Lmao this thing looks ugly as fuck

New logo and branding is ass. I'll wait to see how it looks without the camo, but I don't have high hopes. Looks like they're trying some 80s future look like Hyundai, which I think has been killing it with their EVs. If they're really skipping the rear window, that's a terrible decision - those camera based rear view mirrors suck ass. I get motion sickness from their craptastic framerate in the corner of my eye.

Yea they have had animation for a while - and true its not an identifier - its been nice looking… and the mach-e did it really nice both front and back… then the new one…bleh

They also got rid of the traditional dash design for the new one…

69 is my dream stang

05 is nice

05 gen with 69 shell kit… those were sweet looking
I had a 66 back in high school (late 80s). I loved that car. Only got rid of it because I needed a car I didn't need to work on every weekend. Of course I had to work on it because of how much we'd whored her out for fun. 302 punched out to a 318, holley 4 bbl on top, ridiculous cam for ridiculous fun, cherry bombs on it, and the combination of exhaust and cam I believe led to the fact that I couldn't keep the exhaust manifolds securely on to save my damn life...

But she was a glorious beast. First car I ever topped 120 in.

In less enjoyable news... Mrs. Haus Mrs. Haus is finally dropping hints that since we have had no car payment for over half a decade, and she has the older and less pimpin ride (2013 Ford Escape) that she's due for an upgrade for "modern features." So I come to you, my favorite random jackwagons on the internet. She still wants a compact/small SUV. What are the suggestions from you fine gentlefolk? The only thing that's caught my eye lately in that arena was when we were at the state fair and I got a chance to look hard at the Bronco Sport. Everything else in that class looks identical to me....

And in even LESS enjoyable news... Looks like a single feature might keep me from ever buying a GM product again.... (Cause I love me some Android auto and Waze) : https://www.autoblog.com/news/gm-doubles-down-on-cutting-apple-carplay-and-android-auto

I have a Bronco Sport as my loaner while my poor Mach-e is getting its high voltage jumper fixed

Do not get a bronco sport… 8 (or whatever) gears and it has 0 clue what one to be in.

The Mach-e is an escape EV they decided to send to the gym and slapped a horse on it in hopes to sell more- fyi if you like ford , that size and want to explore EVs. Used are cheap, even model Ys are avail for mid 20s some even 25 or lower count for used EV tax credit.

I feel like that segment is mostly the driving appliance category. I'll echo the CX5/50 recommendation as maybe the one who stands out a bit from that unless you go into the luxury realm. Since it's a second vehicle, you might want to consider a Model Y.

Mazda needs to fix their infotainment screen design - but so does Toyota and many others.

Other than that- Mazdas are nice- but i dont fit in them well or we would have gotten r the big Mazda over tha Infiniti qx60 when we got that one- and they have a new generation out now I believe for them all.

I give this bronco sport the exterior- its nice and solid and feels and looks quality - all the light enclosures are nice and the design is cool- the leds and running lights are all nice and the build quality seems really high… then you go inside and you flip a coin every time you touch something if its nasty plastic or nice plastic.

They first gave me the 2nd highest trim- i had to look it up bc i thought it was a base model… the seats were really nice, a faux leather and wool 2 tone- nice… but, the infotainment center had nothing… a compass - am/fm lol no nav… apps or anything.

No wireless phone charger and no garage door opener … then they sold my loaner so i swapped to, the lowest trim! Normal cloth seats - and the dash screen is not as fancy…but, it has a wireless phone charger and garage door opener! So, seems to me their trim and option packages are a bit…odd…

It’s 2024 making people pay for infotainment features is stupid.

He wants something that's going to last a decade, that shit is going to fall apart just like the maverick.
Folks that are real car enthusiasts have all shit on the sport heavily. If you want a bronco pony up for the real one.

Kinda looks like a Chrysler 300C in profile?

Maybe, but the lack of a rear window seems to imply a rather steep rake. Which calls into question the whole purpose of the car, since no one is buying cars and the back seat headroom would be compromised? It has a lot of weird lumps and proportions, so guess will have to see it with camo off but it doesn't strike me as on the right path...

They don't show it from the rear at all though except in the top photo where you can only see like 1/4 of it. What that lumpy mess in the rear will look like is anybody's guess.

Does seem like a straight up/down sedan at the front and back though, guess they never heard of aerodynamics either.

It seems like they're positioning themselves in the "luxury" segment so not sure being a brick is a problem since they are going to make a 7000 pound chonker anyway. Though I feel like that market of 'not quite luxury but really expensive EV sedans' is already bloated. This seems completely uninteresting, but I guess I don't look like the cast of Zoolander so I'm not the target demographic.

They are entering a sedan market that is Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Maybach. The customers of those cars are conservatives, so you can cross off that demographic from the start. In the US, it will be sold to basketball players and rappers.

They already stated their intention is to alienate 85% of their current buyers. Who that leaves beyond those I have already mentioned is anyone's guess.

The luxury EV market is flat dead on its face, and there will be few buyers at the $150k they want for it. They'll see a flash of sales at the start, but weird styling only goes so far. Look at the Cybertruck, for instance.

Hamburger grill on the back will look like the door latch in 2nd pic

Yeah, she wants to stick to the compact size, otherwise I'd probably be looking more at the full sized Bronco. Also our garage is as such that fitting a full sized Bronco along with my Caddy in it would be... challenging. heh

This is going to be a long shopping phase for this I think. Probably not purchasing to until towards the end of this year or into next.

Probably best to get a list of everything in the segment; do all the research and then hands on with as many as possible.

Or wait until 2028 and get an R3X :D

Dunno what the current Lexus/Toyota situation is, but one of my relatives has a 2010ish Lexus that's got over 200k miles on it without a major mechanical issue. They have some some smaller SUVs that should be fine in a smaller garage.

They may also be the manufacturer with the most parts made in the US, as well as final assembly (non-electric).

Old Toyota/Lexus is better made and more reliable than new Toyota/Lexus

I have 2nd gen Tundra and a new 3rd Gen. Leather in 2nd gen is way better than leather in the new one. In terms of reliability, who knows. 2nd gen has legendary reliability. Mine had 2 minor repairs in its entire life. New TT in the Tundra had the whole engine blowing up thing which has been fixed and they are making owners of grenaded engine whole. My Highlander looked like it was assembled by inebriated toddlers. New Grand Highlander looks cheap at 25 paces and gets worse the nearer you get.

Lexus, though. Interiors no better than Toyota. Really cheap leather. Pretty downmarket interiors overall. Big turn off.

Overall Toyota still more reliable than anyone else other than Honda, which is why I get them. Honda more realistic with prices and always had excellent experience with dealerships. Toyota got smart and realized they were facing sales catastrophe with Tundra, so offered huge discounts. Mine was almost $6k less than same exact thing I looked at 2 years ago. Big 3 still had unrealistic pricing on their trucks. $10k more than Tundra for similar trim and equipment.

Lexus price doesn't match up with reality, and presents a good case for mandatory drug testing.
