Agree with your criticisms. I really really enjoyed the movie. Excellent! Couldn't care less about the kids back story etcIn the end you are right. I left the theater feeling entertained and that is what should matter most. I'll spoiler some complaints because they're very nitpicky and ultimately don't matter...
I think the movie would have benefited greatly from some re-editing. There are things that just don't make any sense or are completely unnecessary. Like someone mentioned, the whole parents divorce thing, his girlfriend, him staring at chicks. It doesn't even really build character or make him more sympathetic of a kid. Then there are lines like, "Hey do you still have those matches?" Which make no sense unless they cut a scene where they first established he had matches. They rebuild / fix a 20+ year old Jeep because the little kid rebuilt some car? There was a throwaway line that tried to justify it... The timing of the jokes was also off in parts. Like after jumping down the waterfall after almost dying to a huge fucking terrifying dinosaur they're all, "tee hee we jumped! giggle" Or after the dude gets killed by the raptor in the back of the getaway van and Bryce Dallas Howard is all, "don't tell your parents about this! *wink*" There was also the point when it was night time suddenly... And when the kids drive that Jeep off and then Chris Pratt shows up with BDH. They kids drive the jeep "a distance" back to the main area, but Pratt and Howard just walk in to the next scene suddenly at the base... the compositing of the CGI and live action looked terrible in spots also.
Anyways, that is my rant. It was worth the price of admission and glad to have seen it.
People did not go into this expecting Citizen Kane or 2001. They went in expecting dinosaurs smashing stuff and an attempt at recapturing the magic of the first film.Saw this with my nephews. Holy fuck was this awful. There are some god damn simpletons on these boards. Wasn't even remotely as good as the original, was total cheese, and was about as suspenseful as watching Dora the Explorer. What the fuck movie did you all watch that you thought this was in any way a good movie?
I thought he was working for Vince D'onofrio to build a war dinosaur? My understanding was he was working for him and engineered the dinosaur to be an effective killing machine. And Vince was having Pratt train raptors to see if it's possible, and because the new dinosaur is part a raptor could be trainable? Or did I just read too much into it?Personally, my only sort of beef with the movie wondering what the fuck Dr Wu was thinking when he created the Drex. I mean the mix and match snake and frog DNA and shit, whatever, that's straight out of the original book and movie. But you mixed in RAPTOR dna into the fucking Drex? WTF? I mean he has to have seen reports from Muldoon saying the Raptors were problem solving intelligent, as well as read about what happened on Nublar when the Raptors got out. He probably read about the trouble they had with Raptors on Isla Sorna in the second movie, and hell maybe Dr Grant wrote a book about his experience with the raptors in the third movie.
So why the fuck would you create a bigger T-rex with functional arms and a raptor brain? Even assuming the camo and the thermal masking were just accidents, it's like he was intentionally trying to create an unstoppable monster.
It starts very well when no one waits to pinpoint the mega super dino BEFORE going to her "playground".Saw this with my nephews. Holy fuck was this awful. I really don't know what to tell you on that. Seems a lot of the board is split on whether they liked it or not. It's been a while since I saw the first one, but this one just did not do it for me in comparison. I thought the script was shit, the actors outside of Pratt were shit, and it's only redeeming factor for me was the ending. I was really excited to go see this and left disappointed and there's pretty much no way I'd watch it again. To each their own I guess. Will i enjoy it when i have low expectations and know this wont top the first installment or Fury Road at all?
Exactly. I went in with pretty low expectations. Wasn't disappointed at all. Not an embarrassing sequel at all.Key to enjoying any movie like this is to go in with low expectations and be happy when the movie exceeds them.
My response to something like that (not just you, anyone I know that asks that question) is to say don't go. You're already pre-disposed not to like it, so you probably won't. I'm not saying you can't like it or be surprised by it, but chances are you won't be and you'll just be annoyed with whomever told you to go.So my friend is about to drag me to this. Im not sold on it since the CGI in the trailers ive seen looks imho worse than the what ive seen in the first one, and thats almost 25 years old. Dunno what they were thinking, as they clearly try to target the core audience form the first flick with this one.
