House of 1000 corpses. I was only 18 or so at the time, and I believe its got a cult following now so maybe it isn't as bad as I remember, but at the time me and the gf both thought it was terrible and we walked out.

The biggest budgeted movie is probably A.I. Something about that film just makes me hate it, from the first time I saw it in the cinema right up until now. I'm sure there's other films I've been completely ambivalent about that are probably 'worse', but I always remember A.I and how much I thought it sucked. It hasn't improved on subsequent viewings either. I think it's probably the themes (I love sci fi), and I think oh hey maybe its not as bad as I remember and its Spielberg directing so it must be ok. Then I sit down and watch it and its just as bad and just goes on forever, and it makes me angry.

I saw this one at the cinema: The Jackal 1997

It's like the telling of the worst attempt at an assassination ever.

Watch this clip of how long he waits, for no good reason, with the target totally zeroed in.

And how long is it taking for him to just press a button ( including a bad edit showing his finger reaching for the button a 2nd time ) PRESS THE BUTTON!!

how horrible the fight choreography was compared to the originals. I mean yeah the originals looked a bit rough and they were just flailing around at parts, but I prefer them, especially the second half of the fight between Vader and Luke when Vader provokes him out of hiding. The prequel fights didn't look like fights, they looked like choreographed dancing. Particularly the fight between Maul and Obi-Wan, but also in the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan. They actually came very close to recapturing the feel of Vader vs Luke with the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight, but then they have retarded sequences that completely ruin it like the one spot where they each spend about 5 seconds spinning their lightsabers around themselves instead of actually fighting.

I dragged my girflriend to that one, it might have even been a double date and I made all of us go. When I die I'm going to have a lot to atone for.

I thought the acrobatic way they fought in the prequels was pretty awesome most of the time, but I still like the old stuff where the lightsabers seemed to have mass. It's the difference between broadswords and rapiers. If they could combine the two it'd be awesome.

After all, jedi are semi-precognitive, so any fight where one can't simply overpower the other (see Luke surging with anger) is a chess match of trying to catch the other with a move they can't react fast enough to. I also (nerd out) always imagined that the battles are also being fought on an invisible level with the force, trying to cloud each others mind or beat each other down with waves of force thingery. Thus Vader staggering around like a dolt while Luke wailed on him, or the fucking retarded way Darth Maul got chopped in half when he had an eternity to react. Made even more retarded when Anakin was turned into a weeble-wobble for trying the exact same goddamn move with significantly less success. So Obi-Wan fucking with Maul's head is the only way to explain away that AWFUL scene.

Also hilarious was how pitiful Obi-Wan was against Dooku. That guy just had his number.

What I take away from all of this is the dark side is stronger burst but goes OOM faster. And I fear from the rumors that they have Luke still doing the post-Avengers Tony Stark PTSD thing 30 years later out of his guilt for giving in to the dark side to beat up his dad.

The only reason I can see for walking out of Hero is being totally weirded out by the aesthetic of these HK/Chinese historico-fantasy epics.

While I think Hero wasn't great, calling it the worst movie you've ever seen at the cinema must mean you've only gone to like 5 movies ever or something.

In porkchop's defense, I just rewatched some of the fights and they really cranked the 'poetry in action' to 11, so I can easily imagine some people finding it absolutely grotesque, especially if you have never seen anything else of the same ilk.

Speaking of Hero...any recent movies in the vein of Crouching Tiger/House of Flying Daggers/Hero? Those types of fantasy Chinese swordfighting movies were huge around the turn of the millennium, but I haven't seen much mention of any newer takes on the style(in US cinema, at least)
