I'm doing the keto thing to support my wife who has to do it for medical reasons right now. Doesn't hurt that I gained back some of the weight I lost a few years ago so I am losing it again. But no, I'm not going on adderall, that was a joke. Serious about like everyone in my industry being on adderall or something similar, it does seem that way sometimes.
Obviously you don't have to say but what medical condition necessitate keto? diabetes? I'm curious.

I think type 2 and pre-diabetes use Keto as a way to manage blood sugar levels so that going full bore insulin injections aren't a thing. And in the case of pre-diabetes it can potentially keep it from becoming full blown diabeetus.

The only other medical condition that would necessitate keto would be some forms of epilepsy, where ketosis can help control the seizures. It doesn't work for all forms of epilepsy but it is an effective treatment for certain types. Outside of that, I don't think doctors pretty much ever prescribe going into keto, especially as a long term solution.

Chaos, if cravings are what's making you miserable, grab some Chromemate brand chromium tablets. I don't know exactly how it works, but it definitely works for curbing/ceasing sugar cravings.

Yeah the old lady is pre-diabetic. Basically they told her that with her family history and diet, she'd have it soon enough. I wasn't going to do it a first but decided that maybe I should, just for support. And I didn't figure it would be that hard for me since I like this kind of stuff. And I just assumed alcohol counted as carbs so when I found out they didn't and I can get rickety wrecked all the time that was awesome. Then I remembered I have kids and responsibilities and shit so I don't. BUT I COULD.

The cravings are fine, comes and goes. I got some of those atkins snacks that Brahma has and they are ok, but at this point I can only eat like on e a week, too overly sweet for me. Starting using diet soda as a treat as well, like a once a week thing, I actually like the taste of diet Dr pepper. It's just a feel like shit. Frequent headaches, joint aches, trouble sleeping, super duper fucking tired in the mornings, etc.

At this point I'd recommend easing some carbs back in, at least every few days. Since you're only doing this for the missus, you'll obviously want to get the carbs in when you're not at home, but I think you're making yourself miserable for no real benefit.

Yeah but most doctors don't know shit about nutrition other than hurr, low fat FDA diet. Its silly but its the truth. Only now that shit is really coming into question, even having FDA finally revise their bullshit pyramid, although still fucking carbs and low fat bullshit.

Anecdotal for sure but my numbers improved in orders of magnitude on a keto diet. My doctor was amazed at the quick turnaround.

The thing that's great after a while you don't even get the cravings anymore. Shit, sometimes on a weekend ill go out sat morning doing shit in the yard, cleaning the pool, fucking around in the garage and don't even get hungry with the ups and downs of blood sugar bullshit all day like was the norm on a regular diet. Only in the evening Ill realize, shit, I have not eaten anything. This would of been a no-no before keto. I used to get dizzy spells from not having the food before.

I have 2 teenage sons and this diet makes you realize just how much of this shit they actually eat. Its amazing. Its carbs, carbs and more carbs all fucking day long. I try not to even buy the shit anymore but I cant be all crazy about it. My older kid 14, 5'8" 140, thin and lean, probably about 12% bf if I had to guess. but he can go days without even eating an ounce of meat if we don't force him to. Hell just go around the kitchen and sneak carb shit all day long. Bars, chips, cereal, cheese-its, pretzels, popcorn....

Uh, I'm pretty sure even average doctors know about the effects of low carbohydrates on people. Not to mention ketosis and low carb treatments have been a thing for... a long time. The new studies aren't even conclusive for the most part, and on average (especially long term) caloric deficit trumps, generally, how you get here. Anecdotal statement, but I'm pretty sure not everyone is going to some 60 year old guy who learned medicine under Nixon for the most part.

It's nice that it worked for you, but it 100% not a panacea and it should only be used on a very specific subset of the populace.

But yeah, I'd be surprised if any medical practitioner is actively telling people without a legit medical reason to try ketosis long term, and that list of medical reasons isn't that long.

Maybe it's bullshit chaos, but a few friends of mine claim that aspartame is linked to headaches for them. Diet Dr. Pepper has aspartame in it. I've never noticed anything from aspartame. As far as I know it is safe despite its villification, but I actually prefer sucralose anyway, so it's not really an issue for me. I buy granulated sucralose to make sweet tea at home and buy sucralose based water flavor things like Mio (but store brand) for work.

Aspartame definitely gives me headaches after a certain threshold (never tried to narrow it down to a certain number, but breath mints and other small exposures don't seem to effect me).

As an aside, I was using sucralose as a sweetener several years ago until I saw that it has a pretty low recommended daily value. Also, I learned that fake sugars have an insulin releasing effect, so while you're not getting the calories associated with other sweeteners, you will be sabotaging your weight loss efforts if you're consuming fake sugar and fats in the same meal.

Carbonated water is a nice break from regular water for sure. I think lacroix is too light handed with their flavoring. Our local grocery store chain (Kroger) makes their own carbonated water that has a lot stronger flavor. No sweeteners at all, so it won't fix a craving, but for example Lemon Lime is like drinking an unsweetened Sprite if you can imagine such a thing.

Peach and berry flavors are plenty sweet, obviously it can't compare to soda but that's like saying don't eat broccoli cause it doesn't taste as good as bacon, all about finding substitutes that you like to get the calories down.

Most doctors generally do not have the education on nutrition that they should. The majority of dr's have some kind of specialty they don't veer away from, and general doctors are just that... They know a little about everything.

Also, Dasani has some nice carbonated waters available. I prefer them over LaCroix.

It could be, but I seriously drink like 1 per week on a friday. idk, the headaches are less now than they were, and what i have now is probably related to lack of sleep and stress from work. The joint aches seem better than they were initially. I am thinking I will just suck it up for a while and see if it goes away. After these next couple of weeks stress levels at work should drop off.

I get Vintage brand soda water, that shit is super carbonated. They have a bunch of flavors, I strangely seem to like the unflavored more than the flavors.

Diet soda is just a wtf thing, you know, might as well drink something different just once a week or so. Can't drink juice, regular soda is out, so this works.

When I decided that I wouldn't drink during the week at all (I do love me some beer on weekends, though!) and no more coffee/energy drinks/etc of any kind, I switched almost wholesale over to using a splash of lime juice into some water. Not enough to make it actually tart, but just enough to not be just plain water. Like maybe a 1/3 teaspoon in 12oz or so. Felt like I wasn't "just drinking water" and I still do it today.

That said, I definitely love a borderline frozen glass of filtered water including ice crystals but not chunks of ice early in the morning.

Had a half a bowl of chili. My bud who is doing the diet with me says it's filled with carbs AFTER I eat half the bowl. Dammit!!

Well tomatoes have carbs but not too many, but beans have a ton of course. And if you add any brown sugar or beer or shit like that to it.
