Fukunaga direction's pinnacle was that now famous 6 mins single take sequence shot.

True Detective season 2 had a harsh legacy : trying to top that McC-Harrelson-Fukunaga chemistry with other actors, another story / setup, and another director. Farrell is a irregular actor (bad in Alexander / Miami Vice, good in In Bruges and some other movies), Vaughn is how we all know it, McAdams was great in A Most Wanted Man, questionable in other roles and Taylor Kitsch is known for Disney's John Carter fiasco and Battleship. Reddemable actors doing irredemable characters ?

I do like TD s2 CCC setup (California, Corruption, Cops) and I'm eager to see how they're gonna develop it. Pilot IMO was very promising. Let's see tomorrow...
