I quit smoking cigs for good about 6 months ago, but have now added 20 pounds in the process and I either need to lose it or buy a whole new warddrobe. I've started going to the gym but would like an app to measure my caloric intake, could have sworn I saw one listed here recently. Instead I just see a multi page arguement over whether a guy is a quack or not. Looking for an Android app, please recommend.

MyFitnessPal is like to go to app for calorie counting and weight tracking. Makes shit soooooo much easier then keeping a food log notebook.

Yeah, I haven't used it in a few years, but when I first started it really helped me out in getting better at estimating calories. It's a pain to setup at first, but once you input most of the foods you eat regularly, it becomes really fast. At that point you're basically just having to input a few things a week that are unusual (although, good luck with eating out).

The best part, looking back at it now, is the macro breakdowns. That shit is invaluable.

I used myfitnesspal for 6 months or so. Between that, my program, and eating foods I make myself I know my rough caloric intake without the app, though I'm going to use it again just to see if I get surprised. For gym apps I used gym buddy, but it does look like yet update it so switched to FitnessFast. It works well and seems like the devs are interested in making it better. I like the auto rest times and workout/history features, and of course the fact it is easy to use in the gym.

Thanks!

And no set plan. I just cut all the junk out for the most part, eat smaller and more sensibly only go out to eat maybe once or twice a month instead of almost every day at work like I used to.

Up until a few weeks ago I was running but it's too cold for that now, once my benefits kick in at work I'll get a gym membership since they pay for it and I'll start that back up again.

I'll be honest, I never honestly thought I'd make it half as far as I have.

Well keep it up. It's results like that keep me (and certainly others) motivated. You are now a role model.

Looks like someone's eating a lot of eggs or crustaceans. Remember, if you set your goal as weight loss in that app, you're supposed to eat the suggested target, not further under eat it.

Congrats Tarrant, you're doing great. And I think your "diet" plan is really the best way to go, at least for the time being.

I wish I could min/max my nutrition like with the My Fitness Pal app and really get into it. I'm doing well so I'm not stressing it, but whenever I think about the fact that I could be doing better it fucking burns away at the gamer inside me.

Honestly, as long as you stick with it ("it" being anything) for longer than 6 months, you've already beaten out 95% of the population.

Thanks man! I still do 1 day a week where I eat whatever the hell I want and as much as I want. I usually don't go too overboard with it but I keep that one day as a reward. (though I wont drink soda) It's been working well, I really gotta hit a gym soon though as its getting slower and slower to shed a pound.

I used to use My fitnes Pal but I found when I obsessed over that stuff it made sticking to my diet harder. The less I think about things the easier it was for me to stick to said eating plan. I'm not sure why it felt that way, but it did. -shrug-

I've been doing this since the beginning of June I believe, went to see my family in the beginning of July and gained everything back I lost and been going strong ever since I got back 10 days after that.

I do the same thing. Usually only for one meal. This past Saturday, I had a steak, fries, some lobster queso dip thing, popcorn, mini-Butterfingers, a Big Red (I found them in a store here and was like HELL YEAH), and like 5 beers. But that was pretty extreme for me even for a "cheat" evening, I rarely get date nights with my wife so we went out and then went to see Thor so fuck it. I'm kicking ass every day, so I view it as treating myself. Normally though it is more restrained, like I will have a little ice cream or a couple of beers or some really rich meal I have been looking forward to making. This weekend: fuckin risotto with parmesan cheese and cream.

I find planning ahead for something like that helps me stay strong, especially in the office when you are confronted with neverending sweets and bullshit, and even supportive people are like "You can have just one..." and you try to tell them no dude, I obviously can't, did you not see my big fat ass a few months ago? But no one ever listens. So I plan ahead a meal that really appeals to me and I work hard in the interim to really try and earn it.

What sucks even more than the office Beelzebubs is when your mom sends you a whole fucking pie, Fed Ex.

Thanks mom. I told you I was trying to shed this siamese twin. That whole pie is going to help.
