Yea, LFRs and coins have a demoralizing effect on me. I know that technically I have the same chance as before, but only getting gold makes me rage. Thing is, in old LFRs even when rolling against others I used to come out with a few pieces every raid. Maybe I was lucky but I felt like I was getting rewarded. Now, the boss dies, and I just get gold.

Also, the coins are fucking frustrating. Yes, I understand that we didn't have them before so that's an increase, but god, getting duplicate items makes me so angry. You know you've already won the roll to win an item, so getting something you already have is just depressing.

I don't understand why they can't take the ability for it to dup an item out of the equation. Seems kind of dickish to me.

Some of our folks have tremendous luck when it comes to coins and LFR; our main tank geared up primarily in LFR and would honestly get a piece (sometimes two) from every LFR boss. He still has that luck. He has all of his 496 pieces from Sha for every spec, and always gets loot from bosses. We have a few dps like this too.

Meanwhile, the healers in our guild would constantly get nothing. Partly because of LFR and partly because all we get is cloth (wtf) our healers have the lowest ilvl in the gear, and it's not for lack of trying.

Now, the healers don't do LFR because they're sick of the RNG passing them over, which ups the time of anyone else queuing since heals have a lower queue. Fuck you, RNG.

We're a raid guild so we raid normal mode obviously, but a few pieces have been worth it for a bit of a boost. Not this time around; far too frustrating for us to keep going.

Were you burned out by DS (which was shit) and Firelands (which only Rag saved)? If so, I can appreciate the hesitation.
Lots of Firelands before I quit. I remember reading about MoP right before its release and every bullet point they threw at me (presumably to get me interested in playing) made me less interested. Pandas, pet battles, normalized resource pools, tiered talent system ala D3. I'd been playing this game for 7 years and it looks like it passed me by. Not that I want the talent system to feel like I'm dropping a hammer on my nuts but come on... Glad to hear the pet battles are weirdly entertaining and I hear the content is decent.

Most likely I will wait a bit before I play and eventually I will drunk dial this fucked up ex-girlfriend one last time...

anyone been soloing old shit for mounts, pets, achieves, etc? heres my experiences so far:

zg: holy fuck, my mage got pwned by trash and i couldn't kill any bosses. gonna try with DK this weekend, anyone solo it?
sunwell: great for weekly hunter run for thoridal, easy (skip 1st boss cant solo)
mc: any class easy, 3-4 pets drop that sell for a lot
bwl: first boss takes a few deaths to figure out, try to drop the mc once in a while and use self-heals to aggro the room and then re'MC. Once you "learn" it you can do it with razorgore never going below 80% hp
aq40: easy, just burst down one of the emps (melee hit the other emp if you are a caster so you get loot). not sure how a pure melee would do this. viscidous is tricky, you need a trinket or something that spawns a add that melee attacks, or a frost weapon enchant or something. basically hit with frost a lot and then melee a lot when frozen. aq40 drops 3-4 pets also that sell well
naxx: couldn't do patchwerk on my mage, gonna try my DK this weekend. drops 3-4 pets
TK: took a lot of tries on my mage, superez when you equip staff. DK isn't too bad either, HP drops a bit when 4 adds are up but kill mage, engineer, then the other 2 are easy.
BT: couldn't get past illidari council on my mage, shit hits too hard. Gonna try on my DK or warrior.
kara: easy, I just run in once a week to kill first boss. Run past all the trash and explode attumen, for chance at mount.

haven't tried ZA yet, heard people can solo alys in Firelands too (for mount/achieves). Doing all of this basically sucks up 90% of my wow playtime, haha

Noob here, is there any point to doing pvp other than to just pvp? I mean, is there a way to get PVE gear, mounts, pets, whatever - anything OTHER than PVP gear?

about the only thing you can get for PvE from PvP is the Black War mounts and the faction specific mount from the Rated BGs.

I have been doing Malygos mounts
Molten Core - Still need all 3 pets
BWL - Still need all 3 pets,
Naxx- have gotten Gluth, still need the other 2
Ahn'Qiraj - Just need the Mini Mindslayer

I can normally knock out all of those in 2 days with my huntard. I just hace shit luck with the pets.

Depends on your stage of gearing, but PvP gear was rebalanced such that PvP-specific stats no longer count towards the item level budget.

So while you don't get anything other than PvP gear, it's very useful for PvE if you don't have good alternatives for that slot. Considering how easy it is to get PvP epics (483 item level), many people opted to round out their sets with that gear in preparation for raiding. It's also worth noting that since you upgrade PvP gear with conquest points (PvE epics with Valor, which is capped separately at 1000 per week), you can expedite your gearing quite a bit.

It's not as big a deal now with HoF and ToES out for LFR, but it may still be attractive depending on your goals and how shitty/good your luck is in those raids.

Man I hope this goes live. It will mean no one anywhere will have any reason to ever complain about mages in PVP ever again. The class will be so dead in PVP that even moonkin and combat rogues will point and laugh hilariously at mages of any spec that tries to arena. And I'm fucking glad for it.

Oh, the PTR link:http://ptr.wowdb.com/spells/44572-deep-freeze

tl;dr: Deep Freeze breaks if the mage does any damage. Nothing that has ever been done to the class can match such destruction of mage viability in PVP. Currently the only way to kill someone solo outside of a full DF stun is to hope they are a quadriplegic that plays with one of those chin-joysticks. With the annihilation of deep freeze I don't think even that would be advantage enough.

And I hope it happens so everyone can shut the fuck up forever about PVP. You can't even discuss mage *RAID PVE* without every fucking reply being "LOL UR OP IN PVP SUIK IT HURHURHRUHUR" It is obvious that they too are so tired of the complaining that they are just going to continuously plow over the class like a couple of rednecks assramming Ving Rhames over and over until the crying stops. Every couple of weeks a new two foot dildo of a PVP nerf will roll out until there are no more dead horses left to beat. And then they'll just keep adding more. By 5.5 mages will be reduced to meleeing with their staves and maybe then the fucking nerfs will finally stop. AND I'M GLAD.

Well, there are like 5-6 mounts you can buy with honor if you don't already have them (they are basically just black colored versions of the various racial mounts). You can also use honor to buy justice points if you want. There are also certain tradeskill mats you can buy. In MOP, you can use honor to buy motes of harmony and conquest to buy spirits of harmony.

Spronk if you manage to do patchwerk on 25 man, let me know how you managed it. I got blown up attempting him the one time.. i did do every other boss in there except that wing though, as a solo blood DK.
I just killed him in 10 man on my DK and never dropped below 90% hp, but I was in my tank gear (475 ilevel, all from LFR/pvp). I'll try 25 next week and let you know, but try 10 man and see. I think the drops are all the same, just more in 25? dont remember now

Re: PVP gear, you can turn honor points into justice points to upgrade dungeon gear, I guess (375 honor to 250 justice). I have a warrior that has cleared all the LFRs this week and has never stepped in a single 5 man, he got all his gear from PVP, upgraded everything to 466, got lucky with sha and got 1-2 malev items and I think one tier piece. So yeah, if you hate the RNG of 5 mans then its an alternative route to LFR. Any real raid leader would laugh you out if you try to app with PVP gear though.

if anyone solos ZG or ZA (the cata versions) let me know.

and kreugen, don't blow a blood vessel worrying about mages, at least until people start parsing the various specs on PTR. What people should be worried about are warriors, they are pretty much as OP as mages in PVP right now so if they wait to nerf them at the last minute they will probably go overboard.

Oh, yeah 10 man is silly easy. 25 is quite a lot harder with patchwerk, but everything else is still piss easy, just takes a bit longer to kill

My guild has killed Amber Shaper once, and we went back to kill him again for the first time tonight. The only reason we killed him is because the three people that knew how to be constructs and not fuck up were miraculously all chosen to be constructs during phase 2. We wiped 10-15 times tonight because at least one person who rarely (1/10 pulls) gets picked for construct gets picked and wipes us. Every. Pull.

So here's my question: How do you guys train your people to not be terrible constructs? Do you endure countless wipes until the good players get picked?

People who are otherwise good (our frost mage who easily tops the charts on this fight wiped us because he let his will power hit 0, our rogue who cloaks off the parasite without being called out and does great dps wiped us several times because he didn't interrupt himself or didn't interrupt the monstrosity, etc) are wiping us when they get picked as constructs. I am soooo frustrated because there's nothing I can do to help these people get better at this fight other than telling them to watch videos and try to become a construct in lfr... I off tank and lead our raids and I'm about to the point to where I'm just going to pass around my login info and have every single person get phase 1 down while playing my tank and becoming a construct.
