I've actually got surprising mass. I'm definitely the biggest guy at the ultras I go to, not that that's saying much. For reference I'm 5"10, 185 lbs and in the morning I can see my abs.

If someone isn't hungry why should they force themselves to eat?
Well I can only bulk at 4000+ calories. You think I want to eat 4000 calories a fucking day of chicken and rice? No, I have to forcefeed this shit down if I want to make any significant progress not only muscularly but in terms of raw numbers.

The other option is just eating burgers and shit all day and getting to 4000 that way...

Or you just think you can only bulk at 4000+ calories a day. Are you a 6'7" giant?

6'0, but the scale doesn't lie man. I originally bulked at 3600 and it scale didn't move for three weeks. Bumped up to 4000 and we got some movement, currently at 4200 and will probably finish the month at 4400 before cutting.

There is no way a healthy adult male, who is exercising regularly, can be satisfied with sub 1500 calories. There is no way that sub 1500 is sufficient energy to fuel gym activity

Regarding bulking: I can play with TDEE calculators like anyone else, but like Itlan said, at the end of the day... its all about that moving average of scale weight. The issue is that we're estimating our activity level, which is another way of referring to "how is my body utilizing calories". I think a lot of people purposely choose to err on the side of "too much fat gain" rather than leaving potential LBM gain on the table.

That being said, I don't think eating 3k+ calories of "good food" is tough at all. And its even easier when you make some room for some sugars and starches, which do minimal harm to a man beasting his way through a big gym routine. Body knows whats up with simple sugars.

I agree with ossoi for once, I'm 5"10 155ish and 2k a day makes me feel like I'm going to die.

Oh you mean the more you burn the more you want to eat? No kidding, thanks for opening my eyes.

The people who are talking about eating 1600 calories a day are people who do very minimal to no exercise at all... let's keep it in context please.

Everybody is different. My roommate and I are similar sizes and frames, I'm slightly over 6'3'' and 190-195, he is about 6'2'' 210-215. Even when our activity levels are similar I can eat way more and unhealthier without gaining fat. When I am working out even a few times a week I have to go into the mid to high 3000s just to maintain weight. He is much lower on the calorie scale. A uniform rule does not exist. If you don't feel hungry and aren't malnourished, then there is nothing wrong with the amount of calories you are eating (unless you have objectives to lose or gain weight, then, obviously, you have to be more exact in your calories for your particular body).

Continuing my weight loss, I am using MyFitnessPal and at 5'10" and 220lb it has me at a ~1750 calorie a day intake. I add the calories I burn to keep the defecit steady. I honestly couldn't fathom what 3k+ calories a day would be like. The only way I could see myself doing it (healthy) is calorie dense foods like nuts.

I'm almost positive this has been discussed a few times before, but it's incredibly easy to eat 3k+ of healthy calories a day. All you have to do is include stuff like nuts, avocados, and whole milk into your diet and your daily calorie intake will skyrocket. It sounds like a lot of food (and it is, really) if you're thinking about eating 3k+ calories of grilled chicken and vegetables, but when you branch into other foods it becomes quite easy to reach your goal, and possibly even overeat.

I also think it's silly to tell people that they're eating too much or too little. As has been said, if you're feeling good, succeeding in your workouts/physical activities, and you're happy with how you look, eat whatever amount of calories will keep you that way. Trying to eat more just because some jokers on a forum tell you you're not eating enough is silly. Everyone's body is different.

The only problem with that is that works on day 1 and early on in your diet change. But those foods are high in fat which creates the calorie density and fat tends to sate hunger very well. Especially when you aren't eating a lot of carbs with it. So it becomes harder and harder to hit that calorie mark even with things like nuts because you just aren't hungry at all.

It'll throw your macros off too bruhs. Too much fat isn't a good thing.

As for how to fathom eating 3000+ calories a day, today I've had so far:

3 cups of whole milk
2 scoops of whey protein
2 cups dry of rolled oats
2 bananas
8 oz of chicken
10 oz of pasta
one tablespoon of butter
4 servings of grated cheese

It's about 2650 calories for the day so far. Need to figure out what I'm going to do about dinner, it's shitty out and I don't feel like going food shopping. Five guys or chipotle maybe.

I thought zaide was saying he's an ultra runner and ran like 4miles a day? Maybe I'm confusing people but that seems crazy low for an active person.

I think you're right about that actually. Though a couple other people were talking about they don't do much and are generally sedentary.

I do run a lot and have been mostly at 1300 calories a day for the past six days. It's definitely more difficult on this diet but it's more a matter of will power unless you're shooting for a really good time. I can still run five miles in about 44 minutes right now. Part of it is making sure I time my one carb heavy meal like 20 minutes before my runs. I mostly end up fasting for the first 8 hours of a day and then eat like a normal person for the rest of it. Seems to work out.

I'm no scientist but running heavily on a 1300 calorie per day diet sounds like a surefire way to lose muscle mass -- I'm absolutely certain that I could pose this as a question to r/running or any similiar community and people would be like: ("Lol, no, eat a healthy 2000 calories a day minimum.")

3k calories is easy -nuts, seeds, avocado are all calorie dense and not filling (unless you eat a whole pack of nuts at once, but sprinkling some in a salad at every meal is not)

As for eating too little calories - I'm a big fan ofInstagramthe results he gets from giving people an individual meal plan and telling them to do HIIT for 4 weeks, then HIIT and GVT for another 4 weeks are ridiculous. Most of his customers are women who have tried the usual low calorie diets. He gets them eating more calories, which fuels their exercise and builds lean muscle..So when guys on this thread say theyre eating sub 1500, then there's no way that's going to beneficial. You'll put the weight back on as soon as you start eating like an actual male again

Look at this picture - typical example of the results he gets and the theory behind his methodsInstagram

"Before starting cycle one I felt so bloated and tired and couldn't wait to get started. It wasn't as hard as I thought and loved the meals I could eat and they were so tasty. It didn't take long for my energy levels to kick in and the difference in my training level was unreal.

Here's another happy client ditching the diets and learning to fuel her body correctly with real food and lots of it. Don't waste your time or energy on low calorie fad diets this year. They are depressing, they are restrictive and unsustainable. You will go round and round in circles with your fat loss doing low calorie diets. Focus on eating real food, fuel your body with fats, protein and carbohydrates and train hard and you'll start to see results!"
