Maybe a fresh perspective as someone who didn't play for almost 10 years but enjoys higher end gameplay...

Overall its a fairly compelling gameplay loop with enough variety and challenge to scale; key things that would really improve the experience for me would be:

1) Loot Carrot - Keep it gated but give some pathway to at least 1 mythic drop a week (2 for the super ass high end keys). To me its a very simple solution of introducing a "dust" or whatever that maybe if you time 4 11s maybe that gives it and you can upgrade 1 heroic item gained from mythic dungeons to mythic version a week? Don't need a loot orgasm here just something that gives alternative means for non raiders to improve outside 1 rando vault or supplement efforts of raiders.

2) Penalties for leaving....I can not fathom how you can get 30 min deserter in heroic dungeons but walking in and bailing on the first pull gone slightly wrong and bricking someone's key has zero consequence. Fully appreciate the SMALL % of people that gain no value from pushing to end w/o time but that shouldn't dictate design. (talking 7+'s with g crests being in demand for just about all the player base). Least make it like a 10 min timer and has to have 3 of 5 people vote to end w/o penalty or something? Would need some additional mechanics to not deal with person that sits there afk but SOMETHING is better then current state. Especially since for a decent chunk of people currently vault is only pathway to mythic gear outside first 2 maybe 3 bosses PUG on raids. Gutting out 10's still counts on vault. Having insta leavers reminds me of why i quit WOW years ago, has such a bad design in so many areas that supports little fucks being little fucks with no negative impact. Getting to be a crusty old gamer at 40+ but its so off putting to play a game that blindly supports this type of behavior.

3) I'm 100% all in favor of giving some form of incentive for healers/tanks to help gear alts and shit while playing their mains. It is a PAIN as a dps to get groups, like fucking give them 50% of all crests earned as a war band version they can use on alts as well...I care not. Just get more healers/tanks queing please!

I've got my shaman to 633 ilvl and 2650 or so i think rating and my alt marksman hunter to 630 and 2650'ish so plenty of grinding in mythics and raiding. Took some time to learn the game again, still abit low on dps vs my gear but hold my own and slowly getting used to all the little things that really make a difference at the higher levels. Done 4/8 mythic raids so far and enjoy those as well. Also outside of missing a week of grinding on vacation been doing decent raids from early on + fair amount of mythics and i'm only I think 815 of 900 gilded crests so again I think there has to be 95% of the player base proably not capped on gilded still so they still get something for finishing to help slowly improve.

Pretty much a guaranteed blockbuster expansion pack, now. The rest of the content could be complete shit, but people will fall over themselves trying to buy this. Its been a no-brainer to add in Player Housing for at at least the last decade. Im even expecting BoozeCube BoozeCube to play it in secret when it comes out, now.

I guess but it's literally just a teaser and personally I don't care about housing aside from utility.

Dont get it twisted. That feature isnt even for people like me, or you - granted I think we're in the same frame of mind. But think back to the massive amount of moms and dads that have played this over the years. They'll finally get a chance to do player housing in a setting that they remember fondly. Even if the teaser doesnt give an in depth review - its still promising the "idea" of it and thats all these people will need. Look at the massive sales that D4 got, and when it was released it had less content than D3 by a country mile.

I get it, just seems like we're going to get another express expac of exact same formula + housing this time. Yawn.

Yeah housing, no brainer. Looked a lot like a collection feature with all the trophies on the wall. So everyone has a room and instead giving us toys, pets and mounts as rewards we now also get decor items (wild guess).

Housing item collection is also something I guarantee they will do RMT stuff with. FF14 is the least money grabby in that regard, but they do sell housing stuff from past seasonal events that are no longer available ingame

Lord of the Rings Online has had housing for more than a decade and I've never bothered to buy one.

We already have titles, mounts, achieves, etc. to show off our e-peen, all this does is fraction off the population, like all the downsides of garrisons.

Now Guild Halls I could get behind - have all the major features of the next city in an instanced-to-your-guild-only deal (but still keep a lame, inefficient city for those without guilds / high level guilds to use if needed). Have personal quarters each player / warband creates attached to that guild hall. Obviously decor and such would be customizable based on cheeves.

Housing? JFC just rez garrisons, add more customization for the keep and make it player housing. Expac added followers for dungeons and delves, make use out of ALLLLLL the bloody followers already made for how many expansions now? Add some kind of carrot with a collection system of different followers, maybe some kind of stat system for your followers, since the big push is for solo players/alts maybe something that allows you to upgrade them to do heroic/mythic, possibly a couple lower M+ as a gateway to get those solo players into real M+. Just throw a table in to keep everyone happy, and its even more use out of the followers.

Whatever, another throw away system that will get basically ignored for the next big idea.

I am just curious what their engine will actually support for housing decoration/customization. If it is some bootleg "snap item to predetermined snap point" bullshit or is Bethesda level "how dare you try to clip objects!!!" limitation, then it won't be as big a pull to casuals or people really into housing.

Yeah player housing doesn't move the needle at all for me. Never has, neither did Garrisons.

The joke during WoD days was that everyone was sitting in their own little garrison, just like prisoners in a cell, communicating through /1 or by banging on the pipes in Morse code.

As always the reality is housing is just content for most people. The insidious part of garrisons was they had so much utility and replaced capital cities. You walk around housing in other MMOs and it's always a ghost town outside a few weirdos doing it 24/7 and group housing.

Of course even if they do guild housing, it feels kind of hollow 16ish years after they destroyed all the social bonds in the community and eliminated most of the traditional guilds.

Guild housing is just individual player housing, except one guy gets to be decorator for dozens of people lol
