khane reminds me of a girl I knew in High School. One day the teacher told us that someone dies in a car wreck every X seconds (can't remember the figure, but I think it was around 30). She cocks her head like a dog trying to figure out who farted, then her hand shoots up and asks if there's someone in washington with a stopwatch, and what's wrong with that guy, why doesn't he just stop timing and save lives!

I was cynical enough to guess it, I would say, but seeing it laid out is pretty annoying. The only charity I really donate to is The Red Cross.

I've always assumed the worst about all charities. I know there are some good ones out there, but it's hard to tell the good from the bad. If I can't actually see the result of the money I give then I don't like giving it. Which is why I've never donated outside of small, local organizations run through churches and the like in my town; I can see with my own eyes the good they're doing and know that my money isn't padding some asshole's pocket.
This is also why it rustles my jimmies when grocery stores and pharmacies try to shake me down for donations to random_charity_01 every time I buy something. I don't know how much of that money will actually make it to the charity, let alone how much of the money will go towards helping people. Probably cents on the dollar.

That bullshit has been coming to light over the past few years, its pretty disgusting and unethical. I always wonder how the fuck do the people who run/work the charity who make 100-200k a year or more live with themselves or rationalize what they do.
