It doesn't work all the time, it's just so I don't have to explain to every other person that yes, despite not liking most fruits/vegetables I'll eat something with tomato sauce or eat a pierogie. It's also not some moral/belief system based decision. It's the fact that I'm a picky eater and I find these things to be unpalatable.

I understand where Zaide is coming from. I grew up with little fruit and almost no veggies in my diet. Mostly meats and pasta/breads. The only veggie I ate growing up was corn. Combine that with my previous diet of McDonalds twice a day, when I tried veggies for the first time to try and eat healthy I couldn't stomach them. They tasted disgusting. One year eating clean balanced meals, I've been slowly trying veggies that I've hated before and have loved every single one of them. Also my girlfriend cooks veggies to taste god damn delicious instead of boiling them into mush like my family did.

That's what I was trying to get at with the British comment. It's especially common in American households with British ancestry to just boil the shit out of their vegetables. The greener they are, the worse the result will be. Besides being unpalatable mush, the overcooking will break down useful nutrients into foul smelling/tasting components.

Baking vegetables instead of boiling them can be quite pleasing, given it's the right vegetable. Obviously baked spinach doesn't work so well, but broccoli and asparagus bake very well if you have the time.

Especially asparagus. Night and day in taste and texture from boiled/steamed asparagus to roasted/baked asparagus.

My friend's wife keeps dumping bags of kale off on me from her weekly farmer's basket thingy, and I've discovered the wonderfulness that are kale chips. It makes a great snack, especially when you're craving something salty.

All vegetables, no matter how disgusting you might think they are, can be prepared in a way that makes them tasty.

Picky eaters are one of my pet peeves, because there is usually some silly/bullshit reason for not liking something. The worst are the picky eaters who say they don't like something without even trying it! In almost all cases of picky eaters I've experienced, it's just a matter of a) correct preparation and b) getting used to the taste and/or texture.

I'm a pretty picky eater (won't eat pickles, lamb, pork, etc.) but, to actually say you won't eat absolutely ANY vegetables unless it's processed? What the fuck kind of family did you grow up in? Do they all have high blood pressure? DiabEETus? How many supplements do you even take on a daily basis?

If you're raised by wolves, you're gonna think you're a wolf. If your family only cooked veggies into mush and they tasted like shit, you're gonna think veggies are gross.

Yes, yes. Learned behavior. However, he's an adult and not even attempting to unlearn said behavior. Whenever I try a new food, my husband lets me pee in his butt.

I like steamed carrots and broccoli. I find the baked broccoli disgusting but that might be because it's always been prepared wrong.

Carrots are probably the worst vegetable on earth. They taste the same no matter how you cook them. Unless they've been soaking in a stew for 2 hours or pickled/candied. Otherwise carrots suck.

Edited to make it more clear that I meant pickled/candied carrots are delicious.

Raw carrots + hummus = delicious or just steamed carrots. All carrots are good unless they are thinly sliced like in coleslaw.

Oh carrots lathered in hummus are good? Why don't you tell me how delicious all the other veggies you dip in sauces and various other flavor maskers taste? How do carrots drenched in ranch dressing taste? I bet you can't even really taste the carrot anymore! Delicious!

Why is ranch terrible for you? Because it has fat? If you say it's because of the dairy I'd agree with you but you better be prepared to feel the wrath of the bulkers!

Fiber, some protein and like 1/4 the calories per serving. Plus ranch is gross and hummus is delicious, I put chipotle hummus on my grilled cheese when I feel fancy.
