This should die down in a couple of episodes. By then the season will have become its own thing, with its own tone and pace and we'll have a better grasp of the storylines and characters.

Have you ever drank before? We don't know how long Velcoro was sleeping off his drunk at the bar, a 2 or 3 hour nap alone can work wonders. Plus, people tend to "sober up" a bit when shit goes down. That, and he looked fucking terrible when he showed up. Like maybe he was drunk or something. Weird, I know.

Yeah, you are right. It is totally crazy that cops could get away with beating people up or that their victims would be afraid to come forward for fear of further reprisals.

Does the guy have a clue who he is? also he has the mob and an insanely crazy corrupt station. Marty in season was beating kids in Jail cells, busting into houses and ruffing people up and no one was throwing a fit then

Trying to cleverly unmask the killer right after the first episode of True Detective is like old people watching "Murder She Wrote" or "Matlock", spotting that dodgy nervous guy and calling him the perp before anyone else. I think it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
