I hear what you are saying, but it's totally, completely, 100% out of the blue.
Imagine your mom, boss, whatever, calls you and says "Hey, I'm not going to go into why, but don't come to the house anymore, you didn't do anything, but thats the way it has to be, goodbye."
I'm just confused, like it makes 0 sense to me. I would love if I could say "Ohh this thing and that thing" and had ANY sort of idea.
And while I said I didn't know what to say, I did talk to her some, basically just saying I simply don't understand at all. She replied with
"I'm not ready to give my life up. That seems like a good fit for how I'm feeling. My life has changed a lot since I met you and I like my life. I don't want it to change... That's obviously my problem. I don't know why I am so persistent on that. I'm not ready to give myself to someone else. I started to and tried and liked it, but then I realized I'm not ready. We moved too fast."
I said "Yeah, it's okay, I don't get it, but I appreciate you trying to explain. Don't worry about it."
She said "I'm sorry for hurting you. I didn't see this coming."
So yeah, I mean, its like what you are all saying, I should stop driving myself crazy about it, it's probably the smoothest breakup I could ask for. And the other plus is now I don't need to worry about things going in my butt. Maybe I should be thankful?

Because unless there was a specific incident that precipitated the break-up, it's a an exercise in futility. You date a girl five times, and after the fifth date you felt all was going well but you get the same line Onoes got. Who the fuck can say what the real reason is? StarCraft is a game founded on logic and rules, unlike the human mind. You can't replay the early phase of a relationship like a game of StarCraft, because her rationale or reason for breaking up with you can potentially be something you can't even guess.
I agree with when it comes to long term relationships, which usually have a long standing history of problems to analyze, but the "newfound" relationship? You'll drive yourself crazy.

They were separated and he killed himself. I don't think she is really upset over that. She had a 2 year relationship after that, which ended in February of this year. In August she took a two week trip to Colorado to stay with her Ex and see if they could make it work, apparently they had both been talking about it. It didn't work out and they both remembered why they split up and she came back. Then, she met me in October.
But yeah, for all I know her old boyfriend called her, they talked for hours and I'm gone. I also met her sister the other day and she seemed like a huge bitch, so maybe her sister ruined it for me. Who knows. Back to the terrible fucking hunt for non insane girls I guess.

I kind of agree with Wombat and you more or less hit on the issue here. Onoes has a well established history of hanging with immature women or outright borderline too young girls. Plus he is not someone who pulls in the stable and mature women, given his mentality and haircut (not a slam on him). In my experience, personal and otherwise, when a girl dumps you trying to find out why is a waste of time because they are usually rationalizing it to themselves to justify their decision and don't even have a clear picture for themselves. I am of course talking about when you have not done anything obvious like fucking around on her or calling her mom a cunt.
This is my guess both for this fling and your marriage, actually. To me the texting after the fact tells me that Dude number 2 is not a lock yet and she is trying to keep you parked on the back burner until he is.
