Haha, that was Rek (@rekMMO). I asked him to do it and apparently he obliged.Best part of the Q&A video was the guy that got up and said "I just want to say that Aradune is stinky."
Wait, what? Those games are fucking dead relics, you can't cannibalize them at this point. Put out a brand new game with similar mechanics, updated graphics, and world building and you obviously have a fuckton more players playing it than EQ1+2 combined. The market that exists for a hypothetical EQ3 is already playing EQ1/2. Why would they cannibalize those games? Not gonna happen.
pvp is in. Kos in. Some elements speculation such as number could be 3. Evelike is speculation but it is not ffa. People going to freak when announced. Is this speculation or based on someone you spoke to or something?
The market for a EQ3 is much larger than those two games. Their graphics are old and dated, and many people have already played those games. Most mmo players want to play games with new graphics options. The market that exists for a hypothetical EQ3 is already playing EQ1/2. Why would they cannibalize those games? Not gonna happen.
This. Let's face it. That market will be scattered throughout EMU's, random MMO's that last for a month, and games like LoL. There's nothing for us out there, well at least nothing tailored, and we just have to accept while our money is still money it just doesn't compare to the money to be made from the casual, cater to me masses. The market that exists for a hypothetical EQ3 is already playing EQ1/2. Why would they cannibalize those games? Not gonna happen.
Read this while looking at your avatar.Let's not give up guys. I'm as skeptical as the next guy just because of my previous dealings with Georgeson in EQII but, maybe there is enough of us to matter. Maybe they'll make a game that is more for us than we think. (Thought I would be a little more optimistic.)
if I win Powerball I'll make that game for you etat this point, my only hope for a good MMO is either the people that made dark souls decide to make dark souls the MMO, or the people that do EVE decide to give a high fantasy game a shot. aside from those two options, i don't see it happening.
Well I should also say that for all you people bitching at me for not liking what they presented - there are two people who secretly supported me with the rep thing. I also noticed a serious lack of enthusiasm during the presentation. And I would bet ANY amount of money, that there will be a LOT more pissed off people once it finally dawns on some of you slow coaches what the truth about this game really is.
And not just that, but I would bet that as with Rift, GW2, Warhammer, AoC, and pretty much every none WoW game I've played in the past 13 years.... a few months after release, those of you who right now would defend this game to your death, will be bored shitless of it and looking for something else.
You people are your own worst enemies. I can understand from stupid kids who are new to all this, but from MMO vets? Fucking shameful.
Anyone who is crying that EverQuest Next isn't EverQuest HD deserves to be disappointed.
Im done following, this game just died to me. GW2 is so gd boring and this so far is just another gw2 shitfest with a new coat of paint. Black Desert, come on dont suck.
They were very clear for atleast the past year that it wasn't going to be EverQuest HD. Anyone who is disappointed because it wasn't, really only has themselves to blame.
Pretty much this. The only reason they dont do it I guess is that EQ1/2 are actually still running and supported and making EQ1HD would probably collapse them. Anyway, I'm in favor of a EQ1HD project, no matter if its SOE or some fresh team on a kickstarter - but I would prefer SOE. Just as long as EQ1HD is the declared goal of a small team and if they run with their new open development processes I think that could work. Works for PS2, anyway. For example PS2 send "implants" back to the drawing board because of negative player feedback despite the fact that the presented incarnation would've been good revenue. That's very unlike the management approach they still use for EQ1/2/alltheirboughtIPs.With respect to @qwerty, @tiled and etc. I think SOE needs to make a true successor to EQ. Call it EQ3. EQNext is really LOL the MMO meets Minecraft. Which isn't a bad idea at all, and looks pretty fun. It will scratch the roleplaying itch but I don't know if it will scratch the AD&D itch. I suspect EQ1 will take less of a hit than EQ2 of players moving to EQN.
I think the actual EQN game is really just these concepts, they couldnt show more. But with the schedule of Landmark it was make a good impact now or dribble it out over a year, and I think they made the right choice. Tjheir innovation is gonna be better received in the rest of the gaming world where people dont cling to their decade old notions like us here and the kind of people that fly to vegas for the EQ fan faire.I agree Malakriss. They did not do a good job at all of showing their player base what exactly they are doing. There are too many unknowns, nebulous answers, and things that don't make much sense. They should have waited and done the reveal later when they are better prepared, with more solid information, and better videos to show. This seems half-assed and simply not ready to show. They should've just done a reveal video with some fly throughs and thats it. Just a tease. All these panels have not really cleared up things, instead they're making a lot of the player base confused; which of course is very easy to do.
Entirely agreed, I like the idea of having my character and being the culmination of what I did and discovered, instead of logging over to my crafting/tanking/battleground alt. I havent played FFXI but people often praise the multiclassing you had there, so its not completely new. GW1 multiclassing was also similar. Both devolved into "accepted builds" and "noob builds" of course, but that's a social issue you really cannot prevent.Multiclassing on a single toon is 1000x better than the alt-hopping routine.
Yea I kinda agree, they are turning it on it's head anyway so why do it. I wouldnt care if they changed all the EQ gameplay (and they seem to do that) but if they also rape the lore they might as went with a different background that didnt restrict them.I just wish they didn't use the Everquest IP to promote this title.
they scrapped the game they were making because it was just like WoW, not because it was like the original EQ. at least sound like you know what you're talking about...They were making EQ3 and scrapped it to make EQN because after the last batch of raid games failed they decided that wasn't the way forward.
Give it up guys, its not gonna happen. They dont want to make a game with such a small potential audience. I am sure that decision is just going to reinforce itself when FFXIV starts to falter 4ish months from now.
It will all hinge on how gear and resources work I think, if gear needs to be constantly replaced and territory control becomes important so you can control the resources needed for high end gear they will have a success, even if it is faction based and not FFA.pvp is in. Kos in. Some elements speculation such as number could be 3. Evelike is speculation but it is not ffa. People going to freak when announced.
You might find it funny but yea - If I want to play an assassin because I find it fun, I would appreciate that being ok. It was ok in EQ1 when I played that game. Depending on the year we are talking about or the relevant content, certain classes were entirely pointless, just needed as buff bots or a token 1 of them to loot the class items. We never kicked the extras because we didnt have to, it was ok if their mechanics werent as strong. Dropping people like hot potatoes wasnt as much of a thing when you didnt have raid caps.So if you were a max level under powered Assassin, you'd appreciate having NO other options at all, and shunned from every guild?
This argument is fucking comical.
Just to comment on GW2, it doesnt have multiclassing. That was GW1. I they had release GW2 as is (which is mediocre and rushed) but had a character abilitiy concept like GW1 it would have been MUCH better. If anything the lack of multiclassing and skill hunting shortens the time GW2 keeps the players engaged considerably.i'm not confusing anything. people "think" they like something, but then they realize they are wrong. see every fucking MMO that is currently out that isn't called warcraft.if this multi classing system is so awe inspiringly awesome, why is GW2 so fucking bad?if these epic events are so great, why does rift suck? if twitch based MMO's are the future, why isn't everyone playing TERA? why do you think that having an MMO orgy of all these shitty games will somehow make EQN good?
No major company is ever going to make a game as hardcore as EQ because there just aren't that many people who would play it. Slapping a new coat of paint on mechanics from 1999 isn't a winning idea.they scrapped the game they were making because it was just like WoW, not because it was like the original EQ. at least sound like you know what you're talking about...
