The major question to me is,
I am assuming we see Cross server battlegrounds, dungeons some raids Tech in similar way wow has the newest tech as well as some quest hubs, this way they can instance them as well as don't have to worry down the line about server merges and stuff.

Definitely in the boat that racial starting areas are great, even if a lot of dev time. You just have to link quests/content back to the starting area. Neriak remains one of my favorite combination of zones ever, because it presents everything that DEs are about in a visual package vs. an audio/text version. Lots of shit required that area via epics and otherwise, so you had a lot to work with. It also creates a centralization of "self" when playing a character. Rezz was a DE SK of Neriak, not a DE SK of Luclin or any other starting zone. Returning "home" felt good after adventuring for a while in increasingly eclectic climes.

Since we know EQN is using the Forgelight Engine, is it safe to assume the minimum system requirements are going to be similar to PS2? Or...is that not at all how the whole engine thing works?

Is that engine pretty much first person only? I struggle to see how gw2/tsw/Tera-like action combat would work in first person. Those dodge moves just would seem somewhat clunky to me.

That might be a good question for Flip... I expected first person.

It will be both.

I hope that if they jazz up some of the more boring classes (like Wiz) with spellweaving or spellmaking or whatever, I hope they do the same to all the classes. Don't want to see a high number of wizzies and nobody plays mage because it's too old school.

As much as I would love to see a first person only EQNext, realistically 3rd person is expected by most mmo players. Even TESO only begrudgingly added first person after the uproar of the diehard Elder Scrolls fans. They designed their game for 3rd person from the start.

My guess is EQN will be both but that first person will be gimped for most encounters because of the limited field of view. Just like most other mmos.

Has it been revealed when, on EQ1/EQ2 timeline, this world is supposed to exist? Or are we still in the dark on that kind of basic info? Much of those racial starting areas would have been destroyed in EQ2 and forward lore.

Nothing has officially been revealed yet. Until August 2nd gets here, most of what we know is just guesswork or people repeating things they've heard.

It's not on the timeline. It's a re-imagining of the world altogether. Think parallel universe.

They mentioned it in their first briefing with the bald guy, and the GFay and Freeport screenshots, but I can't imagine they would have scrapped the setting along with the mechanics. I assume it still holds true.

This is going to be an un-optimized piece of shit, isn't it? Sigh.

I've come to the conclusion I plan to roll the most solo-friendly utility class. Hoping that turns out not to be a pet class, but we'll see.

Solo friendly utility class=soloable somewhat+allows for easy grouping.

The engine itself doesn't dictate FP or 3rd. But Ps2 is a goodway to determine how the thing will work on your PC.

I'd give you a +1 for running eqnjunkies but sadly I can't. Also EQN is supposed to be solo-friendly (storybricks) but grouping-focused (dungeons).

as for sandbox/tether/leashing... there were old (gdc?) slides from, i think, one of the guys who did the storybrick in which he give factors for when they flee/follow. some of which being how far they are from base/how many they are against/how many of them/ etc.

there had better be a ffa pvp server, if not at release, then later.

Take 1 day off of following this thread tooth and nail and you get completely announcement-sniped.

Yes, it is true. eqn.junkiesnation.com has launched with me operating it. As Drae-guy said, if you have any interest in contributing in any way to, or questions regarding, the site, let me know. My goal is to provide top-notch articles and news while trying to re-ignite the sense of overall community within the game through the website (as much as one can).

I'll be providing things like player interviews, class guides, and the like along side some other cool stuff and the news. Again, if you have comments/concerns/suggestions/nitpicks/etc., shoot 'em my way.
