Vanilla itself, at least for the low calorie powders, reminds me of eating cereal with water instead of milk. I mean, I am using water after all. But another flavor like Salted Caramel is a fucking banger with water. You can tell Vanilla is like the bottom dollar choice, too. Because my supplier always sells out of all the other flavors well before all he has is Vanilla left, and then he does a deep discount.

But dont write off Vanilla as a whole - Ive had a "Vanilla Ice Cream" flavor and it was delicious. Its just too bad I bought that powder by mistake, as each serving was 150 calories p/s.

I tried doing it with water, but honestly, skim milk was the way to go for every flavor I tried. Adds minimal calories, but makes the flavor really pop

I imagine most of us are already taking Vitamin supplements.

Lot of garbage ingredients in that.

Try this IMO, doesn't have any garbage filler ingredients whatsoever.

You'll want to eat both before and after a workout generally. Before you want to eat something more slow burning before the work out so you have fuel. The reason you want to also eat after a workout is because within a few hours after a workout is when your body is most likely going to use nutrients to build/repair/refuel muscle as its in a recovery phase so to speak.
Nah you definitely should not eat before a workout. Altho I guess it depends how soon before you mean. An hour or less? Definitely no. The absolute minimum you should wait after eating is 1 hour even if it's a light meal. A much heavier meal you'll want to wait atleast 2 and more likely 3 hours. If you don't you'll very likely get indigestion which is pretty bad.

What I do every day just about is I wake up drink a little bit of water and like a shot sized amount of something with flavor just to get rid of morning mouth. Then I wait about 30 and make a shake and then I go workout about 90-120 mins later for atleast 60 sometimes 90 mins. Then I come home and eat a small meal.

Eating after a workout is by far the most optimal time to be eating. You don't need fuel from food directly before working out, that's what glycogen and fat is for.

Been using this for awhile. I like it
I bought that same one from Costco and the taste seemed fake to me. I started adding 1 serving of peanut butter powder and its nice. I found chocolate from the same company and ended mixing 2 equal parts together into 1 container and I love the flavor.

1 or 2 servings of protien powder, 1 serving of Greek yogurt, 1 serving of peanut butter powder, some ice in a blender, a cup of fresh blueberries and you have a great after workout meal.

Opinions on this at costco. Like I said I don't like powder much, but if I give it another try, no sugar or carbs sounds good, I'll deal with the fake sweetener I assume it has cancer later.

View attachment 533528
Just fyi this stuff is hot fucking garbage. Any brand that uses artificial sweeteners can automatically be written off as low quality trash. Need more protein? Either use the powder I linked a couple posts ago or just eat more chicken/beans/lentils. If you eat white rice, switch it with purple/black rice which has way more protein. Add peanut/almond or whatever butter to shakes. Overly processed garbage is just terrible for you.

So, about 3 and a half months ago I decided to go to a doctor and get a full checkup. I feel fine, and nothing was obviously wrong, but I'm the fattest I've ever been and am about to turn 45, and just wanted to kind of get a general check up. So I was 5'9 and weigh 236 pounds, with basically all my fat being in my chest/gut. I see a doctor and do bloodwork and find out that my Cholesterol is through the roof, I'm pre-diabetic, I've got non-alcoholic fatty liver, and basically deficient in every vitamin they checked. I ask my doctor what to do and she goes "Take vitamins, eat better, and get some exercise." That was the total advice given. She also wanted to do a Fibroscan and Ultrasound to see how advanced my fatty liver was.

So, for the first month I.. just kind of ignored it. Kept telling my wife I know I'm going to need to make changes but then.. just didn't. After the first month I got the liver result and found out I was in stage 3 liver failure - with stage 4 being irreversible. That was kind of the last straw for whatever reason, and the moment I decided I need to take it seriously. That was Tuesday April 30th. Stayed up half the night watching hours and hours of "how to fix your liver" video's and ordered about 10 different vitamins or supplements.

May 1st I went to the store and bought meats and veggies. Stopped eating or drinking basically all carbs and sugars cold turkey, and cut my food consumption in general by probably 80%. The first two weeks were pretty fucking terrible. The next two were still rough, but I was managing. By a month in it was just normal and I was feeling pretty used to it.

Before this I was drinking around a gallon of soda a day, plus eating 3 meals, and snacking all the time as well. Now I'm fasting 18-20 hours a day, eating one or sometimes two small meals, and drinking only water or water with a shot of apple cider vinegar once a day. In May I lost 14 pounds, and another 6 in June. I've cheated twice, both for special occasions - where we ended up having sushi and I was like fuck it, if I'm having Carbs I'll have a beer or two as well. Outside of that though, I've been very disciplined. As an example, I had half a chicken breast with about half a cup of cauliflower rice with 1 fried egg on top for lunch, and literally just had a handful of pecans and a pickle for dinner.

I just had my follow up 3 month bloodwork, and basically everything except my cholesterol is drastically better, Cholesterol didn't change at all - but I'm no longer in the pre-diabetic range, and my liver values were more than 50% better (so much so that my doctor was like "There must have been a problem with the first reading because these are really drastic changes" and I'm going "I don't think so, I've been holding to really drastic standards...", and all my vitamin levels were in normal ranges now (still taking daily supplements).

I need to start adding more exercise to the mix, as I had planned on going to the gym 2-3 times a week and I think I only went about 3 times total right at the start - when I was hardcore caffeine crashing and just miserable. I guess my next step is looking in to how to reduce your cholesterol as well because that's the only "This is very very bad" left on my chart. I also know that at some point I will have to up my calorie intake again because I'm probably only having 300-800 calories a day, which is probably fine while I've still got all this fat to lose, but at some point is probably not healthy.

I have another bloodwork appointment in 3 months to see how I'm doing, and then we are going to do another Fibroscan and Ultrasound on my liver in 6 months as well to see how much I've managed to reverse my liver failure. I know its only been 2 months but at this point I feel totally fine going without food, and I sure like seeing my weight go down little by little, so I'm feeling very motivated to turn this ship around.

Mainly I just wanted to share, but happy to hear feedback on what I could do better or any general advice too. Thanks forum bros!

(In case anyone wants to know what I'm taking daily - Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D-3, Fish Oil, Milk Thistle, Zinc Picolinate, Tudca, Flush-Free Niacin, Berberine w Ceylon Cinnamon)

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I realized just how much it actually was. I would hit a gas station and grab a 64oz fountain drink first thing in the morning, have it half gone during my hour commute. I'd grab a second one in the afternoon, and often grab a third when I was leaving work or before I got home. In my head I was always just going "I drink 2 or 3 sodas a day, that's not very much", not stopping to think "Wait... 128oz in a gallon... So wait, fuck, that means those 64oz sodas are HALF A GALLON each? And I'm drinking multiple every day?"

I was just always drinking soda. I genuinely just never drank water. I probably went months between glasses of water to be honest. It's kind of crazy now that I'm thinking about it.

I always hated plain water so just went to using the mio/crystal light flavor shots. And for workouts I get the electrolyte powders like LMNT for sodium/potassium/zinc

Sounds like you did everything right. How 'high' is your cholesterol ?

When you're that much in calorie deficit for an extended period of time, might be wise to not work out hard, but just increase light exercice, like simply walking more. You just need to signal your body you need your muscles and not damage them by overexercising, with that little calories you probably don't have enough protein to make up for the loss.

You're probably right to prioritize fixing your liver first by focusing on losing fat, that's a hell of a lot higher priority than building muscle.

I really don't know if that's just a "Those numbers are high but not a huge issue to fix" or if its a "Holy Shit, you gonna die!" situation.

And yeah, went on maybe a mile walk last night just to get some kind of exercise in. My days fluctuate a little, but I really don't get much activity in. A typical day is getting up, hour commute to work, sit at my desk for 10 hours with occasional walking around, hour commute home, maybe spend an hour on my feet helping with chores, then back to sitting for a bit at the computer or kitchen table and then going to bed. Looking at my phone, most work days are between 1500 and 2500 steps, with days off being 3500-5000. I have no issues walking around all day when I want to, took a trip at the beginning of the year and was walking 20,000+ miles a day and I was fine, just need to have a reason to walk I guess.

Probably should be huh? I think its just the mentality of "I feel fine so I guess I can just keep doing what I'm doing and I'll continue to be fine." I've just never been a really active person, have no physical hobbies, and don't enjoy exercising... so I just never have. Going to continue to try and work on that though.

It's kind of funny, but like you mentioned heart health, and I actually did go to the medical school my wife was attending 2 years ago and spent a day letting the ultrasound students look at my heart. They looked and went "You were super easy to scan, all the pictures are super clear and everything looks great!" so somewhere in my head I was just like "Cool, glad to hear it", and continued without change. Along the same lines, I went 14 years without going to a dentist, just because I had no insurance and had no issues. Went a few years ago and the dentist looks in my mouth and goes "Wow, you really lucked out that you're blessed with good genetics, when someone tells me they haven't been to a checkup in 14 years I assume its going to be a nightmare, but your teeth are great. I bet you take super good care of them huh? Probably brush twice a day or more and floss, and I can tell you're not a soda drinker." I laughed and said "I brush them when I wake up in the morning, I've never flossed, and I drink a ton of soda."

I guess what I'm getting at is that when I don't see the immediate problem, its easy to ignore or assume there isn't one. Hell, a couple of years ago as I was gaining weight I had an issue with my belt buckle uncomfortably digging into my gut when I sat down. That should have been the wake up call of "You're too fat, lose weight." Instead, one morning I just buckled my belt to the side, like right above my pocket, then when I sat down there was no uncomfortable pressure. I've been doing that ever since and proceeded to gain 30 more pounds or whatever. Out of sight, out of mind.

This is the kind of shit I'm working on changing.

Even going from 2.5k steps a day to 8k steps a day will be a significant improvement in heart health and respiratory health, and like 250 extra calories burn each work day. It doesn't sound like much, but an extra 1550 calories burned a week is 23 pounds at the end of the year.

Just start small and work on making it a habit. A 5 minute walk in the morning before getting ready for work will pretty quickly make a noticeable difference in how you feel through the day. Anything really, whatever you can do regularly, do it, and build from there.

Yeah, honestly last night was not a bad time. My wife and I played Pokemon Go years ago, and both my kids just got into it, so we've started playing with them. Last night I just walked around for like 30 minutes catching Pokemon and honestly the time just flew by. I imagine I'll try and make a habit of that before bed each night, as I live in Az so even before work its baking out, and I'm more of a night owl anyway.

This is a bit suboptimal, as the optimal is around 200-230 but fasting will temporarily increase TC and decrease HDL, I guess if you've been in 500+ caloric restriction for weeks you could be in a state similar to fasting, so you might have normalized you cholesterol already, you'll know in a few months when you'll eventually stop being in caloric restriction.

My TC is also 280 after a 5 days fast, but 220 when not fasting.

I lived in Vegas for 6 years so understand dealing with the heat. Whatever you choose, just start small and build the habit.

This is one of the hardest parts I've found. Cheating can lead to lack of discipline for the next day, and that begets more cheating. Slippery slope, but if you can indulge and get right back on track, you are doing better than most of us.
