Crime in Mexico: Out of sight, not out of mind | The Economist

According to estimates by INEGI, the national statistics institute, last year saw 105,682 kidnappings; only 1,317 were reported to the police. There were around 6m cases of extortion; the police put the number at 7,272. Using its own figures, Security, Justice and Peace, an anti-crime charity, says Mexico is currently the worst place for kidnapping in the world, and that more victims are being killed. It says Mr Pe?a lacks an anti-kidnapping policy and is downplaying the entire crime problem.

I wasn't necessarily stating that it was a pinnacle of truth - just stating there's a wide spread on opinion. And note, how quick Big P usually is to say "Well, the media is crap and distorts reports on X/Y" - I knew he'd be glad to provide the most skewed towards his view, was the first skewed towards "safe" that there was on a GIS - wasn't claiming it was anything more than a counterpoint. (And note of course that again, a common conclusion of "no worry for most people, just don't be stupid" just like the travel advisory stated)

Although with doing a brief search on canadian kidnappings, it looks like they might not be entirely inaccurate - apparently PARENTAL kidnappings are pretty common in Canada. Which probably shouldn't be on any stat like that though since they were talking about violent crime which parental kidnapping isn't.

Of course then again, from what I'm reading apparently most of the "kidnappings" in Mexico that are being reported as such aren't "kidnappings" either - from the travel advisory - " "Express" kidnappings are those in which a victim is abducted for a short time and forced to withdraw money, usually from an ATM, then released. A "virtual" kidnapping is an extortion by deception scheme wherein a victim is contacted by phone and convinced to isolate themselves from family and friends until a ransom is paid. The victim is coerced (by threat of violence) to remain isolated and to provide phone numbers for the victim's family or loved ones. The victim's family is then contacted and a ransom for the "kidnapped" extracted. Recently, some travelers to Mexico staying at hotels as guests have been targets of such "virtual" kidnapping schemes." Which really aren't kidnappings either - so how inflated the figure is because of nonsense like that is questionable as well. (I'd label those as muggings and extortion personally - kidnappings for either seems ludicrous)

And regardless, El Salvador vs Mexico for example:
Homicides - 4371 vs 27199 with a population of 6m vs. 121m.

Approx 1/6th the homicides with 1/20th the population - around 3 times more homicides per capita.

And that's likely from reports BEFORE the current instability started getting added to the figures.

Which was my point before this entire "Is Mexico dangerous" tangent started - there's a huge difference between the two nations when it comes to risk. (And even for "areas to avoid" being a possibility - population in Mexico is around 60 per sq mi, nice and spread out, population density in El Salvador is 290 per sq mile - much harder to hide from incidents when everything is so population dense)

Really? They're not refugees? They coming from Club Med and I missed it? No they're coming from countries that are incredibly volatile and violent right now. (ESCAPE WAR)

Or the more in depth UN Refugee description (who officially declares refugee or not generally):

(Not to mention the two aren't mutually exclusive - you can have illegal immigrant refugees and you can have refugees that are 100% legal [although any illegal immigrant refugee will likely segway into legal ones if they follow the appropriate channels])
I happened to read both of these at the same time. The timing made me literally laugh out loud.

I mean, if it's war torn and it's poverty stricken, why would we leave anybody there? Why are we only going to bring the children? As I say, the New York Times is ecstatic, and it fits the pattern here, folks. The stated purpose of Obamacare was to drive health insurance premiums way down, right? You were gonna save $2,500 a year! "Your premiums are gonna go down $2500! It's gonna be much cheaper all over the place."

Right. What happened? The law's impact was to drive insurance premiums way up, and we haven't seen anything yet. So now the Regime is considering a plan to stem the surge of migrants, but what instead is actually going to happen -- and any fool should know this -- is this going to encourage a flood of new illegal immigrants to try their luck using the refugee excuse.

Under American law, "refugees are people fleeing their country of origin based on fears of persecution by reason of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group." So you say you cite one of the above, and you don't have to pay the coyotes to take you, now. You don't have to find a death train and sit on top of a freight car.

You don't have to make the trip all the way north through Mexico. See, "refugee" is now a loophole. "Refugee" gets you an amnesty card, and this is guaranteed to be abused until it's rendered meaningless, until there won't be any difference between "refugee" and "illegal immigrant." In fact where this is probably headed is an effort to totally eliminate the term "illegal immigrant" or "illegal alien" and just call 'em all "refugees," because, here it is:

"Under American law, refugees are people fleeing their country of origin based on fears of persecution by reason of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group." You throw in poverty in there, too. We'll let that count.

You are a complete fucking moron, you know that? Seriously, using Rush as a source of "truth".

For starters in that Rush quote (always a great unbiased source FYI, he's never lied...) - the $2500 savings quote, he tries imply was immediate and actual savings when the old quote he's using there was later corrected by them as meaning "savings over the year in total healthcare costs" even though he either misstated premiums or left it open enough to strongly imply it more than a few times. But when confronted about it, that was the response. (And protip: everyone makes misstatements at times because they miss a key word or two - i.e. "Your healthcare costs will go down $2500" is different in this case than "Your total healthcare costs of all types will net you a $2500 savings" - which is hard to parse out as accurate or inaccurate because of how muddy following such even without HIPA getting in the way)

Secondly, refugee isn't a "fucking excuse" - a massive number of people are dying over there EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY - this isn't talking points, this is just facts of the world.

And refugee's aren't automatically turned into citizens, nor do most (apparently 40% of refugees that go to the US opt to become US citizens according to the UN's stats) even want to be. And with most of these being kids, even the anchor baby excuse is ridiculously foolish - trying to net voters from kids of kids? So in around 25-30 years the first few world start being able to vote. For the 40% that actually stay here...

This is black helicopter Lumie lizardmen territory.

Here's a video to help you reflect on things, you probably think it's insightful: (PS - Might want to watch Word Crimes too [and yes, I smacked myself a few times on some of the points in Word Crimes])

Glen Beck was talking at length about this a year after Obama was elected. Now its so obvious but to the uneducated, it seems really random.

Michael Reisch and Janice Andrews wrote that Cloward and Piven "proposed to create a crisis in the current welfare system - by exploiting the gap between welfare law and practice - that would ultimately bring about its collapse and replace it with a system of guaranteed annual income. They hoped to accomplish this end by informing the poor of their rights to welfare assistance, encouraging them to apply for benefits and, in effect, overloading an already overburdened bureaucracy
Flood America with illegal immigrants in an effort to collapse the system, then rebuild America in a more socialist fashion. I don't have a way with words, but this shit is so obvious. He is trying to collapse our system and our government. What better way to then overload our current welfare system to the point its unsustainable. Drive national debt up, take over the insurance industry and collapse that, not supporting our allies, letting rogue nations do whatever they want in the world. Obama is a cancer to our way of life. What positive has he ever done for this country?
"We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." - Barack Obama, October 30, 2008
I mean seriously. Its not happening fast enough for him, so hes going to fucking fly illegal immigrants here on the taxpayer dime. The fuck?

You're fucking joking, right?
Do you need a roadmap?

Lets put this in perspective. Clinton, who was a Democrat, was a great fucking president. But that is because he actually believed in America, loved the country, and did everything in his power as president to make this a better country. Shit I would vote for him again if I could, and P.S. I did his second term. Obama.....he hates this country, thinks we have fucked everyone over and wants to tear it down and rebuild it. The "Obstructionist Congress" is the only fucking thing that has slowed him down.

So your just going to ignore the fact that illegal immigration was higher under Bush and actually went down under Obama and the fact that this crisis is because of conditions in central america all because herp derp Obama hates America?

You do realize that people that are refugees actually get their "welfare and support" from someone that isn't (mostly) the US, right? If they're officially refugee status, shelter and food are provided to them by the UN until they get established. So the entire "welfare crisis" is based off of nothing but a fabrication of your own fucking ignorance when it comes to refugees.

In fact this is a big part of why I was saying before the UN started considering official refugee status that I was on the fence about what the right thing is to do until they decided. (I've come around now though, I wasn't completely up to date on how violent those nations are right now - in my mind it's just a question of WHEN they approve refugee status, not IF - I was on the fence while it was an IF because I don't like the idea of supporting them)

And on that second stupid quote - you do understand context, right? That was 5 days before election day - he was saying that they were going to win and fix things up. In fact, I bet I can find nearly identical quotes from GWB, Clinton, etc in their "nearly time for the election" statements.

You're a completely farcical joke.

See, shit like that pisses me off. We only have one child - we don't want to overburden ourselves with children we can't provide for. We could like have another 2 np, but we're sticking with one. Merlin, who HATES the government and all those "damn leeches" has 8 fucking kids - so many that he has to accept WIC and god knows what other assistance. And the whole damn time it just never crosses his mind that HE is part of the problem he so hates.

Merlin, if stupidity was a crime, you'd have had a bullet between your eyes a long, long time ago.
