I never played one but even I respected those big bastards with their awesome run animation and cobbled together armor set. Speaking of animations, I don't know the history but I have to imagine the Luclin model animations were never properly complete. The swinging animations, sitting, walking, running;everythingseemed incomplete about them. Also they look like shit.

Before you go and claim I got all that stuff from the paintings, I spilled all this info to people long before it was ever revealed.
Oh I know it, not saying that at all. My intention was just to provide the references to back your claims.

Since we are just throwing out all this speculation... I did run into a source not long ago that is typically in the know and he did mention that it had made it to his circle that SoE was very much wanting a Nov/Dec release. We both agreed that this was far fetched but he did say they were further along than people were giving them credit but he did also mention that in his experience with certain companies, delays are inevitable. I have no idea what he knows but I find it interesting that I see this same story in regards to release dates and beta. I really can't believe that EQNext is approximately 5 months from being release ready. Maybe i'm jaded but, I just don't see it.

The real question is whether they will acknowledge the need to delay release into early or maybe even mid 2014, or rush to get this fucker out the door by the holiday season. I'm inclined to think the latter.

Yep the comments that the "world would be ever-changing, adaptable, modable and destructible" and reasons for putting player made BGS in instances could only come from inside the black-box.

This is your real leak gentlemen. Note that it doesn't dispute Flip's player-content is instance, but instead gives the reason why that is instanced and SOE content is not.

We can skip Friday. Open the champagne, EQN really is a sandbox.
Just sort of nitpicking, but the comments about "why" weren't anything special to me. Those reasons are all logical beyond a shadow of a doubt and I felt were very obvious.

Would be pretty amazing that the game had been in development and ready for testers next week without any more than a few pictures making it out the door. Makes you wonder just how long they'll hold on to a NDA. Playing so closely to the vest is really going to force people to want to share information as it reaches their eyes.

Eh. I've backtracked I think Soygen's right and he isn't SOE. If he was SOE would have talked combat mechanics.

I'll totally own up to it if this damn game launches in 2013. Like, two months ago I thought all you guys were batshit insane and now I'm getting all insecure. Even if it launches in the early part of next year, I'd have been way off. From a marketing standpoint, I just don't understand pulling a Sega Saturn. You don't need years and years of build up, but hitting SOE Live '13, E3 '14, then SOE Live '14 seems to make more sense. SOE Live is nice for the people actively following EQN and creating hundreds of pages on an MMO forum based on nothing, but nobody in the mainstream really cares about it. I wonder where and how they'd make such a last minute marketing blitz.

I believe they feel as if they have the attention of those who matter already. They understand the power of word of mouth right now. They have a large portion of the MMO community wondering. MMO's have never really made huge efforts in marketing. Outside of WoW, you never see MMO's using any major media outlets. If EQNext has a Facebook and Twitter, not to mention a few thousand beta testers buying into their game, it will carry. You have to think also, they got the major gaming and MMO sites attention at E3.

I don't think it makes sense either but I think it would wow a lot of people if they displayed a pretty well completed game this week. It will then be up to the quality after that... the more I think about it, I don't know if the quality will even matter so much. I think most people will get a box and try it a month regardless. Heck, what else is everyone else going to do?

Remember that PS2 released semi-incomplete by all accounts. SOE is not going to wait until everything is perfect.
I don't doubt that, but PS2 followed the pattern I mentioned if I recall right. There was that early trailer, then an E3, then a big presence at SOE Live. If they do this, it'll fly in the face of at least whatIconsider to be conventional videogame marketing. And not that the cross over is huge and many PC dudes are exclusive to the platform, but the entire industry is going to be buzzing about the new consoles this year. I don't know, the timing just seems way off and SOE would have cheated themselves out of a big E3 push for an event that's tiny by comparison.

Edit:

Maybe. Shit, I don't know. They better say something about launch on August 2.

Blizzard.

They're afraid of waiting too long and Blizzard releasing Titan/WoW2 with the same dynamic technology/Storybricks/wtf.

With the recent delay, and considering one Blizzard year is the equivalent to three in normal developer standards, we'll all be bickering about what brand is the best in adult diapers by the time Titan releases.

I'm an admitted ween when it comes to PvP in MMOs. My IRL can be chaos so when I finally get to chill in an MMO the idea of getting a dagger in my back while I'm trying to frolick along in Faydark or some shit sounds unappealing. I always figure if I'm going to compete, I'll play a traditionally competitive game. I don't know, maybe if there was some actual meaning and lasting impact it'd sound more appealing to me.

2016 isn't that far off - but then again there is NCSoft and everybody else. I think SOE thinks they're ahead of the curve and the best thing to do is release it before anybody else can release something similar - so all subsequent MMOs get termed EQN clones.

i'm really hoping this game delivers. the first EQ was my favorite game of all time, and after the abortion that was D3 last year, i've become a cynic. i'm hoping that i'm playing EQN with you guys for the next 4 or 5 years, and not 4 or 5 weeks...

PvP just adds another level of fun in a game. People that played blue eq1 seem to think red was the dregs, but in all honesty, I think that there was more respect given to a PvP foe then people realize. On blue eq1 you could trash talk and spawn steel and there was sweet F-all you could do about it. On red, there was plenty you could do about it. You had to watch who (or what guild) you were messing with.

Once you play red you don't go back.
