Just got home from seeing this. I gotta say, it was pretty damn cool.

The original T-Rex yell is much better than the new dinosaur's yell. I really dug the entire end fight scene thing.

In the end you are right. I left the theater feeling entertained and that is what should matter most. I'll spoiler some complaints because they're very nitpicky and ultimately don't matter...

I think the movie would have benefited greatly from some re-editing. There are things that just don't make any sense or are completely unnecessary. Like someone mentioned, the whole parents divorce thing, his girlfriend, him staring at chicks. It doesn't even really build character or make him more sympathetic of a kid. Then there are lines like, "Hey do you still have those matches?" Which make no sense unless they cut a scene where they first established he had matches. They rebuild / fix a 20+ year old Jeep because the little kid rebuilt some car? There was a throwaway line that tried to justify it... The timing of the jokes was also off in parts. Like after jumping down the waterfall after almost dying to a huge fucking terrifying dinosaur they're all, "tee hee we jumped! giggle" Or after the dude gets killed by the raptor in the back of the getaway van and Bryce Dallas Howard is all, "don't tell your parents about this! *wink*" There was also the point when it was night time suddenly... And when the kids drive that Jeep off and then Chris Pratt shows up with BDH. They kids drive the jeep "a distance" back to the main area, but Pratt and Howard just walk in to the next scene suddenly at the base... the compositing of the CGI and live action looked terrible in spots also.

Anyways, that is my rant. It was worth the price of admission and glad to have seen it.
Agree with your criticisms. I really really enjoyed the movie. Excellent! Couldn't care less about the kids back story etc

Btw, anyone else notice the sisters in this were also sisters in The Village?

Saw this with my nephews. Holy fuck was this awful. There are some god damn simpletons on these boards. Wasn't even remotely as good as the original, was total cheese, and was about as suspenseful as watching Dora the Explorer. What the fuck movie did you all watch that you thought this was in any way a good movie?

People did not go into this expecting Citizen Kane or 2001. They went in expecting dinosaurs smashing stuff and an attempt at recapturing the magic of the first film.

I thoroughly enjoyed the dinosaurs smashing stuff. It spoke well to my inner child. I enjoyed the destructive rampage of the dinosaurs almost as much as I enjoyed Hulk spouting 'Puny God'.

It was not as good as the first, but that was also a unique movie based off of an amazing book, with one of the greatest directors of our age combining proven old techniques with then 'cutting edge' technology.

It managed to capture some of the magic and if you are an 8-12 year old child, seeing this movie will probably be one of the memories that sticks with you for a huge chunk of your life, just as seeing the first film has found a spot in the hearts and minds of the generation that saw it. The film is not perfect. It certainly had several flaws. Some spots of poor acting. Some spots of less-than-perfect CGI integration. But it was enough to give me that feeling of awe and wonder that the first film did twenty-two years ago.

There was some goofy shit in here, but I generally liked it.

that said, when they ended on that shot of the t-rex surveying the island, was I the only one halfway expecting the raptor to show up at its side, like they were a crime-fighting duo, or some shit? Seemed about right considering the tone of the final action sequence.

Personally, my only sort of beef with the movie wondering what the fuck Dr Wu was thinking when he created the Drex. I mean the mix and match snake and frog DNA and shit, whatever, that's straight out of the original book and movie. But you mixed in RAPTOR dna into the fucking Drex? WTF? I mean he has to have seen reports from Muldoon saying the Raptors were problem solving intelligent, as well as read about what happened on Nublar when the Raptors got out. He probably read about the trouble they had with Raptors on Isla Sorna in the second movie, and hell maybe Dr Grant wrote a book about his experience with the raptors in the third movie.

So why the fuck would you create a bigger T-rex with functional arms and a raptor brain? Even assuming the camo and the thermal masking were just accidents, it's like he was intentionally trying to create an unstoppable monster.

I thought he was working for Vince D'onofrio to build a war dinosaur? My understanding was he was working for him and engineered the dinosaur to be an effective killing machine. And Vince was having Pratt train raptors to see if it's possible, and because the new dinosaur is part a raptor could be trainable? Or did I just read too much into it?

Also they kept making the point that you need a new dinosaur at the park to bring in customers, it paralleled the movie because you had to create new dinosaurs to make new movies.

It starts very well when no one waits to pinpoint the mega super dino BEFORE going to her "playground".
LOL people in this movie are dumb, now i understand why everything went to shit.

And what about the plot of weaponizing some "animal", "monster", etc...?WOW!!! Never seen before!
The CinemaSins guy was right, in this movie there was going to be someone trying to take something out of the island, this time were "domesticated" raptors lol

So my friend is about to drag me to this. Im not sold on it since the CGI in the trailers ive seen looks imho worse than the what ive seen in the first one, and thats almost 25 years old. Dunno what they were thinking, as they clearly try to target the core audience form the first flick with this one.
Will i enjoy it when i have low expectations and know this wont top the first installment or Fury Road at all?

I really don't know what to tell you on that. Seems a lot of the board is split on whether they liked it or not. It's been a while since I saw the first one, but this one just did not do it for me in comparison. I thought the script was shit, the actors outside of Pratt were shit, and it's only redeeming factor for me was the ending. I was really excited to go see this and left disappointed and there's pretty much no way I'd watch it again. To each their own I guess.

It's not as good as the first, but it's better than any of the sequels. It has a lot of call-backs to the first, so if you want some nostalgia, it delivers. I enjoyed it and my girlfriend had the biggest smile on her face the entire time because she loves Jurassic Park.

Key to enjoying any movie like this is to go in with low expectations and be happy when the movie exceeds them.

Exactly. I went in with pretty low expectations. Wasn't disappointed at all. Not an embarrassing sequel at all.

I went in with decent expectations. I read many people's reaction that saw it Friday and everyone said it was good. I think they key is to not pick it apart too much and just enjoy it for what it is: purely a string of action sequences involving dinosaurs. I also thought they did a very good job of creating the fiction of the park and as a really cool place that seemed both awesome and somewhat realistic. Some people complained about the product placement but I feel the Margaritaville and Ben and Jerry's shop just drove the point home that this was somewhat realistic and gave you the feeling it could happen.

I was really happy when the raptor ate the War Monger guy's hand.

Did you notice that they didn't talk at all about the retractable cat claw that could disembowel you?
I remember that being a big part of the 1st one.

The thing I thought was the most ridiculous, in the moment, was how long the ginger girl waited before she started running from the fucking T-rex after opening the gate. Remember that thing chasing down a Jeep? ... But somehow she managed to stay ahead of it while wearing heels.

Dude after 7 seasons of Castle I no longer consider heels to be any sort of impediment to a woman's movement.

My response to something like that (not just you, anyone I know that asks that question) is to say don't go. You're already pre-disposed not to like it, so you probably won't. I'm not saying you can't like it or be surprised by it, but chances are you won't be and you'll just be annoyed with whomever told you to go.

I pirated this. Was oK, once again a stupid kid related subplot ruins an otherwise decent movie. Also kinda tired of the evil military general trope who is going to use power for evil thing. Its so overused. Glad I didnt pay for admission.
