I like how they called Greater Faydark a "steaming jungle swap." That's that 1999 horsepower blended with thick layers of fog, lol.

Edit: I guess I always pronounced Vie wrong. It rhymes with bee, not buy.

Not sure if anyone is in the same boat as me... But I find this a little troubling... As of this year, I will be playing the exact same games I was playing 10 years ago.

Everquest (next)
TRIBES (ascend)
DOTA (2)

Not sure if that says more about me, or the state of the industry.

Edit: good god, I was also playing Starcraft...

While we're debating the important shit like pronunciation (koonarc, checking in), what's the call on Felwithe? I say Fell-weeth (soft th like in "the").

This shit isn't even being done in single player games, no way they'd do it in a mmo. Still the basics are important, day/night cycle, randomized weather, that kind of shit is pretty cool and has been done so it can be done again. The theme park mmo concept isn't just the mechanics design of doing quest hubs and localized monster areas and linear progression etc, it's also the feel of the zones. WoW zones are always the same. They each have a unique identity made by using color scheme like int he sky and most elements and shit like that, but if you go to ashenvale it's always the same ashenvale, there's never an ashenvale by day or ashenvale by night or ashenvale when it's raining and that makes it feel very artificial, especially when it's connected to the fucking barrens. Having day/night cycle and weather(not necessarily advanced weather but like, cloudy, rainy, snowy maybe) you can go to a zone and level there for a bit and suddenly night falls and it's like an entirely different zone. Then it starts raining and it's like "motherfucker I can't see shit". That peaceful plain area becomes an oppressive scary area just by adding a few modifications.

Wish more mmos did that shit. PS2 has day night cycle so it should be the same I hope, just wish they add weather stuff too.
Weather and seasons are two big players here. No MMO I remember had seasons and weather was mostly set in stone and noverchanging. WoW does have day/night cycles, although its actually real life time based so if you always played in the afternoon you'd never notice. That was ok in a way, EQ day and night switched a bit fast, I would say a middle ground of a whole day being 5-7 hours is best. And yea no MMO since EQ actually had darkness at night or stuff like racial vision.

That's because no MMO since EQ has been an actual fucking RPG. (Well, maybe vanguard too)

You don't get to call a game that just because it has elves in it IMHO.

Googling it yeah I see wow did have day/night, I didn't remember it though, guess night was just not very night-like, other than the sky being darker and a blue hue on everything.
