I'm with you man. I'd rather die young than deprive myself of beer.

I edited my post to include some reading, probably as you were typing that response.
So, essentially blood sugar levels and hunger. I think the hunger part is education based, and we've discussed this before. I don't eat based on hunger, so it isn't a concern for me. I realize that white bread will make me hungry again later and that's part of the price I pay. Whole wheat bread sucks, I'd rather not have bread at all than eat whole wheat.

As for blood sugar levels, I think I've mentioned this before, but I will admit I'm not fully educated on the dangers of moderate blood sugar spikes. MyFitnessPal recommends for me ~300g of carbs, 72g of fat, and 81g of protein. I always hit the protein, come close on carbs and fat. I've been going to the gym regularly and eating like this for quite a while and I haven't had any deleterious health effects. I'll fully admit that doesn't mean I won't later. But I'm of the opinion if I have to severely limit my carbs that much just to stave off the small chance of diabetes when I'm 50 or whatever...eh, just kill me now.

I honestly think this is going overboard and hyper focusing on any negative health effects carbs might have. Did you know that driving your car for 2 hours in gridlock will raise your chance of cancer because of all the carcinogens you're breathing in? The previous statement is ridiculous. But I FEEL(no scientific validation here) people are acting the same way towards casual carb consumption.

You're misreading that. It's not saying carbs are bad. It's saying specific refined carbs are (white flour, sugar, white pasta, etc). There are also links to insulin shock and hypoglycemia (which eating those refined carbs can and do cause) on heart disease.

Hypoglycemia and Cardiovascular Risks

Carbohydrates aren't bad for you and I doubt anyone would ever tell you that eating vegetables and other good carbs (whole wheat) are bad for you. They aren't, and your body needs them to function properly.

Also, don't be so quick to dismiss the effects refined carbs have on hunger. There has been extensive research and studies done on just that. It can't really be waved off as an opinion. You may be able to control yourself while eating those foods, and many people are just like you. But there are an overwhelming number of people who can't and by cutting out those foods they can significantly increase their chances of successfully losing weight and managing a more healthy lifestyle. The blood sugar spikes are what cause that hunger. Think of refined carbohydrates as quick, dirty, inefficient energy. Your body can get at it to burn it for energy quickly (sugar rush) but then you crash even quicker and require more energy to sustain yourself.

I probably thought the same way back when I was a teenager and for some reason decided to make the switch. Now though, I think white bread is fucking terrible. In fact, I specifically look for whole grain hotdog and hamburger buns. Otherwise it just tastes bad to me. I'd say eventually you'd get used to it.

I hate to agree with this hillbilly, but freshly baked white bread is one of life's greatest pleasures. Anyone who hates it is clearly a horrible human being.

Why would you bake a plain white bread? If you're gonna go to the trouble of making bread from scratch make a delicious whole grain bread. 7 and 12 grain breads are so far superior to plain old white bread in every sense of the word.

Also, how often do you get to eat freshly baked bread?

Or live near a bakery. I used to get a fresh loaf of white bread every Saturday morning and it was amazing. Id also buy a block of cheese and box of juice and that would be my breakfast.

Even if now in my shitty suburban chain-store wasteland I can easily find freshly baked bread. It isnt at all rare.

You realize just about every grocery store makes fresh bread daily right? Even the bread Wal-Mart makes is fucking delicious when they first make it. Frys, Safeway, Sprouts etc. all bake bread daily. And I do make my own bread as well, have a batch of pizza dough in the fridge rising right now.

I don't know what's made me laugh more this week; the guy attempting to discredit Myfitnesspal by limiting himself to 1300 calories a day (didn't realise anyone used Myfitnesspal for anything other than logging their food rofl) or Elurin posting about how fat he got BUT ITS OK BECAUSE HIS LIFTS WENT UP, ummm ever heard of a clean bulk rofl

What's wrong with wonder bread? It makes the best PB+J
Mostly what's in it. Real bread shouldn't have such a long shelf life. If your bread can last a month, its probably a good idea to check the ingredients to see what you're really eating.
