The 4090 being so next-gen for the 4 series was a huge boon. People at the time criticized NVidia for making the 4090 next-gen, saying it'd make the next-gen difficult to sell.

It's exactly because of that reason the CEO had to lie on stage to the world regarding the new 5 series cards.

NVidia shot themselves in the foot with the 4090.

I bet they laugh all the way to the bank.

At $549 im interested. Would upgrade from a 2070S. But I'm definitely waiting until summer when all the bullshit calms down, people's rigs catching on fire calms down, and tech Jesus reviews them

Same boat. Will upgrade from a 3700x to a 5700x3d and from a 2070 Super to a 5070ti.

The 5070 ti seems like the best 'value' on the chart.

saw 5090s at CES, they are fucking huge. Talked to the gigabyte rep and he said they haven't officially announced prices but it'll be slightly higher than FE prices likely. He didn't have a clue about the tariff stuff, everyone seems kinda just hoping tariffs just don't kick in which is weird

Most of the Nvidia GPU stuff was focused on AI though, so many booths of racks and racks of Blackwell GPUs optimized for AI processing. I wonder when an autist will take one of those massive racks and turn it into something for porn and/or gaming

well there was this horrific skynet preview

I'm waiting for actual reviews but yeah thinking of upgrading to a 5070ti or 5080 or so. The 5090 can go suck a golden cock though.

From what folks have said before, it's not like I should expect 4 series to really drop much? Never been blown away by my 3080 though it was needed, honestly this build I've had always has seemed to have had a few quirks and random sporadic issues.

I don't *need* a new card, but I wonder how smart at all it would be once the 5 series fully released to still shop for a 4090 if it still does better than say a 5080? Kinda like when 3 series had been out many were still jumping on 1080ti's in a pinch. I don't know if the 4090 would use far more power though or kinda any of those breakpoints, I research a bit like every 3-4 years then forget it all in between.

You could use camelcamelcamel to see what the price of a couple cards were on amazon over release time frames. I'll probably do that actually, my 1070 is getting pretty long in the tooth. CPU too.

I will probably build a 9800X3D/5080 machine this year and give my current machine (7900xtx/7700x) machine to my kids. How else are they going to play Roblox at 480,000 FPS? Oh wait, sarcasm was last post.

Edit: I mean I will let MicroCenter build me a machine, because I don't enjoy building them as much as I used.

Hogwarts Legacy and Indy iirc were pushing around 13g of VRAM on 4K and I’d take Nvidias claim that they optimized the way VRAM is utilized with AI with a grain of salt right now. With the exception of the 5090, 5070 TI+ are using 16g and the 5070 and below are DOA at 12.

Just something to keep in mind for potential issues long term if you’re at 4k or thinking of going 4k sometime in the future.

LOL, I had so many computer parts in the basement my kids built 2 computers for media machines out of all the parts for their dumb TVs at the time. They built a 3rd but it never booted.

No change from last year. Lowest price is $1950. Original retail was $1999.

I could make a fat $1,500 selling mine (if even 1% of what Jensen said was true, that would be an option to get a 5 series. But we live in the real world here)

Several thousand for an opened box.

The question is: which 50 series card will match 4090 rendering performance?

MicroCenter knows their way around a rig.

Microcenter knows how to upsell the fuck out of PC's and parts. Fighting them off , and telling them what I wanted, not what they thought I needed. I also had to fix the build they did for me a few years ago.
